Backdraft
The Second Coming
November 2007
Released: 2007, GMR Music Rating: 4.0/5 Reviewer: Anders Sandvall HERE TO SAVE YOU ALL was the name of the band’s debut album that came out in 2002 and got great reviews in the media. Now it’s time to follow that success and even though I haven’t heard the band’s debut I can imagine that it sounds as good as THE SECOND COMING. Backdraft’s music is a mix of stoner/blues rock’n’roll mixed with southern rock music in the vein of Black Label Society. Despite their Swedish heritage, Backdraft sounds really American. Ralf Gyllenhammar (Mustasch) and Moa Malmsten (Meldrum) do guest-vocals on the 11 tracks and the material leaves a lasting impression on you. Lead singer Åhlén is great; he has surely found his perfect position in life. Guitar players Johansson and Nordlander hand out strong guitar duels and sharp riffs. My favorite tracks are “Just Ain’t Right”, “Cannonball”, “Rising” and “Rise and Shine”, which are simple but groovy southern rock tunes with a lot of attitude. Other songs worth mentioning are “Backstabbin Bastards”, “Game of Life”, “Sugar Mama” and “Lady”. The only bad song is the semi-acoustic ballad called “Gypsy”, which is slow and boring; and where Åhlén shows a softer side of his voice that doesn’t fit him at all. THE SECOND coming is a great second album by a band I’m surely gonna keep my eyes on in the future. http://www.myspace.com/backdraft ![]()
