U.D.O. to headline Wednesday June 9th at Sweden Rock
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Former Accept-vocalist Udo Dirkschneider is one of the most acknowledged characters in hard rock and never fails to bring down the house at SRF. No wonder - heavy metal doesn't get much better than the immortal Accept-classics everybody wants to hear and nobody gets tired of, along with the best pieces from U.D.O's own catalogue, twelve studio albums strong to date. The latest of which, "Dominator", has been lauded as one of the band's finest for many years, and here is something that maybe isn't mentioned often enough - that a U.D.O.-concert is not only a good place to rediscover old fave-tracks, but to discover new ones as well.

Confirmed bands so far (out of a total of 60+):

Slayer (Us)
Bachman & Turner (Can)
Only show in Scandinavia

LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR Launch Record Label; Announce Album
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Emerging from the caustic burrows of Chicago comes the monolith of metal known as LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR, a sonic “fuck you” to the current trends and sub-genres of metal who carry the torch of metal’s roots (Celtic Frost, Slayer, Motorhead) with a death breath of fresh air, and spitting gas on the flames.

The Greek mythology-inspired carnage continues on LOTM's upcoming fourth full-length, Evil Power. The CD and digital download will be released on April 13, 2010 on The Grind-House Records, an independent record label started by Steve Rathbone, Chris Wozniak (both from LOTM) and Josh Diebel (former head of Alleysweeper Records). The record will be distributed by Southern Lord Records, who have released the band's previous three albums on CD and vinyl, two EPs and DVD.

Evil Power lays all in its path to waste with an approach as heavy as the Kraken, while showing off the band’s heavy rock and punk influences. A deluxe LP version will be released in late summer 2010, featuring a bonus track not available on CD or digital download. Check out the Scott Jackson cover art, and hear the track "We Are Hades" at the band's MySpace page now: http://www.myspace.com/lairoftheminotaur.

Evil Power CD tracklist:
1. "Attack the Gods"
2. "Let’s Kill These Motherfuckers"
3. "Riders of Skullhammer, We Ride the Night"
4. "Evil Power"
5. "Goatstorm"
6. "Hunt and Devour"
7. "Metal Titans"
8. "Blood From the Witch’s Vein"
9. "We Are Hades"
10. "Death March of the Conquerors"
11. "The Violent Iron Age of Man"

The album was recorded in the dead of winter in Chicago at Semaphore Studios by Sanford Parker, and mastered by Scott Hull. Rathbone states, “If War Metal Battle Master was the war, Evil Power is the party after a bloody victory.” The album features new bassist, Nate Olp (vocalist/bassist of Demiricous) and guest backing vocals by General Diabolical Slaughter (Usurper), bringing mucho mayhem to the fold.

A new video for the title track, Evil Power, will be released with the album. Rathbone warns, “There will be blood! This video is unrelentingly brutal.” Directed by Ryan Oliver, the special effects master behind the "War Metal Battle Master" video and head of Chicago based Deathblow Productions. His credits include The Toolbox Murders and Among the Dead. The video's horror theme graphically details the torment of some unlucky virgins, sacrificed to the mighty Minotaur. An uncut version will be available on the web (also in HD), and a TV edit will be shown on MTV2/Headbangers Ball, Fuse and On Demand.

Coinciding with the release, the band is headlining a U.S. tour through the Midwest and East Coast in April:

BLACK BREATH Attack: Brutal New Album Details + Tour
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Seattle’s BLACK BREATH have stormed the scene with their uncompromising energy and infectious brutality. The band has played heavily alongside Nachtmystium, The Accüsed, Victims, Trap Them and tons more across the US through 2009, and in November Southern Lord released the first recordings from the young act in the form of the potent Razor to Oblivion EP, creating a deafening buzz immediately.

The next logical step of course; a full-length BLACK BREATH release. They traveled to the opposite coast, shacking up at Kurt Ballou's God City Studios (Converge, Trap Them, Disfear) to create the 10-track jaw-dropper dubbed Heavy Breathing, due out March 30th on Southern Lord. The massive album picks up where Razor... EP left off, infusing the band's rabid punk, metal and hardcore influences to create truly memorable hooks and buildups, yet incorporating more death metal influences this time around. The more brutal, metallic direction of Heavy Breathing is like a fired-up blend of Poison Idea on a whiskey-soaked Dismember bender...

A top label priority for 2010, BLACK BREATH will assault the masses on a major scale this year, touring constantly. The next major offensive has been planned, as the band will hit the road in May alongside Converge, with contributions from Gaza, Coalesce, Lewd Acts, Harvey Milk and more.

Woe Of Tyrants Unveil Album Title/Release Date for 3rd Album
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Woe Of Tyrants spent the entirety of 2009 criss-crossing the US on a multitude of tours. After the grueling schedule came to a close, did they head home to rest and take some time off? NOPE! They dove right into songwriting for the follow up to their sophomore album and Metal Blade debut, Kingdom Of Might. This time around, the guys have seriously turned up the shred-knob and churned out some of the most exciting songs we've heard swirling around the Metal Blade offices in quite some time. On this record, you'll find equal parts speed, groove and over the top guitar soloing. Headbanging will be mandatory.

The new album, Threnody, will be released worldwide on April 13th while the band will be on the road with Overkill and Vader. The artwork and first track will be up on the band's myspace, myspace.com/wot, in the coming weeks. Before then, SiriusXM Liquid Metal listeners will be treated to an exclusive premiere of the first single, Creatures Of The Mire on Friday, February 12th.

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro discusses the themes of Threnody:
Well 2009 proved to be a monstrous one for Woe of Tyrants. It was a year of accomplishing goals such as releasing our debut Metal Blade album, touring with bands we've grown up listening to, and meeting thousands of awesome people all over the country. As we embark into 2010, our goals have shifted up a few gears. We have a brand baby spankin' new record that we finished recording at the end of 2009 with Jamie King producing, and to embrace the cliché "this is the most epic brutal stuff we've ever done and we're stoked on it!" The album is entitled Threnody. Now for those of us who do not know what that word means right off hand (I had to look it up as I was reading a passage from Ralph Waldo Emerson long ago), a threnody is a song or hymn inspired by the grief of losing someone you love. The album tells a story of a non-specific individual traveling between planets searching for answers, while paralleling Satan's fall from grace to damnation at the same time. We all experience a change at some point as we travel through life, albeit not of the same magnitude as Lucifer, that will render us either content, or disgusted. When disgust is the feeling, then we begin to miss our former self as if they were an entirely different person. I'd like to be clear that I'm not referring specifically to Christians, or Muslims, or Amish or whatever else the kids are doing these days. Threnody, as we are using it, is a story of grief over losing oneself. This album will surprise those familiar with our band, and hopefully surpass any preconceived notions of those who are listening to us for the first time. If you have expectations for this record to sound like our last two albums, it doesn't. Well, a little like the others, as we still prefer playing leads over doing breakdowns, and we still wish we were Wintersun or Decapitated. But for the most part, this record is new territory for us and we are excited to unleash it.

We have a huge touring schedule kicking off in the spring, preceded by some regional shows in February as a part of the "Metal as Art" tour with Hypno5e, Starring Janet Leigh and Fallen Martyr. At the end of March, we leave on the KILLFEST tour which features Overkill, Vader, God Dethroned, Warbringer and Evile. We couldn't be happier about being involved with such an epic tour, and to join Overkill on their 25th anniversary tour is truly an honor. Much love!"

Threnody track listing:
1. Tetelestai
2. Creatures Of The Mire
3. Venom Eye
4. Tempting The Wretch
5. Threnody
6. Bloodsmear
7. The Venus Orbit
8. Lightning Over Atlantis
9. Singing The Surrender
10. Descendit Ad Inferos (The Harrowing Of Hell)

DAATH Guitarists Complete Solo Record; Commence Songwriting
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Extreme metal at its very best, plain and simple, is what the Atlanta based quintet DAATH delivered on their highly acclaimed latest album, The Concealers. Currently the group is more determined, energized, and focused than ever before to continue expanding upon their unique, uncompromising and dynamic sound. For those previously uninitiated, feel free to head over to www.myspace.com/daath to see what they are all about.

The band had this statement: “Unpredictability and chaos are two themes defining the times we live in. Everything about DAATH’s career has been married to these themes. We’ve accepted them as beautiful and have learned to love the ride. Despite the chaos there is one thing that is for certain: we will always be pushing the boundaries of what we do. This fall we will bring you a record you are not expecting to hear from us. This venture will have more to offer than our previous efforts. We are committed to always improving our sound, our songs, and our playing. It will not be said that our next record will be the most brutal sound we’ve created yet, or that it’s going to be the our heaviest to date. That would be cliché. What you can expect to hear are really catchy, intense songs with soaring riffs that will encourage one to hit the repeat button. Arena sized choruses that will remain in your head whether you like it or not. Innovative, ground breaking solos. Bashing – blasting - yet dynamic drumming. An uncompromised low end paired with unique synth work. Collectively, these elements direct the left turns we have always chosen to take. This will not be The Hinderers Part II, The Re-Concealers, or The Conhinderers. This will be a brand new sound.

