Belladonna
THE NOIR ALBUM
January 2009
Released: 2009, Belladonna Records Rating: 0.1/5 Reviewer: Stu Occupier Here we have an Italian band who have made quite a headway in the USA with high profile support slots to the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Korn. Their 2006 self-produced debut “Metaphysical Attraction” became an instant hit and gained them the honour of 2 Grammy Awards 2008 ballot nominations, an unprecedented event for a DIY band. This is their major debut and it was produced by Sylvia Massy famed for working with System Of A Down. "Pyromantic, mysterotique, visionoir" are the words Luana coins to describe it and, paraphrasing the smashing album opener "Alchemical Romance", she adds: "One day we stopped fighting our inner demons, and went on their side. And this Music just poured out." This is incredibly average pop goth, to be honest I should have realized what it would be like from the My Chemical Romance font on the back cover, this makes HIM sound like Napalm Death. Okay lets try and be positive here, the song "Till Death Do Us Part" is quite good but that's because it reminds me of an Audioslave song. Yes its well produced and you can hear that a lot of work has gone into it, but its mind numbing aural wallpaper. ![]()
