TIM RIPPER OWENS (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, DIO DISCIPLES, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH)

For the first time solo in Australia and New Zealand, Tim Ripper Owens performing Judas Priest classics, along with tracks from DIO, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN plus his own solo projects.

Owens is without doubt among the most important metal vocalists of the past fifteen years. When he joined JUDAS PRIEST in May 1996, succeeding Rob Halford, the press rubbed their eyes, surprised as well as impressed: Owens had previously been a fairly unknown singer to international music journalists with only a few aware of him from his band WINTERS BANE but he recorded his first PRIEST album, the Grammy-nominated “Jugulator” (1997) with more aplomb than even insiders had expected. Following successful tours with the British metal legends, the strong studio recording “Demolition” (2001), and the live recordings, “Meltdown – 98 Live” (1998) and “Live In London” (2003) were released as well as the movie “Rockstar”, which was loosely based on Tim’s experience with JUDAS PRIEST.

Halford’s return put an end to Owens’ stint with JUDAS PRIEST however he was more or less Immediately enlisted by Jon Schaffer to team up with ICED EARTH to sing on “The Glorious Burden” in spring 2004. Three years later, Owens followed suit with the ICED EARTH album “Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Pt. I)”, which succeeded the self-titled highly praised debut by his own band BEYOND FEAR. Spring 2008 saw Owens move on to join one of the world’s best guitar players Yngwie Malmsteen, debuting with a sensational vocal performance on “Perpetual Flame”. This was was followed in 2010 by the critically acclaimed Malmsteen outing “Relentless”. In 2011, Ripper joined with DIO band-members to create Dio Disciples, which has toured Europe and the US to keep alive the music and legacy of the late Ronnie James Dio.

Released in May 2009, “Play My Game”, the first solo album from Owens, landed at position No. 66 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart. The CD was released via SPV/Steamhammer and consists of around a dozen brand-new tracks featuring compositions by Owens along with songwriting contributions from renowned friends, such as Bob Kulick, Chris Caffery (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Mike Callahan (ex-EARSHOT) and John Comprix (BEYOND FEAR, RINGWORM). The list of guest musicians reads like a who’s who of rock and metal and includes: Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Jeff Loomis (Nevermore), Craig Goldy (Dio), Michael Wilton (Queensryche), Carlos Cavazo (Quiet Riot), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Billy Sheehan (Mr Big, David Lee Roth), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Rudy Sarzo (Dio, Ozzy Osbourne), James Lomenzo (Megadeth, White Lion), Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio), and Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio).

This is your first chance to see one of the most important vocalists of our time – THE RIPPER!

ICED EARTH – Jon Schaffer

January 2nd, 2012

DSC_9116.JPG

JON SCHAFFER

INTERVIEW BY ARTO LEHTINEN AND MARKO SYRJALA

Iced Earth led by mastermind guitarist Jon Schaffer has gone thru several difficult periods but always survived as a winner. When the bands longtime singer Matt Barlow announced his retirment from Iced Earth again, fans were entirely stunned. Last summer the band did a farewell tour with Barlow and after that the new singer Stu Block stepped in. Block was recruited from the Canadian band Into Eternity. The new Iced Earth album DYSTOPIA literally blew fans away by Stu Block’s skills to sing such a varied register and in general DYSTOPIA presented a more aggressive and still melodic Iced Earth. Before the show Metal-Rules.com had an utter pleasant task to interview Jon Schaffer.

Charred Walls of the Damned “Cold Winds On Timeless Days” Billboard Chart positions revealed

October 21st, 2011
Charred Walls of the Damned - "Cold Winds on Timeless Days" - October 11th, 2011

Charred Walls of the Damned - "Cold Winds on Timeless Days" - October 11th, 2011

The latest album from Charred Walls of the DamnedCold Winds On Timeless Days, has debuted on the Billboard charts! The record reached #53 on the Billboard Hard Music Charts and #14 on the Billboard New Artist (Heatseekers) Chart. On iTunes, the CD peaked at #43 on the rock charts. Additionally, the album reached #89 on the Hard Music Charts on Soundscan in Canada.

