UNEARTH: Darkness In The Light

Unearth has launched a new lyric video for one of the most lyrically-inspiring and guitar-shred friendly cuts from their most recent album, Darkness in the Light. The new lyric video for Arise the War Cry can be seen now HERE. Unearth also recently launched a music video for Watch it Burn, which is available HERE.

Unearth recently completed a full European tour in support of Heaven Shall Burn. The Massachusetts natives will have home field advantage this weekend when they play the 2012 installment of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. Unearth is scheduled to play on the main stage on Saturday, April 21st alongside Protest The Hero, Overkill, and fellow home-town heroes, All That Remains.

Darkness in the Light, the latest studio album from Massachusetts metal heavyweights, UNEARTH, landed at #72 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, #14 on the Billboard Top Independent Album chart, and #7 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums chart.

“strong, dynamic songwriting…it highlights Unearth’s strengths superbly.” Decibel Magazine

“a whirling torrent of passion and aggression” 4/5, Terrorizer Magazine

“it’s the bands reawakened urgency and positivity that makes this like discovering them for the first time again.” Metal Hammer Magazine

“Darkness In The Light is a maelstrom of melodic riffs, screamy shouts and enough noodling to keep Guitar Hero nerds happy. But it’s not chasing maidens and slaying dragons; Unearth have enough of the ’90s straight-edge hardcore scene still left in their blood to give the lyrics an impassioned warrior cry against corrupt politics and wavering faith.” 4/5, Alternative Press Magazine

But it’s not chasing maidens and slaying dragons; UNEARTH have enough of the ’90s straight-edge hardcore scene still left in their blood to give the lyrics an impassioned warrior cry against corrupt politics and wavering faith.” Crave called the record, “…a first rate slice of metal that helps return the meat to the hollowed and empty husk of the metalcore genre,” while Ultimate-Guitar noted: “….it’s clear that this album takes the best elements from every album released so far and pushes them to their limits. Whether it be the urgency felt from ‘Stings Of Conscience’ or the thrashiness of ‘III: In The Eyes Of Fire,’ it’s all pushed to its finest point on this album.”

UNEARTH “Darkness In The Light” out July 5th

June 22nd, 2011

UNEARTH’s upcoming Darkness In The Light full-length, scheduled to hit North American record shelves on July 5, 2011, via Metal Blade Records. The 11-track long player was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley (Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed).

Comments vocalist Trevor Phipps of the record: “This album is without a doubt some of the heaviest, most dynamic and memorable tunes we’ve ever written. The disc is littered with the shred ‘n’ stomp-filled songs our fans would expect from us, as well as some added vocal hooks, guitar melodies, guitar solos and some different paths taken in style and structure. We knew we had to continue to separate ourselves from the pack and to cement our place in the heavy metal world as one of the leaders and not as one of the many followers that seem to hop on the trend wagon and give up so easily when the going gets hard. We are here to stay and collectively we couldn’t be any more fired up to play these songs around the world for our fans new and old. So check it out, spread the word of underground metal and leave some feedback. See you on the road!”

To check out Darkness In The Light in its entirety, go to
http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/exclusive_album_stream_unearths_darkness_in_the_light/
The stream will run from June 20 to July 5, the day the record hits streets.

With Darkness In The Light, the quintet have delivered their most honest and powerful statement to date, setting a new standard when it comes to marrying precision brute force and exhilarating melody. Fangoria.com commended the band in an advance review noting: “Tight riffing, varying from technical pedal-style patterns to twin-harmony Maiden/At The Gates worship, plus all the brutally chugging breakdowns, will surely serve to inspire many a karate kick in the pits come tour time. This is definitely music to move by… ” Pit Riff said Darkness In The Light is, “powerful, has the right amount of grab to it, and definitely has the spit-filled rage lyrically that this kind of music once possessed before being softened for the mall kids,” while Crave added: “Darkness In The Light is a first rate slice of metal that helps return the meat to the hollowed and empty husk of the metalcore genre.” Said Decibel of the band’s unwavering vitality: “Whether they’re tearing up a club at a headlining gig, opening for another band on a few square feet of stage space or blasting through headphones, that unmistakable energy is always there.”

