Diving Into Darkness
Released: 2000, Nuclear Blast
Previous Darkseed albums (that I have listened to), sound totally different than this. In fact, the older albums have a more gothic feel to them than anything else. I really can't compare Darkseed to any other band that I've heard because they have a very unique sound. The elements themselves aren't unique persay, but the conglomeration of the elements is what makes them unique.
Darkseed writes very catchy songs with crunchy riffs. Chances are the guitar work isn't very technical or hard, but the songs and choruses are just plain addictive. The band's vocalist, Stefan Hertrich, is what really makes these guys stand out.
Stefan seems to use three different vocal styles. The first, being a gutteral growl . The second, a "regular" style. And lastly, a depressed style of singing. All of these combine to create a really dark picture on every song.
This album, once put into my cd player, becomes very difficult for me to change because it's so damn good. In fact, many non-metal friends seem to like this album. That isn't to make it sound like Darkseed is a mainstream type band, because thats far from the truth. These guys just happen to write extremely catchy songs that don't seem to get old.
Hopefully Darkseed will keep this style of sound, shedding their previous gothic style. I look forward to hearing a lot more from this band very soon.
