Abomnium
Coffinships
June 2013
Released: 2013, UKEM Records
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team

With the intro of quiet drumming, which draws closer and closer it explodes into pure black metal aggression, with the harsh evil lyrics making me smile instantly!

With so much going on you’d think a lot of people would have been involved on this album, but this impressive album is done by one man; Peter Watkinson, who was originally from the UK, but is now based in The Netherlands. This is Peter’s second album release and show he is just going from strength to strength in his vocals, aswell as lyrically, making him up there with the best of the well-known black metal bands. Peter has recently signed to UK based extreme metal label UKEM Records. Label manager Chris Newby is quoted as saying “Having followed Pete’s musical career since the beginning I was really looking forward to hearing his latest offering. It absolutely blew me away. I can see a real progression in his song writing and ability. If you didn’t know it was only one man creating this extremity, you’d be fooled into thinking there was a full line up behind this album; such is its intensity and tightness”

I can honestly say I agree with everything that is said here. I am always impressed when you receive such an amazing album & find out it only has one member! There is also great explosive guitaring, riffs & furious drumming and some great melodies thrown in, making each track individual and catchy.

He uses a multitude of influences, with each track having a different feel about them.

With there being a lot of death/thrash metal influences, I feel many people will appreciate this album & I expect to see some good reviews being published, as there is no denying this is one amazing album. There is also some impressive album artwork in there too!

Unfortunately, Peter will be keeping this project studio based only, so we won’t get the opportunity to see these tracks performed live on stage, which is a shame really as they need to be out there!! Seriously one album that needs to be heard by all black metal fans.
