With Slayer and Megadeth previously announced, the addition of Anthrax to the line-up means that three quarters of “the big 4” of thrash metal are confirmed to visit Sölvesborg this summer! Anthrax, who have not played Sweden Rock since 2005, are returning with their classic vocalist Joey Belladonna behind the microphone and have a brand new album out in late February.
Original Accept vocalist Udo Dirkschneider has been fronting his own band U.D.O. since the late 80’s. About a decade after his last reunion stint with Accept, he is bidding his final farewell to his old bands catalogue with a tour under the name Dirkschneider, where he and his new band are performing Accept songs exclusively. After this tour, Udo has vowed never ever to sing an Accept song again, so this may be the last chance for his Swedish fans to hear him sing classics like “Balls to the wall”, “Fast as a shark” and “Metal heart”.
One of the greatest female icons in rock, Lita Ford, has also been confirmed for the festival. She had her breakthrough with legendary The Runaways before launching a long and successful solo career which has produced the big hit (and Ozzy Osbourne duet) “Close My Eyes Forever”, among many other songs. We can expect Lita to be eager to prove herself this summer: her last visit to Sweden Rock, in 2009, did not quite turn out as planned since her second guitarist was unable to come with the band to Europe due to passport problems.
Here are all 10 acts announced today:
Imperial State Electric
The Kentucky Headhunters
The Eric Bell Trio
57 out of a total of 82 acts are hereby announced. More information about all artists performing at this summer’s festival can be found at www.swedenrock.com as well as information about tickets!
Sweden Rock 2015
REVIEW AND PHOTOS BY ARTO LEHTINEN, MARKO SYRJALA AND PATRICK CLEMENT
The Finnish Metal-Rules.com commando team made their annual road trip to Sweden Rock. Metal-Rules.com has covered Sweden Rock since 2001. The 2015 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Over 70 bands offered one hell of an experience for the attendees during the four day festival. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past ten years always being sold out. This year wasn’t an exception as the fest was sold out despite the lousy economic situation worldwide. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather was tremendous, despite being quite windy and cold on the opening day. But we were there for bands, not for having some beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!

We are happy to announce another seven acts for this summer’s Sweden Rock Festival.
Ace Frehley is best known as the original solo guitarist in Kiss. These days, his focus is on his solo career and his latest album “Space Invader” (2014) marked his first Swedish album chart entry as a solo artist. On June 6th he will be back at the Sweden Rock Festival!
Legendary guitarist Slash, whose latest album “World on fire” went to #1 in the Swedish charts a few weeks ago, will perform at Sweden Rock for the first time next summer. And naturally, he is bringing vocalist extraordinaire Myles Kennedy (also in Alter Bridge) and his cohorts in The Conspirators. Expect the best Slash songs along with classics by both Guns n’ Roses and Velvet Revolver in the setlist!
Dokken was one of the big bands of the 80s, with an influential blend of classic hard rock and melodies á la what some refer to as hair metal. The band has not played Sweden Rock since 2001, so it’s about time they return. Notably, singer Don Dokken, drummer Mick Brown and demon guitarist Jon Levin are joined by the celebrated singer Mark Boals, known for his singing with Yngwie Malmsteen and Royal Hunt among others… as the bands bassist!
Hardcore Superstar from Gothenburg have been one of Sweden’s most popular hard rock bands for years. Their latest Sweden Rock appearance was marred by heavy rain and although most of their audience persisted, they are well worth a new shot.
In 1998, a new band featuring members from Katatonia, Opeth and Edge Of Sanity was formed in Stockholm. They took the name Bloodbath and quickly became connoiseurs’ faves, and all but mythical since they hardly ever performed live. Earlier this year, their fourth album “Grand Morbid Funeral”, featuring new vocalist Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost) was released and their Sweden Rock appearance will be their only in Sweden this summer.
Pat Travers is a Canadian hard rock legend. He made his debut in 1976 and instantly established his style: fundamentally blues based hard rock spiced with unorthodox rhythms and unabashed pop melodies. On his later works, blues is the predominant influence, with the characteristic Travers guitar sound fully noticeable.
Swiss outfit Eluveitie is one of the most successful folk metal bands today. Their sound mixes melodic death metal (Gothenburg style) with Celtic folk music, featuring traditional instruments like bagpipe, violin and miscellaneous flutes and pipes. In 2015 they make their SRF debut, and their only Swedish performance next summer.
Refuge is in fact the reunited 1988-1994 line-up of German heavy/power metal icons Rage: Peavy Wagner (vocals/bas), Manni Schmidt (guitar, ex-Grave Digger) and Chris Eftimiadis (drums). The trio reunites to perform songs exclusively from what some consider the best period in the history of Rage, and albums like “Perfect man”, “Secrets in a weird world”, “Trapped” and “Missing link”. The name Refuge is used since the current version of Rage, front man Peavy’s day job, remains active.
Thin Lizzy leader Phil Lynott (RIP) called keyboardist Darren Wharton the band’s most talented member ever. Since 1985, the same Darren Wharton fronts Dare – originally a melodic hard rock band which has gradually turned towards a more ethereal and Celtic sound. Next spring will see the release of the eighth Dare studio album, shortly before them returning to Sweden Rock.
Dan Hylander earned his place in Swedish rock history as the leader of Raj Montana band. When the group was disbanded in 1984, Dan Hylander continued as a solo artist and producer for artists like Totta Näslund and Tomas Ledin. In 2011 he made a comeback album and next year he makes his Sweden Rock debut – a suitably rocking setlist has been promised.
Yesterday we also announced Swedish band Egonaut for the Nemis Stage!
Longer biographies on all the bands, other information and tickets can be found at www.swedenrock.com.
The Sweden Rock Festival is held in Sölvesborg on June 3rd-6th 2015. Tickets are available.

