 TURISAS “Stand Up And Fight”
As 2011 dawns, the time has come to plot a new course and to unleash a new album. Now it is time to “Stand Up And Fight” the track-listing of which reads as follows:
TURISAS “Stand Up And Fight” track listing:
1. The March Of The Varangian Guard
2. Take The Day!
3. Hunting Pirates
4. βένετοι! – πράσινοι!
5. Stand Up And Fight
6. The Great Escape
7. Fear The Fear
8. End Of An Empire
9. The Bosphorus Freezes Over
“’Stand Up And Fight’ is a loose continuation of the story from ‘The Varangian Way’, and picks up where the previous one left us, in Constantinople,” explains mainman Mathias Nygård. “However, it is not a sequel as such. In general, the songs are much more universal and deal with topics that can be placed just as tightly into the modern world as in the 11th century Byzantine Empire. ‘Stand Up And Fight’ has much more to offer the contemporary listener.”
Their more contemporary and universal approach is also reflected by a revamped look: “TURISAS has always been about progression and evolution, and now with a new album we’re not here to repeat ourselves but to have something new to come with – also visually. Our look has developed through the years, and it’s never been something we created once to be static forever. Innovation is reinventing yourself regularly. We toured ‘The Varangian Way’ for three and a half years with a look that was tied to the album. With a new release, it was time for a makeover. The visual side has always played a very strong role in Turisas, and fear not – that’s not going to change. Stronger than ever, TURISAS has returned!”
The biggest, boldest and most gloriously extravagant album of the band’s career, “Stand Up And Fight” erupts like the ultimate heavy metal musical, with many layers of orchestration and choral harmonies adding to these songs’ intense sense of drama and mischief. Although remaining true to the spirit of past TURISAS records, the new album, which was mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth/Katatonia) at Fascination Street in Sweden, takes the Finns to a whole new level of depth and bravado, as their unmistakable sound expands before our very ears, consistently conjuring up vivid images of the Vikings’ ongoing adventures.
“On ‘Stand Up And Fight’ the storytelling and flavour of musical drama is more strongly present than ever,” agrees Nygård. “The album also introduces some new flavours like ‘80s stadium rock. For the first time, ‘Stand Up And Fight’ features real string and horn sections played by some of the best Finnish classical musicians, hand-picked from leading symphony orchestras at home and abroad. I’m sure TURISAS fans will be surprised, but in a positive way!”

 TURISAS - FINISHES NEW ALBUM
TURISAS has finished recording their upcoming, as yet untitled third album (TBA). The new album was recorded between at Sound Supreme Studio in Finland and mixed by the incredible Jens Bogren (Opeth, Paradise Lost etc.). The album was produced by vocalist and songwriter Mathias “Warlord” Nygård. The album is due to be released worldwide on Century Media Records in early 2011. Complete information on the album title, release date and all other details will follow very soon!
Along with releasing a new album, TURISAS is set to join Cradle of Filth on a US tour during February-March 2011. The other supporting bands on this trek are Nachtmystium and Daniel Lioneye.
Warlord Nygård comments:
“After a 16-month break from touring, focusing fully on the work on our third album, I’m happy to tell you that we’re DONE! The workload has been enormous, and at times I’ve wished I’d known better, formed a punk rock band and kept things simple! But to achieve real progress, you really have to dig deep and see what you’re made of. Take bites so big, you almost choke. We’ve stayed true to our ideology of releasing music only when we have something new to come out with, not repeating ourselves or just copying what we’ve done in the past to feed the market. Now that we’re done with studios, we’re all extremely excited to get back on the road again, and as our latest visit to North America is long overdue, coming over in January with Cradle is something we’re all very much looking forward to. We had a great time touring with them in Europe in 2009, so this should be killer! Now we only have to figure out how to play these new songs!!”
Earlier this fall, TURISAS offered up some new material as the band released the digital-only single “Supernaut”, a cover of a classic Black Sabbath song. The track, originally recorded for a special Sabbath tribute album by Metal Hammer UK, is now available on all digital European, North American and Australian platforms including iTunes (http://www.itunes.com/turisas) and more!

