Chainsnap
Hollow
April 2004
Released: 2004, Independent Rating: 2.0/5 Reviewer: Lord of the Wasteland Chainsnap is a new band from Wisconsin. They have been together since September 2002 and have a 3-song demo that was independently released in Spring 2003. HOLLOW is their first full-length CD and was released in January 2004. Chainsnap steals heavily from the meathead metalcore playbook. The roaring/whispered vocals leave a lot to be desired. The rest of the band seems competent enough, but Steve Schiller’s voice is positively grating after awhile. “Spiral” is a solid opener but things begin to fall apart soon after. “Death By Deception” has a nice groove to it and there is a doomy sludge guitar used on “Wanted Soul” that really stands out. Otherwise, these songs are rather unexceptional. I hate to give any band a bad review, especially a new band just starting out, but if there is a positive spin I can put on my rating, they have nowhere to go but up. I hope they do, too. Good luck, guys!! KILLER KUTS: “Spiral,” “Death By Deception,” “Wanted Soul” ![]()
