Cloak Of Altering
The Night Comes Illuminated With Death
October 2012
Released: 2011, Human Jigsaw
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: UK Team

This new solo project from Mories, a man who has virtually kept the Dutch underground extreme scene alive over the last decade or so, is as dark and mysterious as the man himself.

Dark, brooding and nihilistic in its overall feel, it suffers from the problem of sounding antiseptic and sterilized, with the unsympathetic production doing absolutely no favours to the apocalyptic soundtrack which the artist endeavours to deliver to the best of his ability.

The songs themselves are all solid BM material – if not proffering anything original to a genre in danger of dying on its feet, they are nevertheless well performed if derivative – and Mories’ musicianship is effective, despite some vocals which wander into the “here be somewhere ye don’t want to go” part of the musical map…
