This 7 track EP is the latest offering from Anckora, and upon recognising some of the tracks I realised that it actually contains re-recorded songs from earlier releases.
Unlike a lot of other industrial bands they don't have the obligatory couple of songs in English (which is often unnecessary as it ruins the overall harshness or it), and instead stick to their native Russian through, which is a suitably aggressive language that works well and makes a nice change from the German more commonly associated with the Industrial scene.
It's full of heavy guitars (a bit like Rammstein or Hanzel und Gretyl), set to a pounding drumbeat, with Katrin's vocals ranging from growling and screaming, with some clean vocals in places. There's a bit of rapping on a couple of the tracks, but not too much, and along with the backing vocals it's a diverse and interesting listen. The electronic/cyber element is quite subtle and mostly used as an intro to the songs and even then it very quickly explodes into metal.
If you like the metal end of the industrial scene this is a must. Image wise they come across as an Industrial dance act and put on a full cyber light show live, but don't be fooled into thinking they don't play metal before listening to them as this is most definitely metal.
