1833 AD
End of Time [EP]
June 2011
Released: 2011, Unsigned
Rating: 4.0/5

It’s been a busy five years for the black metal quintet 1833 AD. In that time they have built up a strong following within the Indian metal scene, received positive press feedback and caught the approval of George Kollias (drummer from Nile).

This three track offering shows us why these guys are worthy of achieving such a commendable reception. Revving the engine into fifth gear, the opening track (also called) ‘1833 AD’ leaves all the things that one may expect: dynamic riffs, banshee wailing shrieks that could strip paint of the walls and rapid fire drumming that is both consistent as it is technical.

‘Empty Shrine’ pulls back into slow and brooding guitars with a gravitational pull where Nishant Abraham Varghese’s ghastly vocals diversify in range. A well timed mid-melodic breakdown bursts into a solo that proves this is not a record not to be taken lightly.

Finishing of this compact package of audio anarchy, ‘Who will kill the emperor’ marches like a beast from the abyss intact with a powerful dialogue before enticing the ear with further guitar wizardry.

What works with this promo CD is the precision and production of their style. Touching the essence of black metal and stamping a signature with their name on it, this is band that is unmistakably and quite remarkably in a sphere of their own. Now starter is over; bring on the main course!
