In My Corner
March 2008
Released: 2007, Music Buy Mail/Artist WorkXX
Rating: 0.5/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Dean Boland hails from Canada and is a member of the band Random Damage. During the last two years he has gathered material to release his own solo album and this EP is a sneak preview of what’s to come. If the album is as crappy as the EP then I’ll be glad if I never hear of this guy again. Boland is normally a guitarist, but on this EP he also sings. And let me tell you, I can now understand and appreciate why he’s only allowed to play guitar in Random Damage.

The bio claims that his music is influenced by The Beatles, Blur Oyster Cult and Foo Fighters, but to mention those bands in the same sentence as Boland’s music is a disgrace to music history. To me the music sounds like pale, boring and generic retro-rock that totally lacks any kind of feeling whatsoever. The only thing that’s actually OK is Boland’s poor voice, but that only brings the album up to a 0.5 instead of a 0.

IN MY CORNER contains 5 songs written by Boland which may be well-written and well-arranged, but Boland has completely forgotten the most important thing – edge, feeling and confidence. This is lame music could be written and performed by any high school student. If you’re still interested then you can get this EP as bonus CD on the new Random Damage CD HUMAN FLYTRAP which has already been reviewed on in the main section. There’s one bearable song on this EP, which is “Too Late”.