“Many important facts have happened over the past year. The first being that we put out The Concealers, which we consider to be the first true DAATH record. The second fact being that we toured without Kevin Talley. Kevin needed a sabbatical in 2009 and we gave it to him. We took some fantastic fill-ins and had some legendary times. Each one of those tours was great in their own regard. We played in front of some brand new audiences in brand new places and hung out with some of our closest friends. We learned our songs go beyond who is in the band. We also learned we prefer to play them with Kevin. To clear up any confusion, Kevin Talley is still in DAATH.

“Another highlight from the past few months is Emil Werstler and Eyal Levi signing a deal with Magna Carta records to do a series of instrumental releases. Joined by drummer Sean Reinert of Cynic, artistic limits were pushed into territories only previously dreamed of. There’s an element of boundary-less music on the first Levi / Werstler release (due out Spring 2010). We've never had the chance to really explore this with DAATH. What was learned from doing this record is the need to be making music which pushes our boundaries constantly. The next few years will be marked by many releases from our camp via DAATH and Levi / Werstler; as well as various projects still in the planning stages. There is too much music in each of our psyches to be limited to one album every two years. This may work for some artists, but not for us.

“While this recent undertaking may seem elaborate and obscure; we assure DAATH fans on every level, we have total control of our art. We look forward to bringing you the album of our collective career this fall.”

Pathology announces new members / enters studio
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Recently signed to Victory Records, San Diego’s Pathology has entered Doubletime Studios today to record their label debut. The band feels very comfortable there with producer/engineer Jeff Forrest, having worked together on the group’s previous recordings. Doubletime has been going for 20 years and has a great and diverse client list including As I Lay Dying, Atreyu and Bleeding Through. Upon completion of the tracks, the album will be mixed in March by Hate Eternal guitarist Erik Rutan at his Mana Studios (Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains) for an anticipated early summer release.

“We are excited to be working with such a death metal legend,” expresses drummer Dave Astor. “We are confident that Erik will help bring us to the next level of brutality!”

Furthermore, the band have more news as they have undergone a line-up change with the new album with returning vocalist Matti Way and the addition of second guitarist Diego Sanchez (both ex-Disgorge) joining drummer Dave Astor and guitarist Tim Tiszczenko. The band will be adding a bassist to become a 5-piece when touring commences in May.

“We are very excited to be bringing Matti Way back,” states Astor. “We feel Matti is the voice of Pathology, and it would not be the same without him.”

In the meantime, the band wants to close with this - “We’re prepared to lay down the new Pathology and it’s our most brutal and heaviest to date,” promises drummer Dave Astor. “We are stoked to show our fans what we have been working on.”

STYGIAN'S FURY RISING HITS THE STREETS
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Fury Rising, the new album from Philadelphia's STYGIAN drops on February 9th, 2010 via Mortal Music. Mastered by James Murphy (Testament), Fury Rising is a dynamic and diverse collection of hook-laden tunes that rock hard and remain etched in memory. Visit http://www.MortalMusic.com or http://www.StygianRock.com to get your copy.

Here's what the critics are saying about Fury Rising:

...a combination of Metallica, Pantera, Alice in Chains, and a liberal dose of Zakk Wylde for good measure... these guys are the real deal. - Blogcritics.org

8/10 - Funeral Rain 'Zine.

...Stygian are a few years ahead of everyone else - Blistering.com

Track List:

Suffer Patiently
Fury Rising
Crimson Sand
My Regret
One More Shot
Last Redemption
Unstrung Hero
The Fear
Glass Legacy
Fever Slide

STYGIAN BIO

Frank Leary - Vocals/Guitar
Steve Bacchia - Drums
Mike Stewart - Bass
Patrick Hayden - Lead Guitar

Stygian came out swinging with their 2007 debut album Struggle incorporating a mix of Metallica-inspired metal, grooving hard rock, and catchy melodies that only hinted at the act’s promising future. That promise was made into a reality with the group's new album Fury Rising. Set for release on February 9, 2010 the album sees Stygian raise its game on every conceivable level. Massive production, hooky melodies, and undeniable groove make this a must have album for all fans of metal and heavy rock.

The Philadelphia, PA natives, vocalist/guitarist Frank Leary, drummer Steve Bacchia, and bassist Mike Stewart formed Stygian as diehard Metallica fans. They strived to learn every song from the old-school styles of “Creeping Death” to the impossibly frenetic “Dyer’s Eve.” Once the trio realized they could harness the energy and talent of their favorite band, they began to compose original music, establishing a unique sound derived equally from the worlds of heavy rock and metal. Stygian wrote, rehearsed, and refined their music until finally launching the material live. In July of 2008, Patrick Hayden took over lead guitar duties, making Stygian’s sound even more dynamic while completing the line up.

After opening for many national acts and gaining a strong fan base, Stygian landed an opening slot for the band Soil. It was at this show they befriended bassist Tim King. After watching over the band for some time and seeing them develop into their own with a never say die/do it yourself attitude, Tim offered the band a Recording Deal through Mortal Music. Mortal Music is the label formed by Tim King and label Partner Rob Such (Twelfth Gate, Chicago Powerfest).

Through the power of the Internet (Myspace, Stygianrock.com, and I-Tunes), Stygian was able to reach loyal fans all over the world, most notably the U.K., Australia, Denmark, and Mexico. This enabled them to build a fan base off their first album Struggle, and set the stage for their new masterpiece Fury Rising.

Mastered by legendary James Murphy of Safe house production (Testament, Death, Obituary), Fury Rising takes a musical journey from Alice in Chains style vocal melodies to longer, epic songs with varying vocal styles on songs like “The Fear”. Follow this by a fun take on Guitar Hero in the song "Unstrung Hero,” to the final ending with the acoustic "Fever Slide", a song about the struggle of dealing with cancer. Fury Rising takes the listener through a roller coaster of emotions and music frenzy. From technical metal anthems to the album's close in a swell of professionally performed pianos, cellos, and violins. "This is certainly an expansion of what we've ever done before. It has it all” drummer Steve Bacchia explains with excitement. Bacchia continues: “We're not afraid to have a ballad or an acoustic song on a hard rock and metal album either. We feel that bands today are taking music in one direction or another. They either are very heavy with screaming vocals or very mainstream with no memorable riffs and usually some form of whining emo vocals. What we like to do is have a diverse collection of songs that result in a worthwhile album.”

STYGIAN "FURY RISING"

Out 2-09-10 on Mortal Music compact disc and digital online. Distributed through MVD Distribution.

SOIL Triumphantly Return With Picture Perfect
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Few bands today encapsulate the tireless work ethic that it takes to succeed at all costs putting their livelihood on the line to take that one shot at rockstardom, well the Chicago based SOIL have taken this hard road and it’s now starting to pay off tenfold. This quartet is a the definition of pure hard rock fury with a backbone firmly rooted in heavy metal ultimately resulting in a dynamic, propulsive blend of hard driving anthems.

SOIL’s main emphasis focuses on crafting songs with massive hooks and punishing grooves that protrudes an energy that can’t be denied. This is most evident with their highly acclaimed latest album, Picture Perfect. The band’s latest single, “Lesser Man,” is also currently burning up the Active Rock charts lead by solid airplay from such tastemaker stations as WJRR (Orlando), WIIL (Chicago), KXFX (Santa Rosa), WJJO (Madison) and WXQR (Greenville).

However, the live show is where SOIL is at their very best and they are one of the few remaining artists that actually delivers an entertaining show that engages the viewer and leaves you enamored with their musical prowess and undeniable stage comrodery.

Recently returning from a sold-out European tour with genre titans Shinedown, the group immediately began preparing for a coast to coast North American tour as direct support to Smile Empty Soul. This lengthy trek kicks off in Los Angeles on March 25th and wraps up in May.Be sure to either see below or head over now to www.myspace.com/soil to view their complete tour itinerary, stream new tracks and view their latest videos.

Tim King (bass) further states: “It’s a great feeling getting back on tour throughout the U.S. virtually hitting every market. We are also looking forward to touring with Smile Empty Soul, whom I have been a fan of for years. Come out and hang with us. It’s going to be a party for sure.”

The working class rockstar mentality is something that has been missing for quite some time and SOIL are the true definition of modern day rock heroes. These are four men that equally embrace an undying work ethic, undeniable charm and you would be hard pressed to find anyone that isn’t wishing them all of the success in the world. SOIL’s fiery brand of rock madness is something to keep an eye out for.

In 2010, SOIL breaks new ground in the Active Rock world and Picture Perfect is a true statement as to the band’s determination and ultimate perseverance solidifying them as true hard rock titans.

Circle The Wagons, a creative feast of metal and punk, will initially be released on vinyl on March 8th, through the Peaceville Records webstore, as an exclusive taster for the legions of metal supporters out there who still care about great music delivered the classic way. The vinyl will also include a link to download a digital version of the album, which will be available when the regular and special edition CD versions of the album are released on April 6th.

