Below are the top 10 CD's as chosen by the staff of Metal-Rules.com. Below that are the individual lists for each writer.

Overall Top 10 CD's of 2000

1. Iron Maiden - Brave New World

The #1 CD as chosen by the staff of Metal-Rules.com is Iron Maiden's Brave New World. It is interesting to note that this CD was not actually chosen as #1 by anyone, but because just about all of us liked the CD a lot it ended up ranking so high. That's the cool thing about this band. They are loved by fans of many styles of metal from the traditional metal fans to power metal and even black metal fans. They have something that appeals in some way to just about every metalhead. So as such, this CD is a fitting one for the #1 spot and a testament to the longevity of this great band!

PERSUADER
This Swedish band released their first full-length CD The Hunter this year and immediately I was hooked. It's power metal but with aggression and melody. A band I recommend everyone check out.

Disappointments
1. Tony Iommi (solo CD)
With the line-up of crappy singers that appear on this CD, is anyone surprised that it sucked?

2. Ayreon - Flight of the Migrator (2 CD Set)
With the line-up of awesome singers that appear on this CD, you would of thought thought that this would of been much, much better!

3. COC - America's Volume Dealer
Boring, simple, sleepy ROCK. What happened? Where is the metal? This band has been going downhill since their CD entitled Blind.

Favorite re-recording
I know this was not a REAL section but I had to in some way mention this CD - Gamma Ray - Blast From The Past. I wanted to put this 2 CD set in my top 20, but because it does not contain "new" songs it was disqualified. It's GREAT nonetheless!

Disappointments
1) Cage - Astrology
Overall, an excellent traditional-styled Metal album. The problem? Cage's new drummer... His drumming style is way too simplistic for a modern-day Metal band. Do yourselves a favor, guys... Invest in some drum lessons for Mikey or find someone else

2) Racer X - Technical Difficulties
Probably not quite the comeback these guys could've made, but it still kicks ass! My only complaints about TD are that Racer X didn't go with a car-themed album cover like their earlier releases and there was no cover of an unreleased Judas Priest song like they did on 1986's Second Heat ("Heart of a Lion"). Now that Scott Travis is an official member of Priest, there's absolutely no reason as to why they couldn't have done another unknown JP tune... Oh yeah! And guitarist Bruce Bouillet didn't play on it, either.

3. In Flames - Clayman
A decent CD in it's own right, but when compared to other In Flames' albums this one simply comes up short. I KNOW this band is capable of writing much better material than what's offered here.

Best New Band
Silent Exile

Disappointments
1. Six Feet Under - Graveyard Classics
Yup, way to jump on a shitty bandwagon boys. Bitchin' vocals Mr. Barnes.

2. Virus7
Yup, way to jump on a shitty bandwagon Hank. Fate will not be Mercyful.

3. Scratching Post - This Time It's Personal
Hey look! Bif Naked went" metal"!

4. Soulfly - Primitive
A once-great metallian is further lost to lounge-room, guest-musician metal hell.

5. Pantera - Reinventing The Steel
Formulaic and dull. I think they already released this album and called it "Cowboys from Hell" or "Vulgar Display of Something or Other".

Nathan  - Top 20

1. Lethargy - Discography ’93-‘99

2. Martyr - Warp Zone
3. Agressor Medieval Rites

16. Clearcut - Clearcut
17. Nocturnus - Ethereal Tomb
18. Nile - Black Seeds of Vengeance
19. Symbyosis - Crisis
20. Illdisposed - Retro

Best New Band
This normally would be a tough one for me. But this year, the answer is obvious: Spiral Architect. Just listen to the album and you’ll understand why!

Disappointments
1. Pantera - Reinventing the Steel
Where is the attitude? Where is the shredding? Pantera seems plain tired on this one.

2. Deicide - Insineratehymn
Deicide has always been just a mediocre death metal band in my books. This album is just more of the same ol’ stuff.

3. Konkhra - Come Down Cold
Where is the heaviness?

4. The Haunted - The Haunted Made Me Do It
Nowhere even near the intensity and energy the debut had. Bring back Peter, damn it!!!!!

5. Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
Where’s the dynamics? Erik didn’t write enough material. Pete’s performance could be much better (and his drums sound horrible).

20. PANTERA - Reinventing the Steel

Best New Band
DISPATCHED

Disappointments
1. MAYHEM - Grand Declaration of War
This band was trying so hard to make an innovative record that they totally forgot not to make a lame one. Biggest bomb of 2000 hands-down.

2. RAISE HELL - Not Dead Yet
A bunch of 17-year-old kids who thought they were a black metal band in 1998 think they can cut a decent thrash record in 2000. Wrong.

3. ROTTING CHRIST - Khronos 666
As one of the only person on earth who likes RC's newer stuff much better than the old stuff, this pathetic attempt to revive past glories didn't sit too well with me.

4. STORMHAMMER - FireBall
Great name, great cover, great concept, but European power metal as bland as butter. Too bad.

5. DEICIDE - Incineratehymn
I'm glad Glen and the boys are still going strong, but their new stuff is nothing like it was back when he was threatening to tear cats up on-stage.

Pete - Top 20

Best New Band
Blaze - Silicon Messiah

Disappointments
Motley Crue - New Tattoo
There was really only one big letdown for me in 2000 that mattered and it was the Crue's New Tattoo album. It seemed to be yet another step down for a band that was so instrumental in my metalhead development. All I can say is that I am hoping for a Tommy Lee turnaround and triumphant return to one of the greatest rock bands in the history of slime (not that Randy is a bad drummer...it's just that he ain't T-bone!!!).
PRAY FOR THE RETURN OF THE COWBELL!

2. DREAMS OF DAMNATION - Let The Violence Begin
YACK!! I expected something more from Jim Durkin!!! This absolutely stinks!

Disappointments
ROTTING CHRIST - Khronos
It's not that this album is horrible (although clearly the target audience is 13-year old middle class girls who go by names like "Chalice"-real name something like Martha Giswoldski - who fancy themselves to be EVIL, and who would list their favorite hobbies as lurking in cemeteries, dark magik, vampires, the occult, The Crow, and bisexuality (as long as they can get all of those things in and still get home in time to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer). It's just that I had such high hopes from the previous Rotting Christ offerings…

9. Slayer (July) (although I love Slayer and really can't say the same for CC-although they were great live--see my "Worst Show" choice below for why this show didn't rank higher)
10. Armored Saint (May) tied with Lord Gore/Requiem/Krabathor (September)
Worst Show of 2000
The rest of the mallcore "Pukefest" that I had to endure in order to see Slayer

Best New Band
Blaze
Well, Blaze with this band will kick Maiden's ass!!!! Wonderful first album!!

Disappointments
1. Iron Maiden - Brave New World
Bruce's solo is much better. Some songs suck cause are too long...

2. Stratovarius - Infinite
I think I've heard some songs of this album before... maybe on another
Stratovarius album!!!

3. Therion - Deggial
Not a bad album, but this "church metal" is starting to get boring - it's
time to get back to rage of the beginning!

4. Running Wild - Victory
Well, just not so good as RW is used to do.

5. Metalium - State of Triumph
Much worse than their amazing first album... They became another "melodic
band."
