Sydney, Australia’s Apolyom is a death/thrash quintet in the vein of Pantera. The band was founded by brothers Shane and Todd Querruel in 1999 and played Slayer and Metallica covers under the name Defcon before recruiting the rest of the band and changing their moniker.

DEMOLOGY follows 2002’s COMING AFTER YOU E.P. and sees the band certainly growing as a unit. The three songs here are much heavier and vocalist Craig Milson has taken on more of a gruff style that borders on death singing. DEMOLOGY is much less polished than COMING AFTER YOU was and the raw feel of a demo is in place. “Blasphemy” is the best track here with fast riffs and excellent vocals from Milson. His voice is clear and intelligible, but still rough (no clean vocals here). Guitars are once again at the forefront of these songs and Mark Jeans and Shane Querruel trade off riffs that compliment the chugging speed of the backing rhythm section.

Apolyom is still working the kinks out and finding themselves as a band. They seem to be doing the live circuit down under and while I enjoyed their COMING AFTER YOU E.P. a bit more, DEMOLOGY is still worth checking out.