The vinyl edition can be pre-ordered now at http://www.peaceville.com/darkthrone The packaging and contents of the special edition CD will be announced shortly, and will be available to pre-order from the Circle The Wagons mini-site, which will launch on February 12th.

Circle the Wagons was self-recorded at Necrohell II Studios.

Artwork for the album comes once again courtesy of Dennis Dread, notable for his talents on previous Darkthrone albums, F.O.A.D and 2008’s Dark Thrones and Black Flags.

From their thrash and death beginnings to their ascension to the pantheon of black metal greats, Darkthrone has always refused to stand still. They continue to embrace and explore their roots and capture the real spirit of sonic greatness on Circle the Wagons.

Darkthrone sails against the tides of trend and disposable metal, uncompromising and defiant as ever, an ideology expanded upon by Darkthrone drummer/lyricist, Fenriz, when explaining the meaning behind the title…

“The new metal decade starts with our album. It is a message to the invaders of our metal domain to circle their wagons! With our own brand of heavy metal/speed metal-punk we are a constant ambush on the modern overground metal traitors. Join us in our fight against instant gratification, and let's see who stands when the smoke clears.”

SUIDAKRA TO RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES THIS MARCH
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
While so-called "pagan metal" bands seem to be popping up around every corner lately, trying to conform to current trends instead of coming up with ideas of their own, SUIDAKRA have stayed true to the sound that they have become known for. Reaching new heights in their fourteen year history, the German Celtic metallers return full steam ahead with their 9th studio album,"Crógacht". Combining fast melodic death metal, Irish folk music, and a torrent of harmonies, they prove yet again the ability blend several different influences into their unique sound. To put a spin on things, new elements are introduced, like traditional instruments (bagpipes, banjo, tin whistles), a sixteen member choir and epic orchestral arrangements.

SUIDAKRA have performed numerous live shows, including five stints at the world famous Wacken Open Air festival, as well as completing several tours in Europe and Russia. In March 2009, the band successfully took part in a four week North American tour around the US and Canada. In June SUIDAKRA played 4 highly acclaimed shows in China; after another stop at the 20th Wacken Open Air; SUIDAKRA traveled to the UK for a tour in November with Saxon and Anvil.

After a brief tour of Spain the guys in SUIDAKRA are making their triumphant return to North America on tour this March with Orphaned Land. There will be three dates in the United States one in New York, one in Chicago and one in Austin, TX (during the South By South West Music Festival). The tour will also touch down in Canada in both Montreal and Toronto. Tickets are on sale now.

Guitarist and singer Arkadius spoke about the upcoming North American dates.

“We are excited that we are returning to North America for a third time. The last two times we were here were awesome! We are looking forward to kicking some asses again.”

Recorded at Gernhart Studios with producer Martin Buchwalter, "Crógacht" delivers the most powerful candy for the ears. But the eyes and mind will also be pleased, as famous Belgian graphic artist Kris Verwimp is responsible not only for the magnificent artwork in the digipack and 16-page booklet, but also for the lyrics of this fascinating concept album. "Crógacht", meaning bravery, is based in its entirety on one of the most dramatic tales in Irish mythology. It tells the story of the hero Cuchulainn’s epic journey to the Isle of Skye, where he seeks to learn the arts of war from the Scythian warrior woman Scáthach. The decisions he then has to make set the events in motion that will lead up to his son Conlaoch’s tragic fate...

Katagory V - New Clips Posted
Added Tuesday, February 9 by EvilG
Katagory V has announced the working title for their next album, and has posted several short clips of demo songs and a personal video message online.

Commented bassist/songwriter and founding member Dustin Mitchell, "Things are picking up rather quickly in the Katagory V camp. We are currently looking at the beginning of April to officially start tracking album #5, which is running under the working title of `Resurrect the Insurgence'. Yes, we are sticking with the rebellious theme again, as well as a play on words concerning the fantastic new line up we have now.

"As promised, we have finally posted on our official website and MySpace page, a few short clips of songs that were recorded during our pre-production sessions a few months back, as well as a personal video message from myself introducing these clips. These are just the demos of course, but this is the first glimpse of new material in almost three years! I know it's not much, but this is just proof that progress is being made, and that we are getting much closer to having a new album in the bag. We are putting these songs up as a huge THANK YOU to those that have supported us over the last 10 years, so we hope you enjoy them."

You can view the personal message and demo clips at this location: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGWAhND6BSA

THERION: NEW ALBUM TITLE ANNOUNCED
Added Monday, February 8 by EvilG
Christofer Johnsson, mastermind for Swedish progressive metal experimentalists THERION, has posted the following update on the band’s official webpage:

“I'm happy to announce that THERION are now entering the later phases of the recording of the new album, which will be mixed at the legendary Polar Studios in Stockholm. The album title will be Sitra Ahra. 13 songs are being recorded, but it is at this moment not certain which, or if all, of those will end up on the actual record.”

About the upcoming Sitra Ahra material, "Expect something spectacular, even by THERION's standards!"

Vocalist Thomas Vikström (ex-CANDLEMASS) became a permanent member of the band in May 2009. Stated Johnsson: "Thomas is, besides being a very warm and nice person, an incredibly talented singer and songwriter. And while also being a classically trained tenor, he simply fits perfectly in the band."

THERION’s current line up includes drummer Johan Koleberg (ANIMAL, ZAN CLAN, LION'S SHARE) and bassist Nalle "Grizzly" Påhlsson (TREAT, ZAN CLAN, VINDICTIV).

DRAGONFORCE 1st Two Albums Re-issued on February 23rd
Added Monday, February 8 by EvilG
DRAGONFORCE 1st Two Albums – Valley of the Damned & Sonic Firestorm will be re-issued on February 23rd via Spinefarm Records. Both titles will now be available with updated packaging and bonus audio/DVD content, some of it exclusive to these releases.

Formed in 1999, Dragonforce issued their Valley of the Damned debut in 2003 – an impressive nine-track showcase for their accomplished power metal forays. Containing a host of songs that still rank amongst the most popular of their output, the likes of ‘Black Fire’, ‘Evening Star’ and the title track itself, ‘VOTD’ has now been Remixed and Remastered to allow every aspect of the recordings to make maximum impact…

“Fans who have heard the original mixes many times might find that the songs sound a bit different now,” observes guitarist Herman Li, “but that’s how we always wanted the original songs to sound. We just didn’t have the time back then to make everything sound the way we wanted.”

The studio track, ‘Where Dragons Rule’, has now been added to the audio side, and there is a bonus DVD featuring never-before-seen live footage (‘Valley of the Damned’, filmed in Japan), behind-the-scenes material (also from Japan), video commentaries, plus in-studio interviews and clips (shot in Denmark & the UK), all of it lovingly assembled by Li himself.

2004 saw the release of the follow-up album, Sonic Firestorm, which gave the band the chance to hone their skills and push their fast-lane tales of fantasy to a whole new level. They were happy with ‘Sonic…’ at the time and remain so to this day, which is why the mixing and the mastering have been left just as they are; however, the packaging has been upgraded, an extra track added (‘Cry of the Brave’ – a song the group felt uncomfortable taking off first time around), and – as with ‘Valley…’ – a bonus DVD added, this one featuring live footage from Japan (‘Fury of the Storm’), video commentaries plus freshly recorded interviews with the band members themselves.

As a way of celebrating the recordings that effectively launched DF’s international career, both re-issued albums will be included in a limited edition package along with exclusive band merchandise and various exclusive collectible items.

MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine - Memoir Pre-Order Available
Added Monday, February 8 by EvilG
MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine - Wake Up Dead: A Heavy Metal Memoir Pre-Order Available!

MEGADETH founder Dave Mustaine is set to release his autobiography, Wake Up Dead: A Heavy Metal Memoir, on April 13th via publisher It Books/Harper Collins. The 368-page hardcover book weighs 1.1 pounds and is 9 x 6 x 1.2 inches. An Amazon.com pre-order sale is available now.

Wake Up Dead: A Heavy Metal Memoir was co-written by Larry Layden, a freelance magazine writer and the author of several books, including The Last Great Fight, about the legendary 1990 boxing match between James ‘Buster’ Douglas and Mike Tyson.

In Wake Up Dead: A Heavy Metal Memoir, Mustaine talks about how former bassist Dave Ellefson put the brakes on the band’s forward momentum right when Megadeth were at their prime.

“You know, we canceled seven Monsters of Rock shows in soccer stadiums. Why? Because Dave Ellefson ran out of heroin,” Mustaine says. “When I ran out, I would tough it out. I’d be sick for a couple days, I’d drink some Jack Daniels and I’d be over it. He came up with some excuse that he sprained his wrist in the shower and the tour ended. So did our run for a long time. We took the gnarliest hit to our credibility.”

Another section of the book reveals how Mustaine practiced black magic as a teenager, and how the experience - which inspired the 1986 song ‘The Conjuring’ - affected his life for years after.

