Abigail Williams
May 2007
Released: 2007, Candlelight Recors
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: Waspman

Seems kinda pointless reviewing this now, as apparently fledgling band Abigail Williams has decided to call it quits, mere months after releasing this E.P., which is their only official output. Seems the band got tired of the constant lineup problems that have plagued them – oh well.

As you can tell, I’m not exactly broken up by the loss of this band as, based on LEGEND, they were nothing to write home about anyway. The band’s chosen genre of melodic death metal is overplayed and long past the point where new bands are required. Sure, the band mixes it up a bit and tosses in some off-handed black metal inflected bits, but overall, LEGEND is five tracks of standard melo-death and nothing more. While I don’t think it’s as bad as most of the reviews I’ve seen make it out to be, there is nothing about Abigail Williams that is required listening. Maybe if the band had stuck around and had a chance to grow, they could have become something more, but we’ll never know.

Seeing as the band is gone now, that’s about as much typing as I’m willing to give them. If you’re a melodic death metal completist (do such people exist?) – fill your boots. If not – please move along.
