Darkest Era
Gods and Origins
December 2015
Released: 2015, Cruz Del Sur Music
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

With two full albums under their belt Darkest Era have very recently released a two track EP entitled ‘Gods and Origins’. At first glance this would appear to be an odd move, though for them this represents a snapshot of the 10 years since the band first began. The tracks themselves in there variance back this up as they are two very different songs, at that and I have to say that is really the only down side to this EP; there are only two songs.

An Dagda has a wonderful galloping rhythm and guitar melody keeping up the pace throughout, and the unexpected power metal style scream introducing the vocals just made me smile and it continues from start to finish. There's old style feel to this song and the slightly unpolished edge to the sound only adds to its feeling of nostalgia.  Elohim couldn't be more different to the first; a complete removal from any electric sound with acoustic guitars and simple vocals. This song evokes images of bonfires and tales of ages being told, being simultaneously gentle and calming as well as curious.

Though only two songs, it is enough to draw me towards investigating their previous releases as now I'm intrigued.