“I put two hexes on people, and they both worked and the result was just what I was asking for,” he explains. “Now, it took forever to get that Satanic depression off of me because it’s just like playing with a Ouija board. You open the doorway to the dark side, and spirits come through. It took almost 20 years to get rid of that Satanic depression. I did it when I was 15, and I don’t think I got free of it until I was in my mid 30s. You ask yourself, ‘How is it possible that this is happening to me?’ Well, because you flirted with the devil and you put a hex on somebody and you put another hex on somebody, and, well, you owe him. And that’s why I have a problem playing ‘The Conjuring’ today.

The former Twisted Tower Dire singer dies
Added Monday, February 8 by Arto
Anthony S. Taylor of Naples was driving a 1996 Harley Davidson east on Nighthawk Drive approaching the end of the road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Due to his speed, reports said Taylor applied the brakes and lost control of the bike, causing it to overturn on its left side and slide about 45 feet.

The Harley then struck a curb with its front wheel, flew into the air and hit a palm tree ejecting Taylor, reports said. The bike overturned a few more times before coming to rest on the shoulder.

Taylor, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, where he was pronounced dead. Tests to determine if the crash was alcohol-related are pending, according to a report.

Just after midnight on Saturday, Wayne P. Hull, 25, of LaBelle, was killed when he lost control of his pickup on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Estero. Reports say Hull had just fled from another crash, and was driving in an erratic, and possibly impaired manner.

Just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, 76-year-old Dorothy McMillan Weeks of Naples was killed as she crossed Manatee Road on foot in East Naples. The Highway Patrol reported that 25-year-old Mateo Trejo Lora Jr., also of Naples, backed a 2003 Dodge pickup into Weeks as he attempted to turn around near Beverly Drive.

The crash was not alcohol-related, the Highway Patrol reported, and Lora was not charged with a crime.

Added Sunday, February 7 by EvilG
“Of Night and Silence,” the new music video from Los Angeles-based black metallers SOTHIS, can be viewed below. The video was shot in Los Angeles with Csaba Fikker as Director of Photography and was directed and edited by the band’s vocalist Drogoth, who also handled all of the visual effects.

“Of Night and Silence” is the opening track of SOTHIS’ Candlelight-released debut album De Oppresso Liber which was tracked in Los Angeles and mixed by King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRocque at Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden.

I came up with the concept for the 'Of Night and Silence' video because I felt that this song had great energy and perfect pacing for this type of concept. “

New Jersey metallers VTT confirms W.A.S.P. gig in March, preps summer U.S. tour

New Jersey’s VTT is proud to announce a confirmed March 12 show in the band’s home state of New Jersey alongside legendary American metal band W.A.S.P. on their headlining trek. In addition to the high-profile gig at Sayreville’s Starland Ballroom, two New York shows are also lined up, Feb. 10 and March 27, respectively. Plans are also underway for a tour of greater America later this year, most likely this summer; details will be available on that trek shortly.

In the meantime VTT will continue playing in and around the Northeastern US, continuing to support its third album, ‘Symptoms Of Sin,’ an eight-track effort of driven alt-metal produced by friend and Biohazard/Suicide City vocalist-guitarist Billy Graziadei at Underground Sound Studios (Sick Of It All, Life Of Agony, Pantera). Several tracks from ‘Symptoms of Sin’ are now online at the band's MySpace page. The band’s latest music video, for ‘Symptoms’ lead track "The Victim" is also online – and currently featured at Ultimate-Guitar.com.

VTT previously released ‘Alone In Pain,’ in 2007, and 2005’s ‘Mandala’ under the VooDoo Terror Tribe moniker, but ‘Symptoms Of Sin’ marks the debut of the shorter, acronym name. “The acronym better represents our new approach, and is iconic in its own way,” guitarist Emir Erkal recently stated in an interview. “While in a way we’re a tribe, the term ‘terror’ doesn’t usually apply.” ‘Symptoms Of Sin’ also sees the recording debut of new VTT vocalist Gil PZ, a Texas native who recently relocated to the band’s New Jersey headquarters

3/12 Sayreville, NJ – Starland Ballroom (with W.A.S.P.)

SOMETHING TO BURN ANNOUNCE SPRING TOUR DATES
Added Friday, February 5 by EvilG
SOMETHING TO BURN ANNOUNCE SPRING TOUR DATES WITH FAIR TO MIDLAND AND KARNIVOOL

DEBUT ALBUM “TRANSITIONS” AVAILABLE NOW

September 2009 saw the release of SOMETHING TO BURN’S critically acclaimed debut album “Transitions” on Soft Drive Records, the record label founded by Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott Weiland. After playing a handful of shows last year with Stone Temple Pilots and some successful headlining shows of their own, SOMETHING TO BURN are gearing up to hit the road this spring with Fair to Midland and Karnivool. The tour starts March 23rd in San Antonio, TX and wraps up August 14th in Denver, CO.

Lead singer Greg Wayne, had the following to say about the upcoming tour: “Imagine a caged tiger...pacing back & forth...aching to get back out into the wild...dying to do what it was put on this earth to do. Well, SOMETHING TO BURN is that tiger and we are finally being set free this spring. I'd do everything I could to catch one of these shows if I were you...just sayin”

SOMETHING TO BURN – Norman (guitar), Greg Wayne (front man), and brothers Shawn (drums) and Jeff (bass) Ballard – have emerged from a pool of influences a lot deeper than your typical I-Pod shuffle button. They’ve been raised on music, not the radio, and they know how they want music to sound… And more importantly, they know how they want music to feel. From the classic rock upbringing of the Ballard twins-whose musical tastes were shaped by their seven older brothers and sisters, to Norman’s guitar god meets rhythm and blues fusion, and to the Maynard James Keenan meets Ray Charles vocal colors of Wayne, it’s all about what happens when their chemical backgrounds blend.

The music of SOMETHING TO BURN resurrects what we've been missing from our musical past, while forging boldly ahead into the future, and serves as the perfect soundtrack for the party that bridges the two. SOMETHING TO BURN bridges the gap between rock and roll’s heady past and its uncertain future on their debut album “Transitions”

All I have to say is this fucking video better come out sweet or I m kicking the directors ass haha! I think when it s done everyone will like how it turned out. Jason & Emmitt from Vision4Films are pros at what they do, we can t say thank you enough. We look forward to seeing everyone on the upcoming Spring tour w/ Kreator and Voivod!"

Derelict To Support Martyr In Montreal Feb 14th
Added Friday, February 5 by EvilG
New Album "Unspoken Words" In Stores Now....

Montreal based Derelict have been added as direct support to Quebec metal legends Martyr’s upcoming show February 14th, 2010 at Foufounes Électriques in Montreal, Quebec. Derelict is currently touring in support of their recently released new album “Unspoken Words”, which was released by Year of the Sun Records.

"We couldn't be happier about playing with Martyr! They are one of our main influences, in terms of songwriting, technicality, stage presence and their all around live show,” commented Derelict’s Eric Burnet. “Martyr not only raised the bar for death metal bands in Quebec, but the Canadian metal scene as a whole. Simply put Martyr are musical masters, and playing with these guys will be an absolute career highlight for us thus far."

Derelict’s “Unspoken Words” was recorded in the metal Mecca of Canada: Montreal, Quebec under the watchful eye of Cryptopsy guitarist Chris Donaldson (The Agonist, Cryptopsy). Their brand of metallic brutality and schizophrenic musical changes has drawn comparisons to Strapping Young Lad and the legendary Death. Derelict’s video for the track “Machete” can be viewed online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93oc3CbRuMA

The 2nd prize winner will take home a Krank Distortus Maximus guitar pedal, band t-shirt, and a signed copy of their debut cd, Dark Devotion. Razer, working alongside 116 Productions producers Chuck Alkazian and Matt Novesky, has recently released their latest full-length effort “Dark Devotion”. Bassist Chris Catero, guitarist Paul Sullivan and drummer Eric Bongiorno – formerly of Metal Blade Records artist Wardog - solidified Razer with the addition of guitarist Jeromy Graves and the commanding vocals of frontman Chris Powers. Their songs are a combination of muscular and heavy riffs, tight arrangements, evolved musical playing and true pop sensibilities, making for a unique blend that appeals to both the average radio listener and the most avid pit mosher.

The band’s heavy sound, a combination of exceptionally strong songwriting and Power’s powerhouse vocals, has garnered attention nationwide, resulting in Powers being selected by “Guitar Hero” video game song producer Steve Ouimette to sing on the ending track “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” on “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock”. Their single “Superpaun” was featured in Disc Maker’s instructional DVD “Achieving Success with Your Music: Hard-Hitting Tips on Marketing, A&R, Record Labels and Increasing the Income You Make with Music”. Floor Jansen Video From REVAMP Vocal Recording Sessions
Added Thursday, February 4 by EvilG
Ex-AFTER FOREVER Vocalist Floor Jansen Posted Video Footage From REVAMP Vocal Recording Sessions

Ex-AFTER FOREVER vocalist Floor Jansen has footage from the vocal recording session for her forthcoming REVAMP debut. Check it out below. She recently posted a short pre-production audio sample from ReVamp's forthcoming debut online. Go to http://www.revampmusic.com/ and click on "Media" to check it out.

