Apolyom
Coming After You
June 2004
Released: 2002, Independent Rating: 4.0/5 Reviewer: Lord of the Wasteland Sydney, Australia’s Apolyom is a death/thrash quintet in the vein of Pantera. The band was founded by brothers Shane and Todd Querruel in 1999 and played Slayer and Metallica covers under the name Defcon before recruiting the rest of the band and changing their moniker. COMING AFTER YOU is a four-track demo that was recorded back in late 2002 and boasts surprisingly good production for an independent release. “Dead and Buried” features some excellent double-tracked vocals and an evil-sounding backwards opening. The band isn’t 100% breakneck speed all the time, either. Though it can hardly be described as mellow, “Nothing Lord” is a mid-tempo number with good riffs and the middle section of “Judge” has a cool solo. This band seems based on strong riffs and the powerful bellow of Craig Milson which should get them noticed. The music suits the package, too, so this will appeal to a thrashy metalcore crowd.
