The Kings of Metal

This poll was voted on by visitors to Metal Rules!! We've let this poll run for long enough...long enough to see that the clear winners are.........

Kings of Metal

#1.  Iron Maiden - 1197 votes /  24%
Maiden fans have clearly spoken crowning maiden with the title of "Kings of Metal."

#2. Metallica - 722 votes / 15%

To our surprise Metallica gets the #2 spot! It wouldn't be a surprise to us if many of these votes are a vote for their pre-90's material which was undeniably metal.

#3. Black Sabbath - 449 votes / 9%
The godfathers of metal come in at a #3.

#4. Manowar  - 388 votes / 8%
The self-proclaimed kings of metal come in at a respectable  #4.

#5. Slayer -  366 votes / 7%
The sound of pure aggression - SLAYER! Kudos go to this band who despite releasing their best material in the 80's have NOT sold out and are still true to their roots.

#6. Judas Priest - 287 votes / 6%
The Priest only ranked at #6...kind of surprising that they weren't further up the list. Well it's no surprise that they'd make the top ten!

#7. Blind Guardian  - 184 votes / 4%
Power metalers Blind Guardian take spot #7 surprisingly beating out their fellow countrymen Helloween!

#8. Helloween - 151 votes / 3%
Probably one of the most influential power metal bands ever take eighth place.

#9. Ozzy Osbourne - 168 votes / 3%
Despite the fact that Ozzy continues to take out (c)rap metal on his Oz-fest tour, there is no doubt that this man is a metal god.

#10. Death  - 137 votes / 3%
The only death metal band in the top ten!

About this poll
Excluded from this poll were new metal bands who don't yet have a proven track record. Also excluded are bands who have broken up or who haven't done anything new in years. After all how can a band be "Kings of Metal" if they no longer exist or if they have only been together for a very short period.
