THE CROWN begins work on new album; announces Japanese tour

March 4th, 2013

Sweden’s legendary death metal masters THE CROWN have published the following statement regarding the recording process for the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed album, Doomsday King (2010):

“A lot of things are happening with THE CROWN at this very moment. We are in the middle of recording a true masterpiece. Marko is more or less done with his rhythm guitar work and Magnus has started with the bass stuff. He recorded a bass track for one song today before we all got together and filmed a small ‘jingle’ for our Japanese friends. Only three months until we hit Japan for the very first time. We are extremely excited about this. Hopefully we’ll see YOU there.

Last but not least, we are very proud to announce our new lineup. Yes, we have a new member in the band. His name is Robin Sörqvist and he fits the band more than perfectly. You have probably heard him in the band IMPIOUS before. He’s got the lead guitar skills and the will to kick ass, just as the rest of us.

Please embrace Robin with a big and loud HELL YEAHHHHH!!!!” Read the rest of this entry »

Steelfest – Hyvinkaa Finland

Steelfest – Hyvinkaa Finland

The Finnish summer is a full of all kinds of festivals. Metal music has massive support amongst the Finnish festival audience. It is no surprise that a new festival is established when another vanishes. Steelfest is basically a new metal festival on the map even though the fest has been around for a while now. The organization of Steelfest used to run the fest as a private event for close friends and invited them to enjoy the metal madness. Until now Steelfest was expanded and doors were opened to the larger public. The location for the festival was tremendous when taking a glance at the location in general and above all the festival area. There were two stages where all the bands terrorized and unleashed hell on earth. The moving between these stages was easy and smooth. Of course, some smaller issues could be pointed out, but all in all the festival faced ultimate great success in every aspect.

THE CROWN: the return of the royal five!

September 9th, 2011
The Crown on FacebookIt’s time to let THE CROWN speak about an exciting piece of news:

“We have an announcement to make, Johan Lindstrand has re-joined THE CROWN, this means that the original line-up is now ready to kill once again!!

THE CROWN September 2011:
Johan Lindstrand – Vocals
Magnus Olsfelt – Bass
Marko Tervonen – Rhythm Guitars
Janne Saarenpää – Drums
Marcus Sunesson – Lead Guitars

We would like to thank our metal-brother Jonas Stålhammar for the amazing team-work for the last couple of years!!! Respect!!!

Next week we’ll start rehearsing new material (6-7 news songs written at this point). We hope to enter the studio early 2012.

We are thinking of doing a few Swedish dates within a couple of months (most likely a first re-union show in our hometown Trollhättan, this time in a proper club) and then focus on doing some kick-ass festivals in 2012.”

Johan Lindstrand: “Hi there all amazing THE CROWN fans out there, Johan Lindstrand speaking: Once again I have been blessed with the opportunity to join my oldest friends and brothers in arms Marko, Janne, Magnus and Markus. I’m am so grateful for this and I will do my best to make the original line-up live up to all expectations and we will definitely have a total blast together while rippin´ the world to pieces with a lot more years to come.

Yeah, from now on I am the lead singer in this classic death metal outfit called THE CROWN. Damn! That feels good to say.

I will also take some time here to thank Jonas Stålhammar ’cause he did an amazing job on “Doomsday King”. You rule dude!

Other than that I have to say: THE ORIGINAL 5 HAS RETURNED!!! Go hide your children.”

Jonas Stålhammar: “Come in Number 51, your time is up! It’s fitting quoting the classic Pink Floyd song right about now. My time with THE CROWN comes to an end with the return of the true voice of THE CROWN, Johan Lindstrand. It’s been a bumpy but really enjoyable ride for me being a member of THE CROWN.

It’s with great respect I step down to let Johan take his rightful place in the band again. I wish them all the best and they are truly my brothers still.”

Needless to say that it was a pleasure to work with Jonas on “Doomsday King”!

The exclusive re-issue of two albums by One Man Army and the Undead Quartet

October 14th, 2010

With a name like One Man Army and the Undead Quartet you shouldn’t expect anything less than pure sonic Armageddon and this is exactly what this band delivers. Under the command of Johan Lindstrand (ex-vocalist of the legendary death metal act The Crown), this metal monstrosity proves that old-school thrash and melodic death metal can easily be combined into a perfect blend of sheer aggression and top notch musicianship. Metal Mind Productions presents the exclusive reissues of “21st Century Killing Machine” (2006) and “Error in Evolution” (2007) – the band’s first two LPs – which are all the proof you need to get sucked into the world of ultimate metal annihilation!