Jansen comments: "We know you have waiting with great patience for some music. Hereby a short part of our song 'Head Up High'. Do realize this is pre-productional material, you hear a drum computer and home recorded bass, guitar, keyboards and vocals. We did mix it so it sounds ok enough, but it's not the quality the album will have! Let us know what you think!"

The songs were written and recorded with guitarist Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC., ENEMIES OF THE SUN) and keyboardist Joost van den Broek (ex-AFTER FOREVER, STAR ONE).

Following is the official ReVamp bio:

"After the break of After Forever, singer Floor Jansen soon decided she wanted to start over and present a new band to the public as soon as possible. To accomplish this she joined forces with two additional songwriters to first compose, then record an album. A live band is soon to be formed after completion, which will get her back on stage where she belongs!

The first composer to join this new collaboration was soon found when Waldemar Sorychta contacted her to inquire about her current activities and potential future cooperation. Being a fan of Grip Inc. this idea of working with Waldemar was a big honor and a first step in creating a sound! Waldemar’s unique style combined with his experience as songwriter/producer made her dream come closer to reality.

The second composer was found in After Forever colleague Joost van den Broek. Asking Joost to join seemed logical because of his great keyboards and arrangements, and therefore his potentially valuable contribution. Despite his busy schedule, he wanted to join and get started immediately. With him on board the songwriting team was complete!

The ReVamp sound will become a unique blend of the personal style we will recognize from these musicians. Combining these individual sounds in one album promises to result in heavy and very metal!

Songs are currently being written and we will soon upload some short samples!"

Halcyon Way complete tracking for new album Atlanta
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
Progressive metal band Halcyon Way has completed the tracking for their new CD, to be released late Spring by Nightmare Records.

The album was produced by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Svartsot) and guitarist Jon Bodan. Drums were engineered by Mike Froedge (doubleDrive, Bloodsimple, Speed X) at Open Sky Studios in Atlanta. Lammert is mixing the album at his studio, LSD-Tonstudio in Germany. The new release is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut by the band, A Manifesto For Domination. It features the debut of new vocalist Steve Braun (Ashent, Siloam), as well as a guest appearance by Pamela Moore of Queensryche fame. “We’re incredibly excited about the new material,” said guitarist Jon Bodan. “This album is a quantum leap forward for Halcyon Way – the material is both heavier and more aggressive, but it also is far catchier and more melodic at the same time than Manifesto. The guys in the band all stepped their in dividual games up, and the material is better for it. Lasse did a great job on the production, and we expect the mixdown and mastering process to be completed by the end of February.”

Halcyon Way has appeared live with many bands such as Helloween, Strapping Young Lad, TYR, Kamelot, Symphony X, Doro Pesch, Cathedral, Virgin Black, Samael, Vicious Rumors, Seven Witches, and many others. In addition they have appeared at ProgPower USA on two occasions, and at Rocklahoma 2008 and 2009.

WILDESTARR - OFFER SMASHING INTRODUCTION
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
WILDESTARR OFFER SMASHING INTRODUCTION WITH FIRST-EVER VIDEO, ‘ARRIVAL’

You only get one chance to make a first impression, and the fast-rising metallic duo, WildeStarr, are certainly off to a great start with their recently released clip for the song “Arrival.”

The video is a visually stunning sci-fi work of art combining dark elements of Blade Runner, Batman, The Outer Limits, and classic film noir.

The dramatic visuals are a perfect compliment to the power and intensity of WildeStarr's headbanging fury - and metalheads will soon get the opportunity to check out this striking clip.

WildeStarr's Incredible symphonic melodic metal blends new and old influences to create a unique and original sound.

Comprised of guitarist Dave Starr (who originally came to the attention of metalheads as the bassist for such acts as Vicious Rumors and Chastain) and singer London Wilde (who re-defines female-fronted metal), the group’s debut album, also titled ‘Arrival,’ was just issued on Furnace Maximus Records, and has racked up some impressive accolades.

Just a few of the many comments from the metal community regarding WildeStarr....

Michael Fischer from www.knac.com says, "WildeStarr ‘Arrival’ is a progressive rock masterpiece! Hands down this is the best record of 2009!”

www.whiplash.net says, "WildeStarr ‘Arrival’ has such power that this disc has already been considered by many as the best debut of 2009. And this writer fully agrees!"

www.concreteweb.be adds, "With WildeStarr ‘Arrival,’ you get a truly powerful album which will be instantly liked, nay loved by most power metal fans, and will probably haul over most female-fronted band-haters to the ‘other side’ as well!"

UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore says: "Dave and London open up a big ole can of melodic heavy metal whoop ass on this one. At times the tunes remind me a little of Dream Theater. This CD definitely rocks heavily!" And now with their new video clip for “Arrival,” the duo are geared up to pick up more fans worldwide.

EVILE #3 ON THIS WEEK'S SIRIUS XM LIQUID METAL SPIN CHART
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
British thrashers, EVILE are making their presence felt on Sirius XM Satellite Radio's Liquid Metal. The band came in at #3 on this weeks playlist with their cover of PANTERA's "Cemetery Gates." Originally recorded for Metal Hammer's Dimebag Darrell tribute CD, the track has taken on a new life as both a rousing rendition by the UK's preeminent thrash act and as the final recording of the band's late bassist, Mike Alexander. Rising out from lower spots on Liquid Metal's weekly playlist, this exclusive, non-album UK/Europe-only compilation track would not have been able to achieve this high position without the help of the fans and the Liquid Metal staff who saw fit that EVILE's take on the classic PANTERA track was a fitting tribute to 2 men who lived and died by he avy metal.

Frontiers Records Feb 2010 Update
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
TOBY HITCHCOCK

Erik Martensson (ECLIPSE, W.E.T) has been busy writing songs for the first solo album of the fantastic American vocalist Toby Hitchcock. Toby has been singing on three studio and one live album with Pride Of Lions, the band put together by Jim Peterik: founding member of the legendary AOR band Survivor. The whole album will be produced at Martensson’s Blowout Productions Studios in Sweden. Musically will explore some heavier and more contemporary material for Toby, but will still keep some incredible melodies very close to the most recent Journey sound. You can expect a true Melodic Rock gem for the second half of 2010.

THE MAGNIFICENT

CIRCUS MAXIMUS singer extraordinaire Michael Eriksen and finnish producer/guitarist Torsti Spoof (LEVERAGE) have decided to join forces together in a new band project under “The Magnificent” monicker. Songwriting is well underway and sees contributions also from Pekka Heino (BROTHER FIRETRIBE, LEVERAGE), Tomppa Nikulainen (BROTHER FIRETRIBE), Tuomas Heikkinen (LEVERAGE) and Sami Hyde and others. Soundwise the album will sound like a cross between the heavier approach of Leverage with the hooks and melodies of Brother Firetribe. The recording will be completed during the winter, with Frontiers looking to release the debut album after the summer 2010.

OUTLOUD

Outloud announce the release of their second video clip “Tonite” (www.youtube.com/frontiersrecords), which was directed by Bob Katsionis for the Progressive Vision Group.

Outloud will soon announce their touring schedule for 2010 and plans for their second album. Their highly acclaimed first CD and video clip of their hit single “We Run” was released by Frontiers Records on August 28th in Europe, September 15th in North America and September 30th in Japan and has received outstanding reviews from the international press and fans. CARNIFEX: HELL CHOSE ME
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
Taking a darker and more blasphemous approach to their already visceral sound, Carnifex will unleash Hell Chose Me on February 16, 2010. Blood curdling screams, guttural growls, double bass fury, and razor-sharp guitar riffs make for sinister and brutal work.

As the follow-up to 2008’s death metal masterpiece The Diseased and The Poisoned, Carnifex’s third album takes aggression to the next level. Influenced by the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, and The Black Dahlia Murder, this San Diego quintet really knows how to bring the brutality. Growing in notoriety, Carnifex has been featured in Kerrang, Outburn, and Revolver magazines.

“From when we started to now, a lot has changed. The progression we’ve gone through is staggering. With the confidence we have in this record, we know we will be making new fans. If anybody is expecting Carnifex to lighten it up, better luck next time. Dark, sick, painful – that’s the concept of this album lyrically, and the music brings all of that emotion and puts it right inside your head.” – Vocalist Scott Lewis

Soon to return from the Bonecrusher Fest tour in Europe, Carnifex will begin to annihilate the masses in San Diego, California on March 5 on the Atticus Metal Tour. Join the band for an exclusive Hot Topic meet and greet on February 16 at 5:00 PM at the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside. Preorder the new CD or any Carnifex t-shirt at this location and get a wristband that guarantees the opportunity to meet the band!

