Clusterhead
Times Of No Trust
August 2008
Released: 2008, Music Buy Mail/Artist Workxx
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

This is the debut album from the German act Clusterhead. The band was born in 2005 and has released an EP that received great response from both fans and press. For once there’s no problem describing what kind of music this band plays. Normally I have a tendency to not agree with the bio but for once we can agree on that Clusterhead plays classic melodic metal. The music has a European flair.

The music is quite radio friendly and easy listening. It is fairly heavy but yet melodic and they haven’t used keyboards at all. Scorpions, Pink Cream 69, Jaded Heart and Bonfire are bands that Clusterhead have musical similarities with and it feels quite fresh to hear that Clusterhead have not been influenced by any newer kind of trends. Instead, they have stuck to playing the same great music as the bands mentioned above.

These four guys from Regensburg Germany really deliver some solid melodic metal music that’s fun to listen to and it’s really joyful to listen to singer Brandt’s amazing vocals. He’s really an asset to the band and he sings in English and not in a strange kind of German/English that’s so common amongst German acts. The rest of the band is as brilliant as the singer and the rhythm section is a heavy and solid platform that allows the guitarist to fire off some mind-blowing guitar riffs.

TIMES OF NO TRUST is a great debut album and my favorite songs are the melodic metal magical pieces “Tears I’ve Cried”, “Times Of No Trust”, “Poisoned” and “Deep In The Night”. The ballad “Ghosts” and the up-tempo song “Hole In My Heart” feel solid as well and I can admit that even though these songs are ballads I do like them. The only problem I have with the material is the lyrics that are, again, about love. The production is genuine and done with feeling.

Even though the cover artwork doesn’t do the band and album justice don’t be afraid to listen to the disc. You won’t regret it. If you look away from those minor problems you will find a great album that longs to be listened to. TIMES OF NO TRUST is a really strong debut album.
