Dutch progressive metallers TEXTURES are excited to announce that Joe Tal will replace Jochem Jacobs who left the band earlier this year.
Joe had to say this about joining TEXTURES:
“I am really superexcited about this, it was a lot of fun doing the audition and jamming with the guys. It feels great to say I’m a part of the group now and I can’t wait to actually get started.”
The band’s official comment:
“It was a big setback for us to see Jochem leave TEXTURES. Jochem was a driving force behind the band from the beginning and helped the band get to where we are right now. But Joe gives us more than enough reason to continue our journey with loads of new ideas and riffs. His diversity, personality, musical taste, the background of the band and of course his great technique were the reasons why we chose Joe to become our new guitarist. This makes us want to play shows and write new music even more than we already did!!”
Joe will make his live debut on a select number of shows this summer. Those new dates are listed below:
31-05: BUMA ROCKS, Doornroosje: Nijmegen, The Netherlands
31-08: Rockstadt Extreme Fest Open Air, Risnov, Brasov, Romania

New Album, Dualism, Hits Stores on September 27th, 2011 in North America
Catch TEXTURES on the road with Periphery, The Human Abstract, and The Contortionist – Tour Kicks off this Friday, September 2nd
TEXTURES drummer Stef Broks has been voted ‘Best Dutch Metal Drummer’ and ‘Best Dutch Drummer’ overall by the readers of the popular Dutch drum magazine Slagwerkkrant. An awards show to celebrate this achievement will take place in the beginning of September. This is the first time in the magazine’s history that a specific metal drummer has won both awards.
“This is really bizarre. I’ve never considered myself a drummer’s drummer,” states Stef Broks. “Of course I practiced a lot on drums, but not [Virgil] Donati-style. Most of the practicing happens on my knees and… in my head 24/7, creating rhythmic and song ideas. I am a reader of Slagwerkkrant since I was 9 years old, playing along with Yes and old U2 songs. Winning these awards is really flattering, but doesn’t mean I don’t want to make progression anymore. On the contrary! Thanks to you all!”
Recently, Stef’s first play-through video for the song ‘Singularity’ was released by the American drum webzine Sickdrummer.com and can be viewed now at Sick Drummer’s YouTube channel. ‘ Singularity’ is a track from the forthcoming TEXTURES album Dualism, which is set to hit stores on September 23rd in Europe, South America, Asia & Australia and September 27th in North America via Nuclear Blast. Dualism can be pre-ordered for $10.00 from Nuclear Blast USA’s webstore; pre-order bundles that include band t-shirts can be purchased from IndieMerch.com. All Indie Merch pre-order bundles will be automatically entered into a raffle to win a TEXTURES Mayones guitar. Fans can stream the new track ‘Reaching Home’ at RevolverMag.com, and listen to ‘Singularity’ on the band’s Facebook page.

TEXTURES guitar player Bart Hennephof had the following to say about the upcoming “Frak The Gods” tour:
“Yes, finally we are able to do a tour in the U.S.! We are all very excited! Past years we have gotten a lot of response and messages from the U.S. fans telling us to come over. Finally we can fulfill their (and our own) wishes… and what better band to go on tour with than with Periphery! This tour is going to be a blast! We can’t wait to travel across the country and play shows throughout the States!”
TEXTURES recently finished recording their new album at Split Second Sound Studios in Amsterdam with producer Jochem Jacobs, who is also the band’s guitarist. The as-yet-untitled album is the follow-up to 2008’s highly successful & critically lauded Silhouettes and will feature the debut of new vocalist Daniel de Jongh, formerly of fellow Dutch metallers CiLiCe, to replace the spot vacated by former vocalist Eric Kalsbeek.

An in-studio video update by Dutch technical metal band TEXTURES is now available for viewing on YouTube. This episode gives a behind-the-scenes look at Day 8 of the guitar recording sessions at Split Second Sound in Amsterdam with producer/TEXTURES guitarist Jochem Jacobs for the band’s upcoming fourth studio album. Jacobs is also responsible for the production on the band’s previous albums.
Guitarist Bart Hennephof had the following to say about the recording process:
“This might be the biggest thing we have done so far, especially guitar-wise. We really used every piece of gear – every guitar, amp, cabinet and effect – that was available to us at Split Second Sound studio, to get the right sounds for all the different parts of the album. It’s a very tough process; we have been tracking guitar for weeks now, but finally the end is in sight! Bass, synths and vocals still need to be done, and those are being recorded right now. The pieces are coming together. This album is growing beyond control! Can’t wait to get on the road with this!”
The as-yet-untitled and follow-up to 2008’s Silhouettes album will be released this fall.
Upcoming TEXTURES tour dates:
June 4, 2011 NF Festival LA GARRIGA, BARCELONA, SPAIN (with Hatesphere)
July 16, 2011 Day Of Decay 2011 AALBORG, DENMARK (with Scar Symmetry)
Oct. 22, 2011 EUROBLAST COLOGNE, GERMANY (German release show)
Oct. 23, 2011 MEZZ BREDA, THE NETHERLANDS (Dutch release show)
TEXTURES’ 2003 debut album, Polars, received worldwide critical acclaim and the band went on to receive an Essent Award for “Most Promising Act” in 2004 in their native Holland. Their 2006 sophomore album, Drawing Circles, was their true breakthrough and solidified TEXTURES’ status in the annuls of the early djent movement.

Jochem had the following to say about the new recordings:
“It’s all really exciting! This album is really going to express where and what we are these days… and that’s a good thing. We’ve been through a lot lately, especially the last year. Now with some new air and fresh ideas, we finally reached the point that we are actually quite confident in the new material. Sometimes you just have to crawl through the mud first to get to dry grounds. We are in the middle of the pre-production now, getting our asses in gear to create this baby. It’s kinda cool to see this band grow more and more and to continue this musical journey that we’ve been on for 10 years! Let’s make this thing heavy!!!”
A Fall 2011 release is expected through Nuclear Blast Records for the untitled new album. It is the follow-up to 2008’s Silhouettes.

States Hennephof: “It is a mid-tempo song, with some tricky rhythms that I tried to explain as clear as possible. Tune in for some heavy mathematical riffage that will break your strings!”