SHADOW GALLERY PREMIERE “GOLD DUST” VIDEO-CLIP
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
American progressive metal giants SHADOW GALLERY are premiering their new video for "Gold Dust" (in its radio edit version) today on the InsideOut Music Youtube channel. The song comes from their new album Digital Ghosts, released October 26th, 2009 via InsideOutMusic in Europe, which features the line-up of Brendt Allman, Carl Cadden-James, Gary Wehrkamp, Joe Nevolo and new addition Brian Ashland. The album shows the group focus their powerful energies on creating a seamless blend of progressive, metal, and symphonic rock. The clip includes both live and location footage and features a cameo by Will Smith Sr. father of movie actor Will Smith. The video, which was filmed by Rick Berk and directed by SHADOW GALLERY bassist Carl Cadden-James, marked an ambitious step into exciting uncharted waters for the band and can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M580kCiIh2M

"We are very excited about having done this and are genuinely pleased with the results. We were surrounded by extremely talented people during production and had a blast doing it", states Cadden-James. "The song ‘Gold Dust’ was the perfect vehicle for our first video and I think it's nice to be able to introduce Brian as a vocalist visually beyond his vocal performance on the CD".

The lyrical story is played out by model Heather Anthony and displays a very human side of the band that explores the emotional complexities of both desire and heartache and should resonate with almost anyone who has ever loved. SHADOW GALLERY has transitioned very comfortably from just an aural experience to the visual artistic expression that their music is so well suited.

This news comes on top of their announcement that SHADOW GALLERY will be performing live in concert on the 2010 Triton Power Cruise. It will be the first live performance for the band, where they will join the stage with Evergrey, Jon Oliva's Pain and many more from April 30th - May 3rd, 2010. HE OCEAN announce upcoming album title and track listing
Added Wednesday, February 3 by EvilG
THE OCEAN announce upcoming album title and track listing, reveal details about upcoming 2 albums
The Ocean s upcoming albums are going to be entitled Heliocentric and Anthropocentric. They are due for April and October 2010 releases.

The concept at the base of both albums is a critique of Christianity from different philosophical and personal angles.

While the songs, art and lyrics of Heliocentric tell the story of the rise of the heliocentric world view and its effects on Christian belief from medieval times to Darwin and Dawkins, "Anthropocentric" challenges the views of creationists and other modern fundamentalists who still believe that the earth is at the center of the universe.

The tracklisting of Heliocentric is as follows:

1. Shamayim
2. Firmament
3. The First Commandment of the Luminaries
4. Ptolemy Was Wrong
5. Metaphysics of the Hangman
6. Catharsis of a Heretic
7. Swallowed by the Earth
8. Epiphany
9. The Origin of Species
10. The Origin of God

Musically, Heliocentric covers the largest range of dynamics and styles to date: "There are a few really calm songs with mainly piano and vocals, as well as some crushing heavy tunes. There is a very special atmosphere to it that pervades the album", comments guitarist Jonathan Nido.

"Our new vocalist Loic Rossetti has immensely widenened the musical spectrum of this band and there are some songs on the album that even those people who have conceived of this band as being unpredictable and daring would have never imagined", adds Robin Staps. "But this is exactly what makes it a 150% The Ocean album".

Heliocentric" continues where the Proterozoic half of the Precambrian album left off, with dense, epic songs and big orchestrations. Anthropocentric is going to be a bit more straight forward rocking and technical, whilst tapping the full dynamic range from acoustic pieces to eclectic heaviness as well.

The albums were mainly recorded in the mountainous isolation of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the highest city of Europe. The band decided to record and mix the album with the band's house sound engineer Julien Fehlmann: "We wanted to be in control of every single detail, and we have an amazing studio at hand here. Soundwise this is by far the best-sounding album we have done to date".

The lyrics and snippets of every song of the album can be previewed at:

Mortal Sin's updates : Mick Sultana leaves the band
Added Wednesday, February 3 by Arto
Sorry I haven't been up here in a while
Category: Friends
To all our fans,

Sorry I have not been on here in a while, it's been a busy couple of months since we got back from our South American tour, which was very satisfying but incredibly hard. Many thanks to all the metalheads who came to our shows, you made us feel very welcome and supported our music way more than we could have ever imagined. Thank you. To all the organisers, promoters and townfolk, we really appreciate all the work you put into making the tour a success for Mortal Sin. We certainly hope we can make our way back to your beautiful countries again sometime soon!

2010 arrived and Mortal Sin decided it was about fucking time we got our arses into gear and started writing some songs for a new album. We are notoriously slow writers, but many of you who may have heard the new song "Deny" that we have been road testing at our shows, will agree that we could be onto something special here. Like many thrash bands we feel strongly about our thrash roots and want to create an album of pure thrash. If we could combine Kreator's "Hordes of Chaos", Testament's "Formation of the Damnation" and Overkill's newie "Ironbound" into a huge melting pot, that would be the kind of album we wanna make!!

Unfortunately though our great friend and Maestro guitarist Mick Sultana has decided to call it a day, citing personal reasons for his decision to leave the band. We love you like a brother Mick and we've had some awesome shows with you, we wish you the best for whatever you choose to do. Your songs will be in the heads of our fans for a long long time to come. Fucking legend!!

FEAR FACTORY: Video Premiere Online Today
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
The anticipated first video from FEAR FACTORY's forthcoming album Mechanize premieres today at Roxwel.com. “Fear Campaign” was directed by the team of Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci for Boston-based, Emmy nominated Killswitch Productions. The clip was filmed in Los Angeles with additional photographic elements and all post production completed in Boston.

The direct link to view “Fear Campaign” is http://www.roxwel.com/player/fearfactoryfearcampaign.html

In a recent interview with Revolver Magazine McFarland and Pecci revealed details about the video’s themes and creation. “Burton (C. Bell, vocalist) is an extremely creative person and he had some very specific visuals in mind,” says Pecci. “He said that he wanted to bombard the audience with rapid images that supported his lyrics. His direction was ‘fast and intense with loads of subliminal images and symbols.’ With that, Ian and I went to the drawing board and started our normal process of deconstructing an idea and rebuilding it from the ground up.”

“Our goal was to make a video that was inspired by all those really cool stock footage '90s music videos, but rather than using stock footage of the atrocities of the world, we decided to shrink those things down to single images and objects that can be identified as the tools used to create those problems,” adds McFarland.

“Fear Campaign” is the second single from Mechanize. The song impacted metal radio three weeks ago topping FMQB and CMJ’s new artist entries. The song follows the already successful path of “Powershifter,” the first single which has had over 400,000 online plays since its introduction in mid-November. Together both singles have cemented FEAR FACTORY in the Top 10 of metal radio airplay long before Mechanize impacts as a full album this coming week, simultaneous with the album’s February 9 release date. Key radio stations, including Northern New Jersey’s WSOU, Chicago’s Rebel Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio are already showing substantial support of the record.

Mechanize features the highly reported reconciliation of vocalist Burton C. Bell with original guitarist Dino Cazares. Along with bassist Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad) and journeyman drummer Gene Hoglan (Dethlok, Strapping Young Lad), the album also welcomes back the involvement of keyboardist/producer Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly). BraveWords.com says, “combining just the right elements of their own past, present and future, with Mechanize, FEAR FACTORY has achieved instant excitement and an immediate adrenaline boost. In a word: essential.”

Austin-based Roxwel.com runs the Internet’s leading Rock, Metal and Indie music video site for today’s hottest major-label and independent artists. In addition to music videos, Roxwel boasts an extensive catalog of original productions featuring local and touring artists, live performances and interviews, along with coverage of several nationally renowned music festivals.

Killswitch Productions is owned by director/producer Ian McFarland. McFarland with partner Mike Pecci have directed videos for Meshuggah, Agnostic Front, Sick of It All, All That Remains and God Forbid. Prior to filming “Fear Campaign,” Killswitch Productions completed work on Meshuggah’s concert film, Alive.

Threshold release Supermassive Black Hole as single
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
Threshold's cover of the Muse song Supermassive Black Hole is out now as a digital single. The b-side is Slipstream (vocoder version).

Commented Threshold keyboard player Richard West: "Supermassive Black Hole was such a huge hit for Muse, it's become a modern classic and it's still in the top ten of the U.K. rock charts after 150 weeks! I hope Muse enjoy Threshold's reworking of their song; we've stayed fairly true to the original but with some added Threshold heaviness."

The cover version was originally released as a bonus track on the special edition digipack version of Dead Reckoning, but has only now been made available as a full digital release.

ASTRIAAL - ANATOMY OF THE INFINITE
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
After a nigh on seven year recording silence ASTRIAAL are now poised to return with their sophomore album entitled 'Anatomy of the Infinite'. This next opus is due to be released in the Autumn of 2010 for the southern equatorial territories via Australian label Obsidian Records. Sounding strikingly different to their previous debut full length 'Renascent Misanthropy' in production, tone and song structure. Recorded at various studios within Australia and mixed at Mølla Lydstudio [Norway] with Knut Magne Valle [Arcturus], 'Anatomy of the Infinite' resonates with a more primeval, organic musicality throughout. Featuring eight tracks comprising of haunting and dissonant passages interwoven with moments of epic black metal grandeur, 'Anatomy of the Infinite' will indeed satiate the needs of those ardent adherents that have been anticipating the next chapter in the ASTRIAAL sonic landscape. The reprisal looms...

