Metal band reunions seem to be a rather common occurrence these days and Agent Steel is no exception. Broken up for eleven years, the band reformed with both new and former members in 1999 to write and record Omega Conspiracy, which was released in January of this year. Since the band’s history is somewhat long and complex, I’ll suggest that you go to the Agent Steel website and read their bio rather than me making a futile attempt to summarize it.

I happened to get this CD as a bonus in a trade I made with a fellow Disgruntled Metalhead. I had mentioned on the discussion board that I hadn’t heard anything by the band before and was interested to know what they were like. Turns out my trading partner was kind enough to throw this one in along with the rest (Nice guy, huh?).

Anyway, Omega Conspiracy is a Bay-area Thrash band with a strong Power Metal influence, (I’ve been told by some that they are Power Metal w/Thrash overtones... I still say it’s Thrash, but you can make up your own friggin’ mind.) with lyrics that focus on making contact with extraterrestrials. Some of the better songs on the disc are "Fighting Backwards", New Godz", "Into the Nowhere", and the brilliant closing track "It’s Not What You Think" (Which I will admit is Power Metal...).

Agent Steel aren’t really doing anything new on this CD, but there aren’t many bands doing the raw sounding Thrash/Power type of Metal these days, either (That I’m aware of, anyway...). I doubt Omega Conspiracy will blow anyone away, but it’s an enjoyable listen nonetheless.
