Blood Mortized
The Key To A Black Heart
August 2012
Released: 2012, Chaos Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Blood Mortized are a band that I’ve not had previous experience of before but seeing on the Bio that they feature Anders Hansson of Amon Amarth fame and that they favour the more Old School Swedish Death Metal sound definitely intrigued me to check out this new album from them… …and my word was I in for a treat!

Right from the get go it’s clear that this is a band that is not afraid to wear their influences on their sleeve, and with influences such as Swedish Death Metal titans like Entombed, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Amon Amarth and such like then that’s certainly a mixture to create something truly and ass kickingly awesome! From the start of the album on the track Unleashing The Hounds the guitar tone that the band has created instantly harks back to that awesome gritty low end crunchy tone that has become so synonymous with the Swedish Death Metal sound which I absolutely fucking love! I remember hearing Bloodbath’s – Resurrection Through Carnage album for the first time and being absolutely stunned by the fucking incredible guitar tone on that album (and also very disappointed when that tone changed dramatically on future albums) and Blood Mortized have achieved something very similar with their album The Key To A Black Heart. If this Swedish Death Metal guitar tone on this album and albums in the past of Dismember and Bloodbath don’t make you want to grit your teeth and fucking head butt someone then there’s something wrong with you! ;-D

The vocals sit at the right level in the mix to not be overpowering, neither distant, but just at the right place so you can still make out the lyrics and not have them overpowering the rest of the music. The same can be said of the Guitars and Drums. Everything is given its equal footing in terms of the production on this album which combines it all into one big gigantic Death Metal fist to your face!

Stand out tracks for me are the opening track Unleashing The Hounds, Rekviem (which features a really awesome sinister intro) and Shadow Of The Quarter Sun (which sounds like it could have very easily come from one of Dismember’s greatest albums), but in all honesty all of the tracks on this album really honestly do kick some serious amount of fucking ass in one way or another!

If you class yourself as being a fan of Old School Death Metal like Entombed, Dismember and Hypocrisy, or if you’re a fan of the Amon Amarth riffing of Anders Hansson or are a fan of the Swedish Death Metal revival that’s come out from bands like Bloodbath and you DON’T check out this band then I would say you’re doing yourself a great disservice!

I would love to see Blood Mortized and Bloodbath do a tour together in the future to bring this music to the masses!

45 minutes of awesome crunching Death Metal that will punch out your fucking ears! Pure bliss!