Turisas
22 May 2010
The Factory Theatre, Sydney
I have tried to see TURISAS twice at Wacken Open Air. The first time in 2005 when it was wet and cold and they were playing at 2 am and all I could think about was raising my body temperature with a warm shower. The second time in 2007 they were playing on the Wet Stage and the tent was so crammed, you couldn’t even get near the entry.

When their Australian tour was announced I was ecstatic, but I didn’t purchase my tickets straight away — I’d already been disappointed by the promoter with the cancellation of the PARADISE LOST tour. Sure enough, the TURISAS tour was canceled and if I hadn’t received an email from Soundwave Touring (of Soundwave Festivals fame) announcing the reinstatement of the tour, I’d have never known it was canceled in the first place. The unfortunate casualty of the off/on status of the tour was the Brisbane venue had already filled the vacant date and TURISAS was only going to play Sydney and Melbourne.

The 15th -16th of August 2008
Oulu Teatria Finland
Review and pictures by Arto Lehtinen, Niko Karppinen and Luxi Lahtinen

Finland is definitely one hell of a paradise for metalheads as there are five to six metal festivals arranged all around Finland during the summer time. One of those metal festivals which has started becoming more and more known is Jalometalli up in the north of Finland. The whole festival started as a small event, mostly consisting of local bands. Jalometalli has since grown, attracting plenty of killer and catchy names such as Onslaught, Testament, and Rotting Christ. This year’s event was no exception with several first time visitors such as Overkill, Trouble and Mortal Sin. It is obvious most of these bands have been all time favs of the Jalometalli organization. The festival is not a big massive gathering of tens of thousands of people. Instead, the event is a small, true, intense metal event with visitors having travelled from far away. This is the very first time ever when Jalometalli festival is covered by Metal-Rules.com. And if you live somewhere in the northern part of Sweden, Norway or Russia, start seriously considering having a roadtrip to the next Jalometalli event as the line-up of 2009 will surely be full of pleasant surprises…
Enjoy the article and some video clips in it, too!

Dragonforce
with Turisas

The Astoria, London
3rd October 2008
All pics and live review by HannTu
Tonight’s not a night for doom and gloom, it’s a night for donning silly face paint and fake animal hair, raising your battle-axes (plastic) and your drinking horns (plastic), and rocking out with all the gusto you can manage. Yup, it’s Turisas and Dragonforce, two sold out nights at the London Astoria.

Turisas
with Norther and Alestorm

Electric Ballroom, London
13th March 2008
All live pics and review by HannTu
There was a noticeable party mood around the venue tonight, even though many of the fans had been standing outside in the London drizzle for the best part of two hours. I suppose that was in keeping with the sea-faring (you’ll see) outdoorsy spirit of the line-up tonight. For once, much of the buzz wasn’t about the headliner, nor even the supporting band. For once, the buzz was about the opening band. The fans came dressed up to party, drink and have a good time, and the Turisas nutters were out in force decked out with battle paint and fur, and plastic swords and Viking helmets in abundance. And cudgels. Cudgels for fuck’s sake. I sometimes wonder. Anyway…

FINNISH METAL EXPO
CABLE FACTORY: Helsinki, Finland
15th – 16th 2008
Article and Pics by Arto Lehtinen
The Finnish Metal Expo was arranged for the fourth time. The previous events have been an utter success with sold out nights and awesome band line-ups. The expo is held every year, where several more or less important and not so important musicians and above all metal leaders usually gather to hang out and of course check out the latest on the metal map. Due to overwhelming interest and success, the organization of the Expo has expanded the expo capacity by arranging more space for different kinds of studio and other guitar and band clinics. Two notable band clinics were held by Children of Bodom and Stratovarius members. Of course, record labels, several magazines, and festival representatives werein attendance at the event and all in all everything related to a wide range of metal and hard rock was at the expo. The metal expo wouldn’t be any real expo event without live music and above all metal bands playing there. During these two days plenty of known as well as unknown bands got the great opportunity to play in front of thousands. As a matter of fact, 5000 metal maniacs visited the event during the weekend!
