Here comes an interview with band leader/drummer Michael Ehré from the new band Love.Might.Kill. Last year the band released their debut album BRACE FOR IMPACT. During the interview we talked about the new band, the line-up, and of course about the new album. I also dug a little deeper in Ehrés background as a drummer. The music of Love.Might.Kill will appeal to any fan of melodic heavy metal.

MICHAEL SCHENKER

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

German born guitarist Michael Schenker is one most inspirational and respected guitar players from the 1970’s. Michael started his career in early 1970’s being one of the founding members of The Scorpions. With the Scorpions he recorded their debut LONESOME CROW in 1972. In 1974 Michael was asked and joined the U.K. band UFO. The classic UFO line-up of: Phil Mogg, Pete Way, Andy Parker and Michael Schenker released a string of highly successful albums like: PHENOMENON, FORCE IT, NO HEAVY PETTING and LIGHT’S OUT before Michael decided to leave band in 1978. Michael was next offered gigs with such bands as Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne, but excluding a brief reunion with THE SCORPIONS, he decided that he wanted to play his own music and not be a hired gun in another group. MSG (Michael Schenker Group) was thus formed in 1979. The band’s self titled debut was released 1980 and it became an instant success. The history of the Michael Schenker Group has been strewn with personality conflicts and “incidents” between band members. In 1982, original vocalist Gary Barden was fired in favor of Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz) who lasted for one album (ASSAULT ATTACK). Gary Barden was enticed back to the band for M.S.G. for the recording of a new studio album BUILT TO DESTROY and a live album ROCK WILL NEVER DIE. After the second departure of vocalist Gary Barden, Michael reorganized the band around himself and vocalist Robin McAuley under the name McAuley Schenker Group. After three albums Michael and Robin parted their company in 1992.The classic UFO line–up resurrected in 1995 and WALK ON WATER was released later on that year. Although the band managed to release two more albums in the following years, Schenker finally quit the band in 2002. Since then, Michael has released a bunch albums with different versions of M.S.G and toured around the U.S., Europe and Japan. 2005 was the 25’Th Anniversary of Michael Schenker Group and album TALES OF ROCK’N ROLL. Singers from each incarnation of the group were enlisted to sing on a track or two. That album did lead Gary Barden and Michael to rejoin their forces and as a result MSG released its finest work in decades called THE MIDST OF BEAUTY in 2008. In December of 2009 band finally arrived to Helsinki to play their first show ever in Finland. In Helsinki, we had a chance to sit down with Michael….and here are the results of that interesting chat. Read on!!!

Uli Jon Roth

Interview by Deb Rao

One of the most innovative guitar players to emerge onto the metal scene is Uli Jon Roth. Uli Jon Roth has a career that spans from the early 70′s, as the masterful guitarist temporarily joined The Scorpions in 1973 and left the band in 1978. During his period with the band, The Scorpions released a live album, Tokyo Tapes". 2008 marks the release of "Tokyo Tapes", as the German guitarist will perform with his band at the same Hall that The Scorpions performed, at the Sun Plaza Hall for two nights on November 11th and 12th.

Uli Jon Roth recently released his latest sonic masterpiece, Under A Dark Sky" on SPV Records. The Cd is a sonic cosmic adventure filled with melodic riffs and deep emotion. I recently had the honor of speaking with guitarist extradonnaire Uli Jon Roth regarding "Under A Dark Sky", and future touring plans as Uli Jon Roth invades the UK and Japan.

KOTKAN MERIPÄIVÄT

25.07 2008 KOTKA, FINLAND

Kotkan Meripäivät is not such a festival where you can see too many metal or hard rock bands but sometimes the deviation approves all rules and this year the legendary Scorpions were headlining this three day festival. Scorpions are still continuing to tour support for bands latest release HUMANITY VOL 1, which came out over a year ago. In fact it was less than two months since Scorps last time played in Finland when they co -headlining Sauna Open Air -festival in Tampere but almost sold out audience in Kotka proved that there’s a huge demand for Scorpions in Finland.

Francis Buchholz ex-Scorpions

January 14th, 2007

FRANCIS BUCHHOLZ

Francis Buchholz played with the Scorpions for almost twenty years, appearing on the "Fly to the Rainbow" (1974), "In Trance" (1975), "Virgin Killer" (1976), "Taken by Force" (1977), "Tokyo Tapes" (1978), "Lovedrive" (1979), "Animal Magnetism" (1980), "Blackout" (1982), "Love at First Sting (1984), "World Wide Live" (1985), "Savage Amusement" (1988) and "Crazy World" (1990) albums. By the early ’90s Francis felt it was time to take a step away from the constant touring and the music business as a whole. Now he has finally returned to the stage together with his old friend and fellow ex-Scorpions member Uli Jon Roth. We managed to sit down with Francis as he, among other things, recounted the confusing happenings surrounding the very successful "Love at First Sting" (1984) album as well as his activies for the past fifteen years away from the public eye and much more.

ULI JON ROTH

November 26th, 2006

ULI JON ROTH

The legendary guitar virtuoso Uli Jon Roth played on the Scorpions’ albums “Fly to the Rainbow” (1974), “In Trance” (1975), “Virgin Killer” (1976), “Taken by Force” (1977) and finally on the classic live album “Tokyo Tapes”. Now he’s once again back on the touring circuit with his new band and also preparing to record a new studio album. Joining Uli on tour and in the studio is another ex-Scorpions member Francis Buchholz on bass with the rest of the band comprising of singer Olaf Senkbeil, Ferdy Doernberg (Alex Rudi Pell, Rough Silk) on keyboards and drummer Michael Ehré.

Although extreme wheather conditions had caused unexpected delays and cancellations in the plane and train department, with the situation on the roads not being much better, all is well that ends well. After much difficulty we finally arrived safely at the Rockland club in time enough to have a word with Uli Jon Roth, who had many interesting things to tell about his past with the Scorpions as well as his plans for the future and all the things in between (such as past and future collaborations with Ian Gillan of Deep Purple…)