Anatomy of the Infinite Tracklist:

01. Blessed Are The Dead
02. Visceral Incarnate
03. 'Neath The Bones Of Salvation
04. Ad Interim
05. The Scars Of Aberration
06. Foundations In Flesh
07. Relinquishment Of The Stars
08. ...For The Day Will Come

Grave digger - SONGWRITING......
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
"Hi everybody,

last weekend, we've been at the TLC studio, Cologne /Pulheim to put down the first song ideas of the upcoming album. Holy shit, what a blast! Although we only got the first compositions on the list, you can imagine the direction of the songs. Let's call it TYPICAL GRAVE DIGGER!

Once again you'll get the full monty, but spiced with some tiny little finesse. After all that stress within the last year, finally we had the chance to leave the ballast behind and rock it off our chest. Axel and Jens put down some awesome riff ideas, which will be hammered to real hot steel within the next 3 months.

At the middle of May, we'll be at the Principal studio once again, let the Resetti Brothers (never change a winning team) produce the new album.

All you fans out there will get what you want us to do and for what you loved and kept faith with us.

According to the motto: "THE CLANS WILL RISE AGAIN"

ORDER OF ENNEAD TO FILM MUSIC VIDEO
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
Floridian extreme metallers, ORDER OF ENNEAD will film a new music video during the middle of this month for "The Concept of Our Existence," the ripping opening track off of their upcoming sophomore release, AN EXAMINATION OF BEING. The video plans to match the great intensity and large complexities of the song. Considering that ORDER OF ENNEAD is one of the deepest and most thoughtful metal acts around, that is no easy task. Perhaps that is why vocalist/guitarist, Kevin Quirion and his Largo, FL-based company, Advanced Media will handle all directorial and production duties for the shoot. Knowing the great care that Quirion takes with his work, the video will undoubtedly let the viewer experience the song on a much heightened level - the way it was meant to be experienced.

Kevin Quirion remarks on "The Concept of Our Extinction:"

"Can't wait to get started on the filming of our first video. I've been working on a very detailed treatment for the video this past week. The idea of the song and video is man's struggle to understand his own existence and the eventual acceptance of mortality. This is an on going lyrical theme throughout the album. We're going capture this visually and make it really special."

ORDER OF ENNEAD recently finished recording their next album, AN EXAMINATION OF BEING with producer, Mark Lewis (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, ALL THAT REMAINS) at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, FL. The album is due for release on April 20th.

Here is the track listing for AN EXAMINATION OF BEING:

01. The Concept of Our Extinction
02. The Scriptures of Purification
03. Lies Upon the Lips of Judas
04. This Mortal Journey
05. ...In the Mirror
06. An Examination of Being
07. Conduits to Eternity
08. A Portal to Rapture
09. A Betrayal of Self

ORDER OF ENNEAD lead guitarist John Li comments: "So what can I say about this new album? In my honest opinion, it's much heavier and darker than our self-titled debut, more cohesive, thematic, melodic, but not completely over the top. In a nutshell, the works. To me, the songs sound totally different than the demos and I was blown away after the songs began to take form. They sound BIG."

THE BINARY CODE Check In From the Road
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
New Jersey progressive death metal outfit THE BINARY CODE are currently pounding the pavement with Relapse tech-thrashers Revocation and French experimentalists Hypno5e on the 2010 Metal As Art Tour, and took some time out of their hectic schedule to check in from the road.

Guitarist Jesse Zuretti writes,

“We've just rounded the turnpoint to begin our trek back east! From the very start of tour we knew we were going to have a good time.

As I'm sure some of you may have heard, we were in a pretty bad van accident just a few days into the tour. The guy whom hit us was found responsible in full for the accident, and rightfully so. Nevertheless, our drummer, Umar (along with our wizardly manager), pulled it together and found a way for us to continue the tour in a minivan rental. If I might add, we also would've been homebound if it weren't for Hypno5e and Revocation sharing gear and stow space.

So, we get asked, " What were your favorite places to play so far?". I think we can all attest to Chicago, IL, Austin, TX, San Francisco, CA, and Seattle, WA being extraordinarily fun to play and visit. Brett (bass) was stoked on the miniature halfpipe at the Boise, ID venue, Gustos. Personally, I was most excited for Kuma’s Corner in Chicago. I had the Goblin Cock burger, which was outrageous.

Aside from a few setbacks with van issues, local inhabitants incoherently trying to fight nearly a dozen of us for no apparent reason, and crazy weather/terrain, we've had more than a blast. We've been very surprised at the amount of people whom bought the album coming out to see us.

We definitely feel very close to the guys in Revocation and Hypno5e at this point. We're all having the time of our lives playing music every night to people all across the country. We definitely foresee pursuing this as far as we can. This became evident when we realized we have less than two weeks until we're home, and we don't want to be back yet!

Come out and rage with us!”

Check out the remaining tour dates for the Metal As Art Tour below, and be sure to stop by the official Metal As Art MySpace page http://myspace.com/metalasart for more info!

02/03 - Nashville, TN - The Muse

02/04 - Cincinnati, OH - Dirty Jacks

02/05 - Baltimore, MD - Otto Bar

02/06 - Trenton, NJ - The Championship

02/07 – Boston, MA – Unit II (w/Revocation, Hypno5e, Ramming Speed)

THE BINARY CODE has taken its jaw-dropping live show on the road in support of Between the Buried and Me, Job for a Cowboy, Necrophagist and The Black Dahlia Murder in the past, and plans on hitting the road hard this coming spring and summer. A series of dates have been lined up with New York heavy-hitters Tiger Flowers in May and June, as well as a show supporting recent Roadrunner shredders Mutiny Within on May 15 in Brooklyn, New York.

Leon began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to create his intense sound - from classical, flamenco, electronica, and ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. All of these genres infused to one, Leon has built a cinematic metal fantasia with his music, which has branched out to a comic book series. His main aspirations are bringing stories to life through escapism.

Leon utilizes everyday events and his vivid imagination to drive him to create more avenues for his multimedia enterprise. To prove its tangibility, Leon, who is responsible for the basic concept artwork, storyboards, and character design/creation, has assembled a team of artists through Space Goat Productions, including:
~ Jason Metcalf on pencils and inks, and a driving force behind detailing the Eternal Descent world, who previously worked on The Darkness and Magdelina.
~ David Rivera will begin inking over Jason’s pencils from issue two and beyond, while Javier Tartaglia and Joel Chua, both veterans of many Marvel and DC comics titles, provide stunning colors.

Leon also began his own production company, Incendium Records, to release his first concept album “Losing Faith” and the EP “The Phantom of the Opera.” This fulfilled Leon's dream of having all Eternal Descent media developed with the highest standards under one roof. Leon recently began recording his third CD release with producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, KISS) at the helm.

Fates Warning to Sweden Rock classic "Parallels" lineup
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
Fates Warning, along with Queensrÿche and Dream Theater, are the most important pioneers in the history of prog metal. The band was formed in Hartford, Connecticut in 1983 and has released ten studio albums since 1984. The most successful one is "Parallels" from 1991, recorded by the band's classic line-up: guitarists Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti, bassist Joe DiBiase, drummer Mark Zonder and vocalist Ray Alder. This line-up effectively disbanded in 1996, but will nonetheless be just the one performing at Fates Warning's SRF-debut in 2010. In other words, "Eye to Eye", "Point of View", "We Only Say Goodbye" and the other fan-faves will be performed by all their original creators - no fan of melodic, professional and exciting metal should miss this opportunity.

Cradle To Grave Frontman Rushed To Hospital
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
New CRADLE TO GRAVE Frontman Rushed To Hospital In Critical Condition After Contracting H1N1 Virus....

On January 23rd, 2010 new Cradle To Grave vocalist/bassist Donavan "Demon" Mason was rushed to Vancouver’s UBC Hospital after he was unresponsive to his family attempting to wake him up. Mason is blind and suffers from advanced diabetes, which can cause his immune system to shut down periodically. His family and bandmates suspected that he was just battling a bad case of the flu, but upon arrival at the hospital doctors diagnosed Mason with a severe case of the H1N1 virus. The medical staff at UBC Hospital were able to bring Mason back, but warned family and friends that he had been near death and had they waited a few more hours, the case could have turned tragic. Mason is now recovering at home while Cradle To Grave take a break from recording their upcoming new album.

Vancouver based Cradle To Grave are currently working on their long-awaited, third studio album; the follow-up to 2008’s "Texas Medicine.” The veteran band - which features in its ranks Denis "Sasquatch" Barthe of Aggression and Matt Fowler of Assault/Karrion — just completed pre-production with producer Clay Haluk (Infernal Majesty, Aggression) and have entered Screen Machine Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia. The album is expected to surface later this year through Year of the Sun Records.

"Our goal with this album is to release material as relevant as Venom's “Black Metal” or Voivod’s “War and Pain” albums," commented Barthe. "The pre-production sessions for the new record were awesome," added new Cradle To Grave vocalist/bassist Demon Mason. "It gave us the opportunity to make our material a little bit more in line with what Venom did with “Welcome to Hell” and “Black Metal.” We can't believe how this band sounds now and we are anxious to show it to the world."

