Corrosion of Conformity
Released: 2001, Sanctuary Records
Stripped down and raw is the way a live album should be, and COC don't disappoint on Live Volume. Recorded at Harpo's Concert theatre April 20, 2001, this disc offers over 75 minutes of live COC, as they are. Not only is this COC's first live release, but it's their first release with new drummer Jimmie Bower's, formerly of Down and Eyehategod. These 15 tracks are comprised from the band's last four CDss with five tracks coming from last years AMERICAN VOLUME DEALER and only two tracks from BLIND (one of those being an instrumental/intro). "King of The Rotten", "Whose Got The Fire", "Clean My Wounds" - COC plow through these like the well-oiled touring machine that they are. Any faults??? Well, some COC fans have complained that AMERICAN VOLUME DEALER was too polished and unfortunately that shows at times, particularly "Congradulations Song" just sounding flat and empty. Some of the drum tempo's are a little sluggish compared to the studio versions ("Wiseblood" in particular), but these things are what make a live CD "live." All in all, a great effort from one of the hardest working bands on the raod today. Expect a DVD/video release later this month.
