Beyond Darkness
Deep Inside of You
January 2002
Released: 2001, Independent
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: JP

Another Japanese band in the freaky doom-death sweepstakes! BD are a great group although it is hard to get a real feel for the band with this 3 song, minute EP. One of the prevailing themes seems to be sex. Not sex in the "yeah, yeah, bang, bang, let's get laid tonite!" kinda way but more in a semi-erotic, doomy fashion. Song titles are "Ebbing Tide", "Moisten Me" and the title cut. The front cover has a woman lying face down and the back cover has another women lying face up.

Musically this four-piece creates silky smooth doom death that flows, ebbs and washes over you in a sonic seascape rather than pummel your head with flying riffs and thunderous double-kick drums. There is undeniably a great deal of talent in terms of technical musicianship.

Unfortunately, the songs are a little dull, extremely well executed, but dull and I can't put my finger on why. They don't really sound like many other bands which is a plus but they do have a euro doom vibe as well. The songs would benefit from repeated headphone listens as there is a lot of material going on in the songs but still comes across flat.

Regardless if you have a urge to check out some well done foreign classic doom, check these guys out!
