The Return of...Svensk Dodsmetall (Book Review)
Released: 2010, Edizoni del Noce
If you are reading this review, (If you haven’t already) I strongly suggest you go and read my review of ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SEVENSK DODSMETALL first. My review of it first appeared in April of 2016.
As the title implies THE RETURN OF SVENSK DODSMETALL is part two and was published in 2010. The author, Constantini reissued the book but reformatted it and added lots of new material, up to 50% according to his estimation.
Much like the debut the format is virtually identical except that the type-set is much smaller. The book has been expanded to 272 pages from the original 216. It seems like the author had more help with translation, grammar and spelling as this book fixes many of the little issues of the first version. This time he writes more history of Sweden and the development of the scene providing a broader perspective. The format is the same, lots of interviews, and even though the fanzine style is the same, it looks more professional. He covers hundreds of bands from that most prolific of times with a depth and enthusiasm like no other. Some of the interviews and bits of info he unearths are a real treat for any fan of that era.
There is enough changes, new info and improvement to warrant buying both version but unfortunately the debut is sold out, so you may have to go to the secondary market if you want the original pressing. If you don't want to track down that rare out of print version you can still get this version and enjoy your own dark recollections.
