Carnifex
Until I Feel Nothing
February 2012
Released: 2011, Victory Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team

San Diego, California based band Carnifex have been pretty busy the last few years with this being their fourth album release in the last five years. They have also played over 200 gig dates and have toured non-stop over the last several years so it’s no surprise they have fast gained a strong fan base.

Despite the mixed views and opinions of this album, I have to say I did enjoy it. Despite some of the tracks being cliché and slightly predictable and repetitive, it’s still produced really well by Producer Tim Lambesis (Front man of As I Lay Dying). The album has elements of extreme death metal with some black metal vocals thrown in there, (not enough in my opinion) as well as fast-paced trash metal guitar work and riffs, also having some great melodies and impressive drumming with fierce blast beats and Scott Lewis vocals providing vocal versatility and aggression throughout the album.

This really is quite an intense and fast paced album but does have the word ‘core’ stamped on it, and that is one sub-genre I really don’t enjoy, I like my Death Metal without side of core to be honest. The album is also only half an hour long with the songs being short and not-so-sweet, but this is one album which I’m sure most brutal death metal fans will enjoy, if they love their blast beats and breakdowns.

Personally, I didn’t feel the album was that outstanding, but it's still worth a listen.
