Caught in the Between
Horse Metal
October 2010
Released: 2010, Self-released
Rating: 0.5/5
Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen

"O´ my ol´ cow´s sweet ´n´ warm balls…, now what the heck is ´Horse Metal´? First of all, I have to admit that I tend to like all this musical terminology a little bit when you have a meaningful idea behind your purpose to call something as e.g. ´Reindeer Metal,´ or ´Pagan-ized Xrstian Metal,´ or ´Pussycore´ – or just whatever-Metal-or-core, but then again… ´Horse Metal??!!´

Well, I remember this Texas-based humor Thrash/Death troop Dead Horse calling their stuff as ´Horsecore´ – and even understood well the humor (partly at least) behind the concept of their own stuff. But Finland´s Caught In The Between seems to be a tougher nut to crack conceptually – much harder and tougher to be more precise, I think. Whatever signals they want to send out with their ´Horse Sh… (er!) Metal´, I don´t hesitate a second to say I don´t like them. In fact, they do suck - and especially their drummer who has obviously chosen a wrong instrument to begin with.

Musically they represent a terrible mishmash of – roughly said, several both Metal and non-Metal styles. It´s actually really hard to pinpoint what kind of message they want to send out to people by their ´Horse (Shit) Metal´, but I already am positive to say that approx. 99,9% out of us will not get it anyway – and that insignificant 00,1% minority who may get it, must be clueless about any good Metal in a real life.

I don´t feel any sorry, or guilty to spit it out but Caught In The Between´s ´Horse Metal´ could well be nicknamed as ´Going-Straight-Down-The-Toilet-Pipe Metal´. This is just a worthless shit, and I need some pills for my headache now that spinning this sewer blockage caused me. Uh, next please…"
