The theme of most Jagermiester tours is that of the eclectic, mixing a variety of bands together that make for an interesting and diverse show. Ranging in style with previous line ups with bands such as Skindred, Therapy? , Black Spiders, Slayer and Korn among others. Tonight the line up diversity is no different, with bands from Feed the Rhino right up to the occult heavy Ghost. The Brixton academy’s lush interior dripped in Jagermiester banners, along with a crowd clutching as many Jagermiester shots as possible, all ready for a metal party.

When corpse paint, fake blood and gruesome fancy-dress come up in conversation, two things spring to mind: the set of a Watain gig, or Halloween. But it’s the time of year for the latter, and horn-wielding giants Metal Hammer are throwing all this and more at a sonic carnival of celebration!

Godsmack Ft: The Defiled

@ HMV Forum, Kentish town

Jesus, it’s been a while since I’ve been to this venue! I came here when it was just the Kentish Town Forum; I think I was 17/18 when I came here to see “In Flames” supported by the mighty “Sepultura” and what a gig that was!! I remember getting my eyebrows singed off by the amount of pyrotechnics they flew about!! Mad.

But tonight I’m here to see one hell of a band, a band that may even out do my last experience here, “GODSMACK” and it’s their only UK performance as they head out on what looks like one hell of a tour going through Paris all the way to Germany! And what a crowd, with a mixture of cyber Goth and pure Texan style metal heads running around with their cowboy hats yelling Godsmack at the top of their lungs! Excitement filled the air tonight!!

Despite its reputation for a tricky commute and arguably eyesore appearance (don’t confuse familiarity with satisfaction, fellow Londoners), the O2 Arena is a fantastic venue space for the Golden Gods and ample notice that metal is still as healthy as it ever was, showing no signs of bowing to austerity measures.

What would we do without this yearly event? 

Well, for a start we’d probably have healthier livers and better hearing in our later years, however many would also be deprived of their chance to postpone their Download hangovers or simply be given a reason to wash off this year’s festival mud and watch some of the scene’s glitterati forget about their day jobs for an evening.  Metal Hammer Magazine’s annual schmoozefest is upon us, and with it a dazzling array of leather, lip gloss & limp fringes.
