Whitechapel’s debut full-length album, The Somatic Defilement, is the album that firmly planted the band on an upward trajectory that has carried the band to the upper echelons of modern death metal. The band has taken The Somatic Defilement and placed it in the capable hands of Audiohammer Studios producer Mark Lewis for a complete re-mix and re-master. The results are staggering and give The Somatic Defilementa modern luster up to the standards of the band’s most recent recordings. Fans can listen and pre-order now at metalblade.com/whitechapel.The Somatic Defilement, originally released in 2007, is a concept album about Jack the Ripper’s infamous murders of prostitutes in East London’s Whitechapel district. This 2013 re-release sees the band tasking producer Mark Lewis to painstakingly bring the six year old recording to today’s standard.
The band’s latest effort, the self-titled album that dropped on June 19, 2012 in North America, debuted at #47 on the Top 200 Chart, #10 on the Top Independent Albums Chart, #3 on the Hard Music Albums Chart (Current), #2 on the Hard Music Albums Chart (Core Stores) and #64 on the Top Digital Album Chart.
Whitechapel was one of the most well received albums of 2012, with critical acclaim from some of the most respected music outlets including The New York Times, Alternative Press, Metal Hammer. The album also claimed bragging rights as the iTunes UK Metal Album of the Year for 2012!

Self-titled Fourth Album out June 19th on Metal Blade Records
Today WHITECHAPEL has released the second single from their self-titled fourth album that is due out June 19th via Metal Blade Records. The song entitled “I, Dementia” is being exclusively premiere by Loud Wire. Get a first listen to HERE and be sure to pre-order the album HERE.
WHITECHAPEL filmed a series of videos during the recording process of the new album. The first video in the series provides an in depth look at the drum tracking process for the album and can be viewed HERE. The second installment focuses on the recording of the guitar parts for the new album and is available for viewing HERE. The third video focuses on the vocal tracking process and can be viewed HERE.
Having spent several years lauded as one of the frontrunners in their genre, in 2012 WHITECHAPEL stand as a defining force in contemporary heavy music. Building dramatically on the trademarked bludgeon of their first three releases, with Whitechapel the Tennessean sextet have inarguably delivered their most intense, dynamic, and downright hostile record to date. Drenched in atmospheric darkness, the record is also rife with gripping melodies that drag the listener in to the tumult, willing or otherwise, and across its ten tracks it is infused with an emotional depth that pointedly separates the band from the plethora of two-dimensional mosh-starters that have sprung up in their wake.
The album was engineered and mixed by Mark Lewis (Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver), who also handled production duties alongside the band. The album artwork was created by Aaron Marsh of Forefathers Group with art direction provided by WHITECHAPEL.
The first single from Whitechapel entitled “Hate Creation” is available for streaming exclusively HERE. Check it out and be sure to pre-order your copy of the album. The complete tracklisting is below:

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – January 10, 2011 – Recently Knoxville, TN’s WHITECHAPEL and drummer Kevin Lane mutually decided to go their own ways and the internet is already abuzz with rumors as to the reasons behind the split. Kevin offered the following statement to answer fans questions as to why the drummer and the band parted ways:
“Over the past years I’ve had the experience of a lifetime and gotten to travel the world with not only a great band of musicians but some of my best friends. Unfortunately that time has come to an end. My playing had a falling out over the past year, thus I’ve decided to come home for good and go back to school full time. The past few tours I had the privilege of my good friend Gavin Parsons to fill my shoes and now another phenomenal drummer who I believe will do leaps and bounds of improvement to the band as a whole, Ben Harclerode has moved into the position until the decision for a full time drummer has been made. Thank you to everyone for all of your support.”
Founding member and guitarist Alex Wade adds: “It’s sad to see Kevin go, he was not just a fellow band member, but like a brother to all of us. I think it is honorable of him to step down to better the band. He is still and always will be an amazing drummer and talented musician; I believe it is just time for a new chapter for Whitechapel. That being said we would like to welcome Ben Harclerode (formerly of Knights of the Abyss) to the band to fill the drumming position. In my opinion he is one of the most solid and talented drummers in modern metal and we couldn’t be more excited for him to be playing with us. Ben will be helping us out until we take further measures to decide on a permanent drummer, but that is just something that is not needed right now, nor are we taking submissions. Come welcome Ben on our upcoming headliner and watch him shred his kit!”
Catch Ben Harclerode and the rest of the WHITECHAPEL guys as they tour across the states as headliners on the Welcome to Hell Tour featuring The Acacia Strain, Veil of Maya, Chelsea Grin, and I declare war.

“while there’s a familiar sense of disgust spewed all over this third album, there’s been some evolving back at the deathlab. It’s easy enough to play fast and hard in death metal – easier still to make that all you do, but as Devolver’s ceremonious opener builds intensities, leveling the blows with a calculated malice for maximum damage, the band sound deadlier than ever.” 8/10 Decibel Magazine
“Say what you like about the way death metal has evolved, but to deny that Whitechapel are both insanely heavy and technically dazzling would be churlish petulance. They hinted at this level of bone-powdering brutality on their first two albums, but have slipped into a higher gear for their third, more than justifying their status as one of the few bands snapping at the heels of Job for A Cowboy… overall this is the sound of Whitechapel maturing and realizing their own considerable potential, with much precision, power, and simplicity.” 8/10 Terrorizer Magazine
“The band presents a truly mixed palette with progressive asides, tempered harmonies and arrangements that take surprising yet complimentary avenues… Whitechapel now appear unconcerned with all-out heaviness, in its place they have sampled the breadth of their genre creating a metal record both balanced and deep.” Rock Sound Magazine
“Sharp guitar melodies and serrated hooks augment the brawn without diluting it, and this new side of the band adds a superb twist to their already well-established fury.” 3/4 Kerrang! Magazine
“a sound so thick you could bite into it… Whitechapel are leading the next generation of extreme.” Metal Hammer Magazine
“Every band has their signature album. Slayer has Reign in Blood, Cannibal Corpse has Vile, Pantera had Cowboys from Hell. A New Era of Corruption is Whitechapel’s masterpiece.” 5/5, TheNewReview.net
“A New Era Of Corruption is more complete and more focused… Whitechapel has become the Behemoth of deathcore.” MetalReview.com
“a deadly, lumbering and ultimately trend-free beast” Noisecreep.com
“What Whitechapel will put out this year is nothing short of some of the grimiest metal sludge to ever breach the Billboard chart, a three-guitar wall of sound bolstered by vocalist Phil Bozeman’s rasp.” Albuquerque Journal
“Corruption, venom and hatred. Tons of blastbeats. Stomach-churning guitar riffs. It’s kind of shocking that the new Whitechapel is better than their last, namely because This Is Exile was amazing.” The Hartford Advocate
“there is no getting away from the fact that, as far as modern death metal goes, there are no better exponents of this breakdown laden mayhem than this triple-guitar monster.” Planet-Loud.com
“The band’s new album, A New Era Of Corruption, is eleven songs of being pummeled in the face with an iron pipe.” CraveOnline.com
