Construcdead
Wounded (EP)
December 2005
Released: 2005, Black Lodge Records/Sound Pollution
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Construcdead formed during 2000 in Stockholm, Sweden by the guitar players Christian, Richard and the drummer Erik. After going trough a few lead vocalists they decided for Jonas and to handle the bass they chose Joakim (ex-Face Down). The members have played metal for several years and Erik has a side project with people from Soilwork and Darkane called Terror 2000.

Just a few months after the kick off, the guys had a row of songs and headed out to do some festival gigs. Their debut was called REPENT and brought them all the way to Japan as support for Soilwork. Jonas left the band during 2002 and the search for a new screaming/growling vocalist began. At the end of the year, Peter Tuthill (Dog Faced Gods) joined the band and the line up was completed. The new line up started to record demo songs in order to land a new deal with a new label. The guys chose to sign to Black Lodge Records and work on the new album began in May 2003 when the band entered the Queenstreet Studio with Richard Larsson and Peter Wichers (Soilwork) in the producers seat, the outcome was the album VIOLDEAD.

The next member in line to leave the band was Joakim who left during the summer 2004. He wanted to focus more on his wife and newborn kid as well as on his old band Face Down. After a few weeks and a few rehearsals was Johan Magnusson (ex- Carnal Forge) set to take Joakim’s place. The next studio to enter was Clawfinger’s and Meshuggah’s Fear and Loathing in Stockholm and the purpose was to record a 4 track EP, which is the one this review is all about.

I thought the album was all about melodic death/thrash metal and there has been no change of course on the EP. Construcdead have musical similarities with more familiar acts like Soilwork. The only difference between the EP and the album is that the EP sounds more aggressive, angrier, and harder. The songs from the album are more melodic death/thrash with a lot of calmer parts. The EP contains one song from the studio album and the melodic thrash song called “Wounded”. As well, there are 3 new tracks. There’s also a video to “Wounded” provided as a bonus. One thing that strikes you when you listen to the other three tracks is that they are clearly more aggressive, harder, more brutal and angrier compared to the first track.

Peter shows that he can vary his voice endlessly and the other members are all extremely skilled musicians. The production is really heavy with thick layers of blistering guitar play and heavy hitting drum parts. This EP is an excellent sneak preview of the new album. The album is going to be called THE GRAND MACHINERY but shortly after the guys entered the studio both Peter and Johan left the band for some reason, why I don’t know, the search for new members began again.

Killer tracks “Wounded” and “Human Harvest”.
