with Helheim and Black Crucixion
The 26th of April
Nosturi Helsinki Finland
Taake visited the Steelfest Open Air festival last summer and unleashed their diabolical Norwegian black metal under the bright light of day. That environment didn’t create much of an evil atmosphere as Taake’s grim black metal required. Taake is celebrating their 20th anniversary and have been crisscrossing Europe and landed to have a gig in Helsinki with Helheim and Finland’s own Black Crucifixion as supporters.

The Finnish summer is a full of all kinds of festivals. Metal music has massive support amongst the Finnish festival audience. It is no surprise that a new festival is established when another vanishes. Steelfest is basically a new metal festival on the map even though the fest has been around for a while now. The organization of Steelfest used to run the fest as a private event for close friends and invited them to enjoy the metal madness. Until now Steelfest was expanded and doors were opened to the larger public. The location for the festival was tremendous when taking a glance at the location in general and above all the festival area. There were two stages where all the bands terrorized and unleashed hell on earth. The moving between these stages was easy and smooth. The past few years have seen Norwegian-based TAAKE busier than ever before with numerous tours around the world and increased productivity. With their fifth studio offering, Noregs Vaapen, TAAKE have refined their respected black metal sound, expanding this time around to include new elements. The album is filled with Hoest’s trademark riffs, melodies and vocals, but also embraces the unpredictable — more black ‘n’ roll grooves, ice-cold mellotrons and Southern-inspired banjo. It is without a doubt TAAKE’s most diverse and unique recording to date.
Noregs Vaapen was produced by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (Dead to this World, The Batallion, Helheim, Vulture Industries, etc.) and features guest appearances by Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone), Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Demonaz (Immortal). View the cover art HERE.
Formed in 1993, TAAKE have built a loyal fanbase and an even more curious press profile. The controversial episodes of band leader Hoest have resulted in several incarcerations. The band’s previous album, simply titled Taake, was released in the U.S. via Century Media.
Noregs Vaapen Track Listing:
1. Fra Vadested Til Vaandesmed
4. Du Ville Ville Vestland
7. Dei Vil Alltid Klaga Og Kyta
Noregs Vaapen will be released in North American via Candlelight Records on November 1, 2011.