TRIPTYKON Announce Worldwide Release Dates
Added Tuesday, February 2 by EvilG
Eparistera Daimones, the forthcoming debut album by Triptykon, the group founded by former Hellhammer/Celtic Frost singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior, is not only a musical leviathan. Remarkably, the album will also feature the epic artwork by renowned Swiss artist H.R. Giger and New York-based surrealist Vincent Castiglia.

In an exceptionally rare gesture, HR Giger has granted Triptykon the use of his dramatic painting "Vlad Tepes" (work no. 412, 200 x 140 cm, acrylic on paper on wood, 1978). It is the artist's first authorized appearance on an album cover in 17 years, and the second time he collaborates with Warrior (following Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therion" album in 1985).

Vincent Castiglia contributes "Triptykon," a specially created portrait of the members of the group, painted in the artist's own blood (86 x 86 cm, blood/iron oxide on archival paper, 2009). As Castiglia aptly put it, the amalgamation of works by HR Giger, Vincent Castiglia, and Triptykon on "Eparistera Daimones" forms a creative triptych in itself.

HR Giger: I am very proud to work with Triptykon. My art hasn't appeared on an album cover for quite some time, and I feel honored to have been approached by Tom about such a collaboration for Triptykon's very first release.

Vincent Castiglia: It's been a tremendous honor to work with both Triptykon and HR Giger on the forthcoming release of, "Eparistera Daimones." It was a project of enormous depth for me, conceptually as well as visually. I think the resonance between Triptykon's music, Giger's art, and my work is extremely powerful, and it coalesces in quite an amazing, and singular way.

Tom Gabriel Warrior: We feel deeply privileged to be able to adorn our very first album with the work of two artists we respect enormously. To us, their astonishing contributions convey significant symbolism both with respect to our personal frame of mind as well as for this particular album and its history.

It is an immense pleasure to be able to work with HR Giger again. He was one of our most significant mentors during the days of Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost, and he is an extraordinary human being and an artist without equal.

Vincent Castiglia has become a close friend in recent years, and we both sensed that the time had come to create something truly unique together. I am infinitely grateful that he has lent us his incredible talent, not least because I know he incorporates as much passion, darkness, and pain into his work as I do, too.

APPEARING ON THE JAGERMEISTER STAGE ALONGSIDE HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL AND WINDS OF PLAGUE

2009 was an amazing year for CHIMAIRA as it saw the release of their latest album The Infection, U.S. tours with Disturbed, Hatebreed, and Trivium as well as a headlining European tour. 2010 started off with CHIMAIRA touring in Australia and New Zealand and they have a tour of the United Kingdom on tap for March. And if that’s not enough for you, the lineup for the 2010 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL has just been released and CHIMAIRA have been tapped to play on the Jagermeister Stage with Hatebreed, Shadows Fall and Winds of Plague.

CHIMAIRA front man Mark Hunter had the following to say about the upcoming festival:

This summer is going to be a blast. In case you haven't heard, we have been added to this years Mayhem Festival! CHIMAIRA love playing the festival circuit and we haven't done so since 2007. So, to say we are ready would be an understatement. The line-up is killer, and filled with our friends and former touring mates, we simply can't wait.

CHIMAIRA exploded onto the Billboard Top 200 charts in 2009 with the debut of their crushing new album, The Infection. The album landed at #30, with over 15,000 units sold. The Infection is the band’s fifth studio album and the follow up to their acclaimed 2007 release, Resurrection¸ which debuted at #42 on Billboard.

ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL pre-sale tickets go on sale April 2 and tickets go on sale to the general public on April 16 at LiveNation.com. Check www.rockstarmayhemfest.com for complete dates and more information.

ASPERA - RIPPLES
Debut album out now!

With their debut album Ripples picking up one positive review after another, ASPERA, the young five-piece melodic progressive metal band from Skien, Norway, have added another song to their MySpace site. Alongside the album's title track, a special radio edit version of the song 'Traces Inside' has now been posted online, a song Atle Pettersen describes as "A very special song to us." When asked to elaborate, the vocalist explains that it was one of the first songs the band wrote for the album. "And it's one of the best, too, in our opinion!" To check out 'Traces Inside', go to www.myspace.com/asperaofficial

'Ripples' is certainly going down a storm in Germany. "If those 5 youngsters keep going on that path they started with, we sure can expect a lot more great stuff in future..." says Metalreviews. In Musicheadquarters' opinion, "We might just witness the beginning of hopefully a big career. They certainly have my blessings, if they keep going with this expressive style...", and for Soundcheck ASPERA are "Melodic prog at it's finest...Absolutely cool prog metal with hit potential."

PAIN OF SALVATION - LINOLEUM EP
New video posted for "Linoleum"

Pain of Salvation have just debuted the new video clip for their song "Linoleum" online.

"Linoleum", directed by Owe Lingwall of Village Road Film (The Rasmus, Amorphis, etc.), is the title track of Pain of Salvation's highly acclaimed "Linoleum EP" MCD released via InsideOutMusic on November 16th, 2009.

Pain of Salvation's frontman Daniel Gildenlöw comments on the video clip as follows: "The recording of the "Linoleum" video was probably one of the toughest work-outs we've been through. We were shooting this insanely physical video for more than twelve hours straight, on little more than adrenaline, coffee and half a pizza. Take after take of having cold water poured over us before thrashing about like crazy. In the morning the damages were substantial both to equipment and bodies, but then again, this band never does things half-ways. No, we always push our engines until they are about to break - and we have tons of fun in the process. :) Enjoy!"

More details on Pain of Salvation's activity and current work on their next studio album Road Salt, which is expected to be released before the Summer via InsideOutMusic, is coming soon!

KAIPA - IN THE WAKE OF EVOLUTION
March 16, 2010 release date

Even after more than 35 years, Kaipa still hold a very special position in the world of progressive rock music. Band mastermind and songwriter Hans Lundin's unusual understanding of melodies, the great qualities of this technically extremely accomplished group, their penchant for diverse stylistic means and timeless influences - all these aspects are focused on their latest album release, In The Wake Of Evolution.

"In The Wake Of Evolution feels like a logical continuation and development of our previous album, Angling Feelings," Lundin points out, stressing his band's folkloristic roots: "Folk influences have always been a part of Kaipa's music, since the very beginning in 1974. At that time, the influences were more like a friend dropping in sporadically to say hello. Now, more than ever, they are an integral part of the compositions."

"Nothing is easy" he says, "the biggest challenge is to find new directions without losing your basic identity. To write and record an album that feels fresh, progressive and includes great melodies and new ideas which still carry that unmistakable Kaipa sound." There can be no doubt that Kaipa's mastermind has been thoroughly successful in achieving this feat.

THE TANGENT
DOWN AND OUT IN PARIS AND LONDON

Down And Out In Paris and London, their latest of five studio releases to date, sees prog rock band THE TANGENT concentrate more than ever before on their artistic expressiveness. "Our new album is a 100 percent musical project. Where the previous album, Not As Good As The Book, was this whole multimedia thing with illustrations and science fiction novel, this one is about five pieces of music on a single CD," keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Andy Tillison points out. "In terms of format, it's more like our very first album, kicking off with a 19-minute piece which I am sure fans of the band's prog stuff are going to like. Hopefully a lot!"

You can check out two video clips featuring songs and footage from the album Down And Out In Paris and London. They can be viewed at the links below:

More gigs will be revealed soon!

Artillery returned on the metal scene in June 2009 with a brand new studio album. New material entitled “When Death Comes” was their first studio release since the 1999’s album “B.A.C.K”!

The band is one of Europe’s earliest exponents of thrash metal and the band’s contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and good melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the Stützer brothers as well as the remarkable vocals from Flemming Rønsdorf serving as highlights. Due to Artillery’s demos being well distributed, the band gained worldwide recognition even before the release of their first official album; and the band’s first three studio albums, “Fear of Tomorrow”, “Terror Squad” and “By Inheritance”, all assumed the status of classics in the thrash genre. However, due to lack of support from labels and internal band disputes, Artillery never really achieved their big breakthrough and thus split up in 1991. In late 1999, Artillery reunited and released the critically acclaimed album “B.A.C.K.”, but they never really took off as a band again. A few live appearances came in the wake of the release, only to be followed by silence. However, in 2008 the classic core of Artillery, consisting of Morten and Michael Stützer as well as Peter Thorslund (bass) and Carsten N. Nielsen (drums) rejoined forces and subsequently employed new vocalist Søren Adamsen, who provided the band with a rejuvenated energy and a musical prowess that was soon witnessed on the live DVD “One Foot in the Grave, The Other One in the Trash”, containing updated versions of classic material.

A new chapter in the life of Artillery begun with their brand new studio album, “When Death Comes”, containing 10 blistering tracks that fill the void between past glory and future splendour. For full details on the album go to: www.metalmind.com.pl
