After wading through a press release that was a) a waste of time and b) a pile of pretentious garbage, it comes as no surprise that Darkside of Innocence’s latest album ‘Xenogenesis’ is both a) a waste of time and b) a pile of pretentious garbage.



What we have is sub-par symphonic parts, laid over sub-par progressive black metal, it’s slightly confusing, like when you’re listening to something, I don’t know like Slayer, but you forgot that you had youtube running in the background, so you’re confused when Tom Araya is having a vocal battle with Sponge Bob Square pants. Things just don’t seem to fit together on this record, there’s never a break from the symphonic elements and it’s hard to see how you get from one bit to the next.



There is a clear effort to try and be different, but when you get confused behind chaotic and utter rubbish then there’s not a lot that can be done to help.



This album was coasting for a zero score, but seeing as it didn’t cause any natural disasters (as far as we can tell) then it gets a 0.5.
