Bloodstained
Greetings From Hell
March 2005
Released: 2004, Sonic Age Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Waspman

I have to say, Sonic Age Records, along with its offshoot Cult Metal Classics, is quickly becoming one of my favorite labels. With great bands like Made of Iron and Overlorde, along with bitchin’ re-releases of bands like Manilla Road, Black Knight, and Hanker, a traditional metal fan just can’t go wrong. Well, add newcomers Bloodstained to the list of awesome bands on the label’s roster. These four Greek metal warriors, some of whom have been slogging it out in their native Greece’s metal scene for many years, got together in 2000 and have proceeded to blow minds at shows wherever they have gone. GREETINGS FROM HELL is their debut album, and a promise of great things to come.

Taking their cue from the metal masters of bygone days, along with a solid kick of modern power metal, GREETINGS FROM HELL sound like a cross between * insert X power metal band here * and Jag Panzer-styled American metal. Needless to say, it’s a potent mix, especially when the band kicks into overdrive on songs like “Die By My Sword” and the title cut. Theodoros Gourlomatis’ vocals really shine through over top of the music. He already has an identity of his own, though he does occasionally recall The Tyrant or Bruce Dickinson at times. Oddly, as good as he is, there are moments on the disc where it almost sounds like he is out of tune with the music, but those times disappear as quickly as they come. It’s something to watch out for on the next album though.

All in all, Bloodstained is a great new addition to any metal collection, with a disc full of true metal anthems that never fail to get the blood boiling. This one will be wrecking my speakers for a long time to come.
