Arch Enemy
Wages of Sin
May 2001
Released: 2001, Toy`s Factory Rating: 5.0/5 Reviewer: El Cid Mwahahahaha wouldn’t you like to know how this got to me so fast? Well I won’t tell, but here’s the review! This absolutely mind blowing, and I could end the review there and tell you to go get it, but it’s not out yet… You would come to think that maybe since Arch Enemy released their last opus (Burning Bridges) in 1999, a new singer coming along and every soul in the world of metal waiting for this one, it might be a bit disapoiting. WRONG! This one can easily contend with Black Earth, Stigmata and Burning Bridges! What’s that you say? The new singer is a female so they can’t be as heavy? WRONG! Angela Gossow is as good a vocalist as any guy in the death metal scene! Absolutely no clean vocals in the album, only a death growl that comes right at you every single time! As far as the music goes, do I really need to elaborate? This is arpeggio heaven amongst other things, the drumming is tight, the bass is excellent and the guitars are simply magnificent. The one thing that sets this release apart (besides Angel(a)) is the fact that there’s a lot of variety in the form of slower intros, catchy riffing and not only eternal soloing. In short this release IS what you are all waiting for, Wages of Sin IS worth the wait and as soon as you can run for dear life to get this masterpiece from one of the strongest bands in the world of metal.
