Agents of Man
Count your Blessings
August 2005
Released: 2005, Century Media
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Agents of a Man come from New Jersey and consists of members from the hardcore acts Bulldoze, One 4 One and Train of Thought. The last member in was the bass player Mike (Sworn Enemy, Cold as life) and the first release was the MCD AOM EP 01 and even though the distribution was poor the MCD sold about 9000 copies. The band has also toured through the US with a lot of different hardcore and metal acts and was during a tour that the label discovered the band and signed them.

The band has recorded at Purple Light Studios with producer Mike Barilie. Mike has done a really good job behind the stand and the production sounds brutal but yet melodic in certain places.

The songs are very well structured and keep an even quality. The problem with this album is that in the verses it’s hc and in the refrains they suddenly switches to play college rock and George sings “normal” instead of the angry hc voice he uses otherwise.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.... offers us 12 tracks of heavy hc and a bit lighter hc in the songs “Death of Me”, “Blood Money” and “Repercussion”. We have some college rock mixed with hc in “Can’t Run Away”, “Truth You Hide” and “Murder”. They have also featured an acoustic ballad called “Be my Savior” where George shows that he is a quite good singer and is a potential radio hit.

The band gives us a pretty good taste of what it can sound like when you mix college rock’n’roll along with hardcore. The first half of the album impresses and it’s in that part of the album where the hc influences shine through the most. At the end of the album the songs even out and lose their intensity. But at the end of the day I think that this band appeals to a hc crowd that also listens to a more mainstream rock.
