Corrupt Leaders
March 2015
Released: 2015, Moshpit Tragedy
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Aaron Yurkiewicz

I need a Corrupt Leaders full length, like, yesterday.

Following up their excellent split w/ Dogma last fall, these Canadian grind upstarts are back with a new 5”, GRINDMOTHER. Razing the musical landscape with 4 tracks in 3 minutes, there’s not a lot to say about GRINDMOTHER other than 1) it’s some truly exceptional old school grindcore, and 2) the world needs more of it. Think Black Breath on amphetamines while covering Doom. Oh yeah, that eardrum throttling roar at the beginning of “Black Cloud”? That’s vocalist Rain Forest’s 66-year-old mother. Who says that metal can’t be family friendly?

Despite the frenzied approach to GRINDMOTHER, tracks like “Mass Consumed” and “Beaten Path” (my personal fav) show moments of greatness that I’d love to see fully realized on a proper LP. That being what it is, GRINDMOTHER is a great diversion for fans of the genre. Head to the Corrupt Leaders Bandcamp page where you can pick up GRINDMOTHER as a name your price digital download (quality grind like this is worth throwing a few shekels towards, though), as well as peruse their back catalog.