Richard Christy, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Jason Suecof and Steve DiGiorgio once again joined forces to bring to life Christy’s latest body of work, Cold Winds on Timeless Days. The writing process for the new album actually began while the band was mixing their 2010 debut. Richard Christy used his experience on the first album to write songs that catered not only to each member’s playing style, but to Jason Suecof’s production style. The result: demos that turned out nearly identical to what ended up on the album.

With 12 songs clocking in at 58 minutes, fans are getting a lot more music this time around. Recording twelve songs in a short amount of time is no easy feat, but one that was accomplished because of the stellar talents in the band. Christy elaborates further; “I wanted to get a natural sound out of this album, I wanted everyone to be well rehearsed, not that I wanted the album to be rushed, but I wanted the spontaneous live feel and not over think anything too much.” Richard Christy describes Cold Winds on Timeless Days as a “perfect storm of producing” – Audiohammer’s Jason Suecof produced and Mark Lewis mixed, while mastering was handled by Alan Douches at West Westside.

Charred Walls of the Damned’s sophomore album, Cold Winds On Timeless Days, was released October 11th and is available everywhere now: iTunesAmazon.comMetalBlade.com,Shopbenchmark.com and at your local record stores.

Cold Winds On Timeless Days will be released October 11th via Metal Blade Records!

In other news Richard Christy has partnered up with Modern Drummer Magazine to premiere his studio performance video for the song Admire The Heroes. Richard filmed his drum takes while recording Cold Winds On Timeless Days at the Hit Factory Criteria in Miami, FL earlier this year. Those takes from two different cameras were edited into the video you can see on ModernDrummer.comHERE. Christy’s approach to this record was that he wanted a more organic and spontaneous sounding album. Amazingly, drums were recorded in a mere two days and the video is evidence to his ability to record the songs in an entire, contiguous take.

Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Singer TIM ‘RIPPER’ OWENS Comments On K.K. DOWNING’s Departure

August 30th, 2011

Former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim “Ripper” Owens says that he “hates” the fact that guitarist and founding member Kenneth “K.K.” Downing is no longer part of the legendary British heavy metal band but urges all metal fans to support the group as it continues its “farewell” tour.

During an appearance on today’s (Monday, August 29) edition of “Eddie Trunk Live” on SiriusXM, Owens was asked for his opinion about K.K.’s departure from JUDAS PRIEST and the band’s decision to carry on touring without Downing. “I hate that K.K.’s not in the band,” Tim said. “I’m friends with all of them. I just saw Ken up in Manchester when DIO DISCIPLES played there. We went and had some dinner, he hung out all night. It was a great time.”

He added, “Listen, I was in the band and Rob Halford wasn’t there, so I can’t be the one to say, ‘Well, it’s not the same without somebody.’ That’s not the case. But it does stink that Ken’s not there. Because I am friends with him and as a band, we did everything together — I mean, Glenn [Tipton] and Ian [Hill] and Scott [Travis], we always did stuff together. I hope he’ll be back and they’ll get back at it. But they’re out there doing it. Ken’s excited; he’s at home, he’s enjoying his time off, he’s having a good time at home. And the guys are out there touring and all the metal fans should go support them.”

Owens recorded two studio albums with JUDAS PRIEST — 1997’s “Jugulator” and 2001’s “Demolition” — before the band reunited with Halford in 2003.

Downing issued a statement in April regarding his departure from JUDAS PRIEST in which he blamed his decision to leave on the fact that “there has been an ongoing breakdown in (the) working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band’s management for some time. Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans.”

Halford told French magazine Rock Hard, “K.K. leaving was his own decision, for the reasons he made public on his web site. . . K.K. has his own life to live and we can’t force him to do anything he doesn’t want to do.”

Regarding Richie Faulkner’s addition to JUDAS PRIEST, Tipton recently said, “Richie was recommended to us and we checked him out online and I asked him up to the studio and said, ‘Show me what you can do,’ and I just knew straight away he was the man for the job. The beauty about Richie is he’s never tried to replace what Ken did. He does it in his own way and that’s the magic of it. Straight away we were all amazed at the contradiction; that he can do his own thing but he really blends in and works with PRIEST. We were all astonished by it.”

