WINTERSUN: Album Update & Track Listing

May 29th, 2012

Finland´s WINTERSUN have released the following update regarding their long-awaited second album. Vocalist/guitarist Jari Mäenpää recently issued the following statement:

“Hello friends!

Time for some album(s) news. WINTERSUN ‘s Time is going to be two albums, titled TIME I and TIME II. We made this decision simply because of few reasons:

A)     All the 80 minutes of material won´t fit on a regular CD and we didn´t want to cut anything out.

B)      We want you to be able to hear new material sooner and not wait any longer and we want to go on tour sooner.

The music is very full and complex, so listening to this kind of hard listening (not easy listening) material straight for 80 minutes is a bit too much (even for me). Both albums will be approximately nice 40 minunte epic packages of fireworks.

We like the idea of releasing two albums within one year, so the band will stay more visible longer, which is important in these modern times. No more years of silence for us!

We hope you´ll approve our new little plan and support us when the Time comes!

TIME I mix is set to be finished by July, mastered in the beginning of July and released in early fall of 2012! TIME II will be released in 2013. Conception of album artworks, videos, live shows including rehearsals will keep us busy during the Summer and I´ll also continue mixing TIME II meanwhile. We´ll be hopefully posting some videos and teasers during Summer. Alsos some new live show announcements soon, so stay tuned for those!

We can´t wait for you guys to hear the TIME I material and to play it for you live! Have a great Summer!”

TIME I track listing:

1. When Time Fades Away

2. Sons of Winter and Stars

I Rain of Stars

II Surrounded by Darkness

III Journey Inside a Dream

IV Sons of Winter and Stars

3. Land of Snow and Sorrow

4. Darkness and Frost

5. Time

WINTERSUN are confirmed to headline this year´s edition of the so-called HEIDENFEST tour kicking off in October supported by KORPIKLAANI, VARG, TROLLFEST, and KRAMPUS, before they go on touring the world. Further infos, dates and tickets on

KRAMPUS joins Heidenfest 2012

March 17th, 2012

In the last couple of years, the Heidenfest turned out to be a unique and not-to-be-missed tour package when it comes to the biggest names in the field of heathen/viking metal and bands offering you the best in between war anthems and drinking horn frenzy! Which is why the 2012 line up looks like the wet dream of every heathen metal warrior again:

Headlining will be mighty genre legends WINTERSUN from Finland! It took mastermind Jari Mäenpää and his brethren exactly one album to write folk and melodic death metal history: “Wintersun” came out in 2004 and will be followed by a new milestone around the tour.

“We are very excited to announce that we are going to be headlining the 2012 Heidenfest Tour in October. There was some setbacks with the album during the winter (again), but as usual we have managed to ram through them. (Big thanks to our management for helping us through the tough times!). I´ve been mixing my ass off and things are going smooth and steady now and the album will be released late summer. Stay tuned for bigger updates about the album (or should we say “albums”, wink wink!)“ Jari and the Wintersun boys, cheers!

Fellow Finns KORPIKLAANI have an equally impressive fan base to boast and with albums such as “Ukon Wacka” (2011) they deliver the goods in a party-friendly “Pelimanni metal” way! Rising German force VARG on the other hand call their troops to war with some powerful pagan metal tunes while Norwegians TROLLFEST up the ante with a healthy dose of black humour – and supreme folky heaviness! TROLLFEST will be releasing their brand new album “Brumlebassen” on August 24 and VARG will unleash their new beast on October 19, right in time for the HEIDENFEST tour!

Opening act on this tour will be Italian modern folk metal outfit KRAMPUS, who won the Rock The Nation award 2011. KRAMPUS offer an eclectic array of folk sounds with the usage of bagpipes, flutes, whistles, violins, and the Irish Bouzouki partnered with the modern metal sounds of heavy guitars, aggressive vocals, and melodic keyboards. In addition to creating a new breed of sound, KRAMPUS´ focus on their lyrical content while addressing themes such as issues with humanity and nature, and environmental awareness. They´ll be appearing on this years edition of METALCAMP festival in August and the same month they´ll be releasing their long-awaited debut album. Fear the Krampus!

This package already looks flawless – but there are some very special guests yet to be announced! So keep your eyes peeled and check regularly where you can also order your tickets!

HEIDENFEST 2012 – the ultimate party-program with several highlights, new albums, new music which will spice up your misty Autumn and mood! Cheers!

Paganfest UK 2008 – KOKO Camden, London

April 13th, 2008

KOKO Camden, London

April 6, 2008

All live pics and review by HannTu

Appropriately enough, it was clear and slightly snowy the evening of Paganfest, and with a 5pm start, there was ample time for all five bands to show their quality. It was a night for singing, dancing and some rocking heavy metal! As far as I was concerned, this was a perfect night: firstly, the lights were amazing, meaning I captured some great shots and secondly, the bouncers let us stay the entire show in the photo pit. The downside is that I rarely took any notes, so the report will be slightly short on words. But big on pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. Enjoy, as I did.

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival 2005 – Helsinki Finland

August 28th, 2005

The Central Park Of Kaisaniemi ? Helsinki ? Finland
15th ? 17th of July 2005

Pics and reviews by team Finland

What happens in the middle of July in the central park of the summer city of Helsinki every year? Well, what a easy question, the annual Tuska Open Air Metal festival takes place every year at that time. It pulls in over 33.000 metal hearts of all ages and all kinds of persons to spend an unforgettable metallic feast in the heart of Helsinki. As it is said The Gods made heavy metal which has turned out be nothing but right in every aspect as the weather was extremely warm and hot during the whole weekend apart from a few darker clouds having gathered around the area when Dimmu Borgir stepped on the stage and in general the atmosphere was peaceful and bigger problems managed to be avoided, thanks to the common metal spirit of the Finnish die hard metal freaks.

The bill of 2005 didn?t offer any offer so-called any big selling names like Nightwish being one of the headlining acts at Tuska last year, but instead a variety of different metal genres were at present ranging from a hyper-blasting grindcore to a more melancholic Finnish mainstream rock. Having a large range of metal proves Tuska is not limited to one certain metal category as everyone had something to feel, taste and see during the three long days.

The Tuska Open Air festival has reached and gained a lot of positive attention amongst the metal people around the world. There were people having arrived from Russia, Estonia, Sweden, all around Europe and even from some Far East countries. Despite not having a big name, the metal festival was totally sold out and even a few hundred leftover tickets for Friday were sold after all.

As usual it has turned out to be an annual mandatory tradition for having an article of the Tuska festival in Metal-Rules.Com, therefore the Finnish Metal-Rules.Com pain squad spent the whole weekend testifying several acts in action and tried to feel the spirit of Heavy Metal and enjoy the pleasure of the flesh as well during the three insane long days in the beautiful central park of Kaisaniemi and in the heart of Helsinki with several friends as well as everlasting enemies. Enjoy?

Jari from Wintersun

October 2nd, 2004

Here is an interview I did with Jari, the mastermind and leader of the Finnish band/project Wintersun.  The band has just now released their debut album. I asked Jari some questions about the new album and about Wintersun, but I?ve also posed some questions about himself and what he’s been doing until now.
