MacAlpine’s update on his health:
“Hello my friends,
I would like to say hello to you all and wish you the best during this holiday season. Regardless of whether you are near or far, this is the time of the year that brings friends and family together.
It has been a while since I have had the energy to write, so I will take this time to give you an update of sorts, a small window into some of my daily activities at this point.
Two months after my surgery on August 28th, I have been strictly following the course of these excellent Doctors of Medicine, and progress is being achieved at a rate they as well as I am encouraged by. It is a difficult routine that I must endure for many more months that involves a very intense series of drug therapies and constant analytical procedures that are overwhelmingly draining because of their brutal side effects, but my eyes and heart are on the big picture, which is recovery.
More often than not the biggest hurdle is knowing that after you engage yourself in this fight – this battle on a weekly schedule – you still must reserve some energy to think positive, as that is a very important and necessary mechanic in this healing process.
Your prayers, messages and positive energy are not going unnoticed, and although I have quite a long road ahead, it is not traveled alone, as I have all of you there for support. And I thank you all for that!
I will touch base and give you further updates soon.”

In his twenty-five year long career, Tony MacAlpine has defined his music by mixing different styles to create a vast and distinct sound. From Jazz-Fusion to Metal, Tony has played it all. With the recent release of his 13th studio album, Tony’s unique sound continues to push the boundaries of music to great lengths and has shown no signs of slowing down. He is an experienced guitarist, bassist, and singer amongst other things, and his virtuoso status makes him a great asset to whatever project he is working on. Whether it’s with Reign of Fire or Planet X, Tony is always on the move. Well I guess you have to be to release thirteen studio albums right? Tony was kind enough to chat with Metal-Rules.com about his new album and his plans for the future. This is what he had to say.
Back in 1998 when I learned that Mark Boals would be returning to Yngwie’s “Rising Force” band for the CD Alchemy, I was very excited. He had after all sang on what is perhaps the best Malmsteen CD, Trilogy! So out came Alchemy and to no surprise – I loved it…the best Yngwie CD to come along since Trilogy. Mark did the Alchemy tour and then began work on his own solo album. Partway through the recording, he was called in to do vocals on the new Yngwie CD, War To End All Wars. A slightly less exciting CD than Alchemy, but nonetheless godly (despite the strange sounding production)!! Right before the new tour was to begin I read a press release about Mark no longer being in the band…WTF?? Very shortly after this I was contacted by Mark with news of his new solo CD Ring of Fire. I quickly jumped on the chance to pick his brain about what happened and to get more information on his solo album. Below is the result of our Q-n-A session.
