C.R.O.W.N
Psychurgy
March 2013
Released: 2013, Candlelight Records Rating: 4.5/5 Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team Hailing from France, C R O W N consists only of two members and a machine, who tune their neutron guitars to the Richter scale, delivering their own unique sounds. Starting off with deep, dark and slightly horrific sound, this album got my attention immediately. With ‘experimental metal’ you never really know what to expect but this is one album that stands out individually and their sound is most definitely unique. There are slight influences from bands such as Isis, Godflesh and I could hear early sounds of Killing Joke. This is a deep and atmospheric album and a great start for the bands debut album, consisting of slow tempo’s and different metal genres, but still holds the heaviness which is needed in the metal world, with each track having their own melodic tendencies, you’d never know they were not a full band. Throughout the album there is a darkness flowing throughout with a mixture of sludge doom, drone, electro, psyche and progressive music, all blended in perfectly. There is also great variation in the vocal range too, keeping me alert throughout each track and wondering what was coming next. It’s fair to say, not every metaller will get this album. It’s not of a normal structure, nor do the band care for rules and are clearly following their own path, but this is one album that I got immediately and I couldn’t wait to hear it again. As the band states; Welcome to the dark, spiralling, and obscure experiments of C R O W N! They’re not wrong! These guys will be performing at the Roadburn Festival next month [April 2013] Check these guys out… Review by Jo Blackened ![]()
