TESTAMENT and HUNTRESS to Support LAMB OF GOD / KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for North American Tour

July 17th, 2013
Testament

Testament

Long-time friends LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have joined forces for what will undoubtedly be one of the essential “can’t miss” tours of the fall of 2013.  The tour launches October 22 in Toronto and canvases much of the U.S and Canada.  The two bands are a dominant live pairing, and will combine for 28 North American shows in total.  Support for all shows except Los Angeles will be provided by thrash legends Testament, with Huntress opening all shows.

LAMB OF GOD will end the North American portion of the Resolution record cycle with this tour.  It will include a coast to coast visit to all major Canadian cities which will be LAMB OF GOD’s first visit to Canada on this cycle other than a festival play in June in Montebello and a show in Toronto in January 2012.  In the last year, both Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament have been certified gold in Canada.  LAMB OF GOD will finish the Resolution cycle completely with a visit to Europe and South Africa in January 2014. Details on that tour will be released late August.  Read the rest of this entry »

HELLFEST 2013

July 17th, 2013

Hellfest Festival 2013

@ Clisson, France

21st- 23rd June 2013

Review by Kirsty Birkett-Stubbs
Photography by Tess Donohoe  Hellfest

It may be some people’s epitome of hell, Michael Buble fans I’m looking at you, but for the metal/rock community Hellfest’s towering gateway looks positively pearly. This year’s line-up is so jam-packed that I was looking for the little glass jars and labels. You’d make a fortune if you could bottle any number of the diverse scope of bands on the bill, with the riffs left in natch, but I’d like them to play their sets first.

Once inside that gateway the layout is much the same as last year, and that isn’t meant in a well-they-clearly-couldn’t-be-arsed sense, because Hellfest could teach most others a thing or 20 on how to put together a fan-friendly festival. Except when it comes to the number of toilets on site that is.

Whilst the Hellfest tree still dominates in its stark simplicity, the hidden beer gardens have gained a snazzy gateway of their own, which invites you into the woodlands. Instead of a fairytale monster at the end of the path though, you’ll find a winebar, which is win-win really. And at night the scrap-metal merch stands and bars still glow with their own rooftop fires.

Stage-wise we’ve got Main Stage 1 and 2, which continue their staggered times so that as one plays, the other sets up, and vice versa. The result is no waiting around for soundchecks or bands to start, just back-to-back bam-bam-bam metal. A similar set-up is in place at the Altar and the Temple, where you can find black metal, death metal and the like, then there’s the Valley which is home to the stoner and doom types, and the Warzone where the punk and hardcore drops.

Hellfest 2013 – it’s like being welcomed home.

TESTAMENT: Chuck Billy Honored by California State Assembly

June 8th, 2013
Chuck

Chuck Billy – Testament

Assembly member Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) honored Chuck Billy, an Antioch resident and the vocalist for Bay Area thrash metal legends TESTAMENT, on the State Assembly floor for the positive influence he has made in the Native American community and on the general public.

On January 14, 2013, Chuck Billy earned the distinction as the first Native American entertainer to be permanently featured in the memorabilia display at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chuck was also among those recognized in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian’s exhibit, Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture.

“The world of music is inhabited by creative and talented individuals whose work enhances the quality of life for all who are fortunate enough to have entered their sphere of influence,” said Jim Frazier. “Not only does Chuck Billy embody all of these admirable qualities, he also personifies the strength and enduring spirit of Native Americans.”

Chuck Billy, a descendent of the Pomo Native Americans, was born in Oakland and spent much of his youth on the Hopland Indian Reservation north of San Francisco. He is best known as the vocalist for TESTAMENT, where he plays several songs including “Trail of Tears”, “Allegiance”, and “Native Blood”, in honor of his ancestral lineage.

TESTAMENT to Film Huntington, NY Show for DVD/CD Release

February 13th, 2013
Testament

Testament

Bay Area thrash metal legends, TESTAMENT, will record their show at The Paramount in Huntington, NY this Friday February the 15th for an upcoming DVD/CD release! The band is calling on their fans attending this event to make this the craziest TESTAMENT show ever caught on camera! If you’re in the area or willing to make the trek, be sure you purchase your tickets here: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/00004978C63792FB in order to secure your moment in thrash metal history.

“We haven’t shot a live DVD or CD since our Live in London release and we’ve had two killer albums since then,” commented TESTAMENT’s towering and 100% correct vocalist Chuck Billy. “We thought it would be cool to put out a live DVD/CD focusing on the last three records (The Gathering, The Formation of Damnation and Dark Roots of Earth) mixed in with a good amount of classics too. Last time we recorded anything live in America was for Live at the Fillmore on the West Coast. This time we thought we’d give the East Coast a chance to show the world how crazy and loud they can be. We’re going to be playing an extra-long 17 – 18 song set, which will be our lengthiest set of the tour. Let’s see all you thrashers stirring it up out there and singing along! See ya!”

This special DVD/CD release is expected later this year via Nuclear Blast Records.

TESTAMENT are currently headlining the thrash tour of the year with fellow thrash titans OVERKILL and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM.

TESTAMENT @ KoKo, Camden

December 11th, 2012

Testament, Malefice and Xerath

@ KoKo, Camden London

30th November 2012

Review by Rhiannon Marley

Photography by Michelle Murphy

Hailed as ‘arguably one of the most popular American thrash groups of all time’, seasoned fireball Testament have plenty of hell-raising on their hands.

After the release of tenth studio album ‘Dark Roots of Earth’, they’re hitting the capital with a vengeance tonight – the first time I’ll have witnessed them since they annihilated Bloodstock Open Air back in August!

London fans have been waiting in anticipation for weeks, and judging by ticket-holders shivering in masses outside, it looks set to be a veteran guest-list: Kreator tees, thrash cuts and thinning barnets confirming Testament’s unwavering fan-base who, you can bet your life, queued with as much fervour in ’89 as they do in 2012.
