When you think of New York death metal, brutal old school bands like Suffocation, Immolation, Mortician, Cannibal Corpse, and Baphomet come to mind. Add Darkapathy to that list my friends! Hailing from Buffalo, NY, Darkapathy continue the rich NY tradition of brutal death metal! Darkapathy play a death / doom mix which is akin to drowning in sea of lead!

To set the proper mood, the album kicks off with some ominous winds and faint screaming in the background as the guitars slowly grind. This launches into “Apocalycryptic” with its killer CHUN CHUN CHUN CHUN CHUN CHUN CHUN CHUN riffing! Death metal veteran Dennis Glinski, the original singer of underground legends Tirant Sin, provides the guttural goods here, deep and savage but understandable at the same time. Nate Gatti’s guitar tone is awesome, ponderously heavy and grinding, like a slowed down Mortician or Disma. The whole album is great, no filler, my favorite tracks are “Apocalycryptic”, “Flesh Coated Armor” (very cool samples from movie battle scenes), and “Abyss of Black Filth”. Most of the songs are slow to mid paced, the only faster song is “Time is Now to Slaughter”.

Do you like your metal slow, doomy, scary, and brutal? If yes, pick up a copy of this right away! Highly recommended by a jaded old school guy like me!