Hell yeah! It’s time to enter the mighty Swedenrock Festival. A fantastic and the most enjoyable rock and metal festival on earth. It has to be pointed out that Metal Rules has covered Sweden Rock since 2001! Therefore, it is quite logical to cover the festival again. The 2014 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Approximately 80 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past decade as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t an exception as the fest was sold out despite a lousy economic situation worldwide. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article on several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather was both rainy and sunny during these four days. The Metal-Rules.com team was there to witness the bands, not for some kinda beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!

Rumours about this have run rampant the last few days, but now it is finally 100% confirmed: one of the biggest hard rock bands ever, and without question the most influential one, has been confirmed for Sweden Rock Festival – Black Sabbath!
Few are the subgenres of hard rock that don’t derive from Black Sabbath. The Birmingham behemoths changed the map of hard music for ever. Tony Iommi’s detuned, ultra-heavy riffs, Geezer Butler’s distorted, pulsating basslines, Bill Ward’s explosive drumming, Ozzy Osbourne’s unique, wailing vocals… The combination was totally unprecedented. In 1970-78 this lineup released eight albums, filled with dark and at times controversial classics. “Black sabbath”, “Paranoid”, “Iron man”, “Children of the grave” and many more.
After the original band broke up, Black Sabbath still kept creating stellar music, fronted by such legendary singers as Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes and Tony Martin. Still, the fans were obviously excited beyond belief when the classic line-up eventually reunited. And finally, in 2013, their comeback album “13” was released. The success actually surpassed everybody’s expectations – and at this point in time, we announce Black Sabbath as one of the main attractions of SRF 2014. Which will also be the only Swedish appearance that year for Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and drummer Tommy Clufetos.
Sweden Rock Festival will be held in Sölvesborg, southern Sweden, June 4-7 2014. Among the other acts announced so far are Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, W.A.S.P, Emperor, Magnum, Uriah Heep, Arch Enemy, Transatlantic and Monster Magnet. In total, 84 bands will be performing on 5 stages over 4 days.
Tickets and more info can be found at www.swedenrock.com.
Y&Ts first concert in Sweden, at SRF 2003, remains one of the most lauded in the festival’s history. So what could be more appropriate than Y&T coming to SRF 2014 as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations? It was in 1974 that the band was formed by, among others, singer/guitarist Dave Meniketti. Their original monicker Yesterday & Today was abbreviated before the release of their third album “Earthshaker” (1981). This was in turn a milestone in hard rock, combining power and melody in equal measures. Efforts like “Black tiger” (1982), “Mean streak” (1983) and “In rock we trust” (1984) confirmed the band’s stature. In the 90s Y&T folded twice, and returned permanently in 2001. Sadly, bassist Phil Kennemore succumbed to cancer in 2011, but Dave Meniketti and cohorts found the strength to move on even after this devastating blow.

“Welcome to the show” – welcomed by KISS when headlining the second day of the Sweden Rock fest. Well, once again the Finnish Metal-Rules.com team made their annual roadtrip to Sweden Rock. Let Me Hear You Scream Sweden Rockkkk.Well the annual roadtrip to Swedenrock by the Finnish Metal Rules.com team is already into it’s 11th year! The 2011 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock in the line-up. Over 70 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for the attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past ten years as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t any exception as the fest was sold out despite the lousy economic situation worldwide and the ticket price had risen a little bit. ver these 11 years of coverage, it has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather once again showed positive and negative aspects like in 2010. It either rained or was windy with a little sunshine. But we were there for bands, not for having some beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Enjoy or die!!!
