Here comes a review of this years edition of Getaway Rock Festival in Gavle Sweden. The festival was jammed with good music like In Flames, Nashville Pussy, Deep Purple, Behemoth, Testament, System Of A Down, Lamb Of God and Iced Earth. The festival was packed with good people that didn’t seem to mind the constant rain during the first day of the festival. Unfortunately, couldn’t we be there all three days because of a broken camera caused by too much rain and moisture but read about Friday at the festival down below.Read the rest of this entry »

TUSKA AFTERPARTY FEAT. MARKY RAMONE’S BLITZKRIEG REVIEW BY CHRISTER USENIUS
The Tuska Open Air Festival is definitely a real metal festival institution amongst all other metal festivals in Europe. This current area, Suvilahti, almost located in the heart of Helsinki, only a few kilometers away from the downtown, is the new home for Tuska for the second time. Suvilahti is more like an industrial environment with burning and hot asphalt underfoot. Tuska faced a serious battle to pull the audience as another festival named Rock The Beach was arranged on the same weekend in the Helsinki area. The line-up of that festival mostly pulled the normal radio friendly audience whereas the die-hard metal freaks arrived at the Tuska Open Air Festival. Tuska however managed to pull about 25.000 visitors during the weekend. That was pretty good as the line-up did look good, not that tempting to pull a mainstream audience.
Nightwish and Testament, and of course the legendary Danish King Diamond were headliners, but of course a few cult metal bands like Bolt Thrower, Lama, had to be witnessed. The festival was an nice success although the event wasn’t sold out. Metal-Rules.com was present to check out a lot of bands and enjoy the metal in different forms.

For the fourth year in a row, it is once again time for this years edition of Copenhell Festival. The festival is the largest metal/hardrock festival in Denmark and located in the outskirts of Copenhagen. The organizers, Live Nation Denmark, had outdone themselves this year and booked more bands than ever. They had also branched out music-wise and this year was not only dedicated to the more extreme forms of metal but also to traditional metal. The bands that performed included: In Flames, Ghost, Accept, Sabaton, Testament, and the Danish metal legend King Diamond who’s show closed the festival at Saturday night. Read about the great festival below. Read the rest of this entry »

Gene “The Atomic Clock” Hoglan needs no introduction as every metalhead has to have at least an album or two that he has played on. The man is currently sitting behind the drum kit for Testament who recently visited the Tuska Open Air festival in Helsinki. We managed to meet the legend before the show and then we sat and listened when Gene Hoglan spoke. Read the rest of this entry »
Long-time friends LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have joined forces for what will undoubtedly be one of the essential “can’t miss” tours of the fall of 2013. The tour launches October 22 in Toronto and canvases much of the U.S and Canada. The two bands are a dominant live pairing, and will combine for 28 North American shows in total. Support for all shows except Los Angeles will be provided by thrash legends Testament, with Huntress opening all shows.
LAMB OF GOD will end the North American portion of the Resolution record cycle with this tour. It will include a coast to coast visit to all major Canadian cities which will be LAMB OF GOD’s first visit to Canada on this cycle other than a festival play in June in Montebello and a show in Toronto in January 2012. In the last year, both Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament have been certified gold in Canada. LAMB OF GOD will finish the Resolution cycle completely with a visit to Europe and South Africa in January 2014. Details on that tour will be released late August. Read the rest of this entry »

It may be some people’s epitome of hell, Michael Buble fans I’m looking at you, but for the metal/rock community Hellfest’s towering gateway looks positively pearly. This year’s line-up is so jam-packed that I was looking for the little glass jars and labels. You’d make a fortune if you could bottle any number of the diverse scope of bands on the bill, with the riffs left in natch, but I’d like them to play their sets first.
Once inside that gateway the layout is much the same as last year, and that isn’t meant in a well-they-clearly-couldn’t-be-arsed sense, because Hellfest could teach most others a thing or 20 on how to put together a fan-friendly festival. Except when it comes to the number of toilets on site that is.
Whilst the Hellfest tree still dominates in its stark simplicity, the hidden beer gardens have gained a snazzy gateway of their own, which invites you into the woodlands. Instead of a fairytale monster at the end of the path though, you’ll find a winebar, which is win-win really. And at night the scrap-metal merch stands and bars still glow with their own rooftop fires.
Stage-wise we’ve got Main Stage 1 and 2, which continue their staggered times so that as one plays, the other sets up, and vice versa. The result is no waiting around for soundchecks or bands to start, just back-to-back bam-bam-bam metal. A similar set-up is in place at the Altar and the Temple, where you can find black metal, death metal and the like, then there’s the Valley which is home to the stoner and doom types, and the Warzone where the punk and hardcore drops.
Assembly member Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) honored Chuck Billy, an Antioch resident and the vocalist for Bay Area thrash metal legends TESTAMENT, on the State Assembly floor for the positive influence he has made in the Native American community and on the general public.
On January 14, 2013, Chuck Billy earned the distinction as the first Native American entertainer to be permanently featured in the memorabilia display at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chuck was also among those recognized in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian’s exhibit, Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture.
“The world of music is inhabited by creative and talented individuals whose work enhances the quality of life for all who are fortunate enough to have entered their sphere of influence,” said Jim Frazier. “Not only does Chuck Billy embody all of these admirable qualities, he also personifies the strength and enduring spirit of Native Americans.”
Chuck Billy, a descendent of the Pomo Native Americans, was born in Oakland and spent much of his youth on the Hopland Indian Reservation north of San Francisco. He is best known as the vocalist for TESTAMENT, where he plays several songs including “Trail of Tears”, “Allegiance”, and “Native Blood”, in honor of his ancestral lineage.