The group’s formation was a direct result of the disbandment of Lindstrand’s previous act – The Crown. The band’s debut demo entitled “When Hatred Comes To Life” was released in early 2005, granting Lindstrand’s and his crew a deal with Nuclear Blast Records. Under this flag the band recorded their stunning debut album called “21st Century Killing Machine”, which landed in stores on January 6th, 2006. The group’s debut offering proved to be a big success on the European metal scene, receiving great reviews and top scores in the press. The band soon found themselves on tour supporting Children of Bodom and later playing shows with such renown acts as Soilwork, Hypocrisy and Amorphis. They celebrated the end of the year with releasing the bizarre yet brilliant anti-Christmas single called “Christmas for the Lobotomizer”. The year 2007 brought One Man Army and The Undead Quartet’s second LP entitled “Error in Evolution” (the album was released on March 7th). This time it was more of a group effort rather than Lindstrand’s solo work. As he summed it up in an interview for “Now the band has been together for two years and everyone was involved in the songwriting process. We have much wider influences coming from all directions. The songs have more melody and catchiness.” Indeed, the material on “Error in Evolution” proved to be more melodic and experimental than that on the debut record. It also included a surprising cover of “He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)” by… Alice Cooper! The album was very well received by the fans, who strongly appreciated the group’s musical progress. “Error in Evolution” was promoted in Europe with an extensive tour alongside Gorefest. In 2008 One Man Army and the Undead Quartet returned with their third album called “Grim Tales”, released by Massacre Records.

“21st Century Killing Machine” and “Error in Evolution” will be available in new digipak editions, each limited to 2000 copies. Both albums include bonus tracks. The material was remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc. Metal Mind Productions set up the release date for November, 22nd in Europe and January, 11th 2011 in USA (via MVD).

THE CROWN Sign Worldwide Deal With Century Media Records; Announce New Album Title

June 30th, 2010
The Crown - 2010

The Crown - 2010

Swedish Death Metal legends THE CROWN have signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. Marko Tervonen (guitars) states: “We are happy as hell to turn a new page in THE CROWN’s history book and to pick up the journey with Century Media Records supporting us feels great. We can’t wait to unleash the new album, Doomsday King, upon you all!”

Jens Prueter (Head of A+R, Century Media Europe) further comments: “Some of the very early Century Media signings have been Unleashed, Grave, Tiamat, Asphyx, Morgoth – the glory days of the first Death Metal wave. We are still in love with Death Metal and are more than proud to announce the signing of Swedish Death Metal legends THE CROWN. They haven’t lost any aggression since the early 90’s and are still a guarantee for some Death Metal Holocaust! In case of doubt, go to one of the summer festivals and hear some new songs live before the album’s fall release. We will be there as well. Cheers!”

The band was founded in 1990 in Trollhättan under the name Crown of Thorns but was forced to change their name to THE CROWN in 1998 due to another band from the U.S. using that name. Three of the original founding members are still in the band: Marko Tervonen (guitar), Magnus Olsfelt (bass) and Janne Saarenpää (drums). In 1993, Marcus Sunesson (guitar) stepped in to replace Robert Österberg. In 2004, the band announced their break up, but by good luck for all Death Metal fans, the band decided to reform in 2009 with Jonas Stålhammar (from the Death Metal pioneers God Macabre) taking over vocal duties from Johan Lindstrand. For more background information about the reunion, please check the in-depth interview Marko did last December with Metal Sucks.

The new album Doomsday King is planned for fall release and stay tuned to for all new info as it becomes available.

The Crown – Marco Tervonen

August 28th, 2005

Marco Tervonen of The Crown
Interview with THE CROWN
Interviewed By Waspman:
At The Reverb in Toronto, August 10th 2000

When the whirlwind that is the Cannibal Corpse / Nile / Krisiun / The Crown tour whipped through Toronto a few weeks ago, I had the honor of meeting one of the best guitarists and song writers in the death metal scene today: Marko Tervonen from The Crown. With all of the killer riffs that come from his guitar, you’d think that Marko would be a gruff kinda guy. In reality, he’s a very funny and fun to talk to. The following is a conversation that we had just before his band stormed the stage and killed about 800 Toronto fans.