UNEARTH: Worldwide Premiere Of “Watch It Burn” On Lambgoat.com

June 6th, 2011

Today, Lambgoat.com hosts the exclusive worldwide premiere of “Watch It Burn,” the anthemesque opening track off UNEARTH’s forthcoming Darkness In The Light full-length.

Blisteringly heavy both musically and thematically, vocalist Trevor Phipps comments: “‘Watch It Burn’ is the lead track from Darkness In The Light because we felt it captured the aggression and heaviness of the album while also staying true to our core sound from our earlier records. This is one of the only tunes without a guitar solo, but the harmonies are there to mix around one of the heaviest choruses we’ve ever written. The song is angry, fast and in-your-face while also allowing for a melodic bridge late in the song much like some of our older material. Lyrically, it is an anti-extremist song. It attacks both the left and right of the political spectrum while also calling into question extremist religious groups and their influence on our culture. All these political and religious extremists seem to manage to do is splinter society and turn people against each other that otherwise likely wouldn’t be at odds. Basically we can put aside some meager differences and work to better ourselves or we can keep heading down this destructive path and eventually ‘Watch It Burn.’”

Darkness In The Light is UNEARTH’s fifth full-length. Scheduled for release in North America on July 5 via Metal Blade Records, the 11-track long player was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer/Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed.

Both long term fans and those just getting to know the band for the first time will be struck by the sheer vitality and unconstrained energy surging through Darkness In the Light’s near 40-minute run time. Said Fangoria.com in an early review of the record: “Tight riffing, varying from technical peddle-style patterns, to twin harmony Maiden/At The Gates worship, and all the brutally chugging breakdowns, will surely serve to inspire many a karate kick in the pits, come tour time.”

UNEARTH: Darkness In The Light

UNEARTH: Darkness In The Light

Pit-churning, metalcore pioneers, UNEARTH, are currently readying to unveil Darkness In The Light, their fifth full-length in a discography that’s placed the band among the most prolific and plainly ravaging modern metal acts to come out of the U.S. Set for North American release on July 5 via Metal Blade Records, the 11-track long player — their most conceptually personal offering to date — was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed.

Commented UNEARTH vocalist Trevor Phipps of the band’s latest output: “Darkness In The Light is without a doubt some of the heaviest, most dynamic and memorable tunes we’ve ever written. The disc is littered with the shred ‘n’ stomp-filled songs our fans would expect from us, as well as some added vocal hooks, guitar melodies, guitar solos and some different paths taken in style and structure. The lyrics are also in line with many of the albums darker lyrical themes. I’m not speaking for all of the band, but this is my personal favorite on the album and I can’t wait to get out there and play it live!” To check it out the tune, point your browser to THIS LOCATION.

Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed. View the cover art HERE.
We knew we had to continue to separate ourselves from the pack and to cement our place in the heavy metal world as one of the leaders and not as one of the many followers that seem to hop on the trend wagon and give up so easily when the going gets hard. We are here to stay and collectively we couldn’t be any more fired up to play these songs around the world for our fans new and old.”
Darkness In The Light Track Listing:
01. Watch It Burn
02. Ruination Of The Lost
03. Shadows In The Light
04. Eyes Of Black
05. Last Wish
06. Arise The War Cry
07. Equinox
08. Coming Of The Dark
09. The Fallen
10. Overcome
11. Disillusion
The first single, the instantly pummeling “Eyes Of Black,” is currently streaming on the band’s official album landing page, which includes updated tour info, pre-order options and more. Said Phipps of the track: “We chose ‘Eyes Of Black’ to be the first song heard out of the gate as we feel it represents the ‘UNEARTH sound’ and style perfectly and it’s simply a hard-hitting, catchy-as-hell song. The lyrics are also in line with many of the albums darker lyrical themes. I’m not speaking for all of the band, but this is my personal favorite on the album and I can’t wait to get out there and play it live!” To check it out the tune, point your browser to THIS LOCATION.

Transcription By Claudia

I caught up with Unearth vocalist Trevor Phipps recently to discuss the band’s upcoming headlining tour with Darkest Hour, August Burns Red and Suicide Silence, as well as their DVD shoot, the drummer situation, the “metalcore” tag and his thoughts on being a “savior” of North American metal.