Former DIO Members To Tour Europe With TIM ‘RIPPER’ OWENS, TOBY JEPSON As DIO DISCIPLES

March 19th, 2011

Ronnie James DioFormer DIO members Rudy Sarzo (bass), Simon Wright (drums), Craig Goldy (guitar) and Scott Warren (keyboards) will be joining forces with singers Tim “Ripper” Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) and Toby Jepson (FASTWAY, LITTLE ANGELS, GUN) for a number of shows in Europe under the name DIO DISCIPLES.

Ronnie James Dio’s widow and manager Wendy remarked: “There will never be another Ronnie, but we want to keep his music alive and hope you will support the band and become one of the DIO DISCIPLES. We will post the UK/European tour dates as they are confirmed, and we are planning some US dates also. Hope to see you at one of the shows.”

A Ronnie James Dio tribute album is in the works by Dio’s widow Wendy according to a new interview by Noisecreep’s Steve Baltin.

“It probably won’t come out this year, but everybody signed up,” Dio told Noisecreep.

So, who’s signed on thus far? “Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Glenn Hughes, Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS), Lemmy (MOTÖRHEAD),” she said, adding Grohl will do the Black Sabbath hit ‘Mob Rules,’ and Halford will be taking on ‘Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll.’ And artists keep coming on. “I just talked to ALICE (COOPER), roped Alice in and SEBASTIAN (BACH) and Chris (Jericho),” she said, referring to fellow attendees at the Golden Gods press conference. And Cooper already has a song in mind, going back to the Elf days, according to Wendy.

Read the entire interview at Noisecreep.

Rainbow In The Dark: The Autobiography Of Ronnie James Dio, the revealing memoir of the heavy metal master, will be published in the spring of 2012 via MTV Books.

An excerpt from a press release reads: “with nearly five decades of worldwide success and album sales in the tens of millions as the front man of ELF, RAINBOW, DIO, BLACK SABBATH, and, most recently, HEAVEN & HELL, Ronnie James Dio grabbed the mic, took the stage, and led a movement whose influence resonates to this day. In Rainbow In The Dark, Dio himself will introduce the reader to this incredible life and the over 50 photographs included will provide readers with an unprecedented all-access pass to the rock concert of a lifetime.”

Ronnie James Dio - Live in Helsinki, Finland in 2006

According to Joe Siegler from Black-Sabbath.com, TIM “RIPPER” OWENS (HAIL!, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) will be singing in place of RONNIE JAMES DIO (BLACK SABBATH, DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, RAINBOW, ELF) on some unreleased Dio material the Dio band is going to be recording. Apparently bassist Rudy Sarzo and guitarist Craig Goldy were given permission by Wendy Dio to go through Ronnie’s computer looking for music they can record.

In other news, last night (Sunday, February 13th) at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, – which took place in Los Angeles at Staples Center – during the photo flashback segment honoring musicians that we lost in the past year, Ronnie James Dio was among them.

Introducing a Rockin Sports Eatery… it’s the “Ripper Owens Tap House”

December 4th, 2010
Ripper Owens Tap House

Ripper Owens Tap House

According to Aaron Coleman from Thesuburbanite.com, the opening of the Ripper Owens Tap House on Waterloo Road in Akron, Ohio has been two years in the making for singer Tim “Ripper” Owens (HAIL!, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ex-ICED EARTH) and local restauranteur Randy Arehart who wanted to build a “Rockin Sports Eatery” that everyone could enjoy.

To build a Rockin Sports Eatery, you must have two things, great service, and great food to go along with that atmosphere, and the Tap House has both.

“We take great pride in our menu said Arehart, It’s more than typical bar food, You can get anything from a burger, to a steak, and our waiters, waitresses, and bartenders will be sure it gets to you in a timely manner, with a smile, and cooked the way you want it.”

“The Judas Priest memorabila and the various items Tim’s collected over the years add to the decor of the place and it was totally a team effort,” Arehart said.

“Our policy here is to treat everyone like a rock star, and that means great service from our staff here, and make sure your experience is a quality one that will have you coming back,” Ripper said.
