This is a review of the third edition of Getaway Rock Festival that was held in Gavle, Sweden during three hot days in July. The festival has a new organizer – the German FKP Skorpio – and we were eager to see how the festival was planned this year. We got to see some exclusive Swedish performances by Suicidal Tendencies, Nightwish, Venom, Manowar, Ministry and Yngwie Malmsteen to mention a few. Other acts that performed were Mustasch, Saxon, Finntroll, Satyricon, Behemoth, Devin Townsend Project and Ghost. Read more about the festival down below.

Fresh off a near ten year hiatus, crossover thrash legends Suicidal Tendencies have returned to the forefront with a string of recent releases with the excellent "No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family" a collection of re-recorded ST classics and No Mercy covers as well as the long awaited DVD release  "Live at the Olympic Auditorium". On this afternoon in Austin, Texas the Suicidal family is gathered to headline an eclectic bill at this year’s "Fun Fun Fun Fest". SUICIDAL TENDENCIES Forced To Postpone Remaining Tour Dates

November 16th, 2010

In a collective statement from crossover kings SUICIDAL TENDENCIES: “Sunday Night ST played NYC to 2000 old and newschool Cycos! It’s always great to hit the East Coast and catch up with a lot of our friends, bands and family. Unfortunately the NYC show will be the last show of this tour. Sadly, one of the band members had a parent pass away suddenly and needed to fly home to be with his family in this difficult time and handle all the funeral arrangements, etc. With heavy hearts, the band decided it would be best to postpone the remaining ST shows and make them up sometime next year. We appreciate your understanding, your thoughts and your prayers. Please give us a few days and we will try and let those who already have tickets how how to get refunds, etc. Again, we are so sorry to have to postpone these shows, but hope that everyone will be able to understand, and we’ll do our best to make the dates up.”

The postponed dates include:
11/17/2010 Metro – Chicago, IL
11/18/2010 Cabooze – Minneapolis, MN
11/20/2010 Summit – Denver, CO
11/21/2010 Sunshine Theatre – Albuquerque, NM

Jimmy DeGrasso – Alice Cooper, Hail!, F5, ex- Megadeth, Y&T, Suicidal Tendencies

January 20th, 2010
Jimmy DeGrasso

JIMMY DeGRASSO

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES  BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

TRANSCRIPTION BY PETTERI LIMNELL, EVILG AND RICK

American born drummer Jimmy DeGrasso is probably best known for his work with Megadeth, but he’s also been involved with many other interesting bands and projects during his long career.  In mid 80′s, after moving from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, Jimmy first did studio sessions with the “Prince of Darkness” himself, Ozzy Osbourne, before getting his first permanent job from Californian rockers Y & T in 1986. After many successful years with them, Jimmy decided to leave Y & T in 1990 and in the subsequent years he toured with such names as Lita Ford and Alice in Chains before joining the thrash/punk/hardcore crossover  group Suicidal Tendencies in 2004. Unfortunately, the band broke up soon later and next Jimmy joined Alice Cooper’s touring band. He’s been working with Alice on and off since then. In 1998 he joined Megadeth and stayed with them until the band (temporarily) disbanded in 2002. Today Jimmy is a highly sought after session and touring drummer.  He’s also a full time member of all-star band “HAIL!” along with his former Megadeth bandmate David Ellefsson, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser, and vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens. Jimmy has also another band with Ellefsson called F5 and they released the album THE RECKONING in 2008.  In  December (2009) Jimmy came to Finland with Alice Cooper and then I had a chance to sit down with him and discuss his past, present and near future plans. READ ON!

Tuska Open Air 2009

TUSKA 2009

by Arto Lehtinen

As everyone who was there still recalls, last year’s Tuska was an outstanding and brilliant event in several ways. Several great headliners literally crowned the event last year when Morbid Angel and Slayer unleashed and utter maelstrom resulting in a ballistic reaction amongst the audience. Besides the younger generation was absolutely thrilled about having an opportunity to witness Killswitch Engage. Topping the previous year is always a complex task for any organization of any festival. Obviously the Tuska organization may have faced a problem to top the previous events as the 2009 line-up didn’t look that tempting and convicting on paper. However, there were true highlights and and long awaited names in the line-up. It felt somehow that  these bands didn’t bring the metallic pleasure enough for the crowd. As with much recent news items, the global economic depression is a factor that impacts these large metal festivals and secondly it has to be pointed out that several mainstream rock festivals have been eager to book metal bands to the line-up, at least here in Finland. It is kind of weird to see, for example, Testament playing at a mainstream rock festival, whereas Tuska is supposed to be a metal festival even a few Japanese hara-kiri j-rock pokemon rock combos were there and of course Volbeat.

The audience have obviously realized the low offering of the Tuska festival because of any single day was not sold out. According to sources, some 9000 metalheads visited the area every day. Apparently that number is a little bit exaggerated. This year’s Tuska article is a little bit different compared to other years. There are a few clear points as some of bands didn’t present a metal approach that much, especially the Japanese ones, and one Danish band. Here is the shorter review of the fest to see and feel what Tuska offered this year.

Suicidal Tendencies / Inspector Cluzo / Virus – Electric Ballroom, London

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES

with INSPECTOR CLUZO and VIRUS

suicidaltendencies1.jpg

All live pics and review by HannTu

When you think of crossover thrash, you either think of Agnostic Front or Suicidal Tendencies. These guys were doing it way before the current crop of Municipal Waste or what-have-you, and they did it with an undeniable and unbridled sense of cool. Suicidal Tendencies have been around longer than most, but they haven’t lost the fireball energy at their live shows, and the thought of Mike Muir and co. grabbing London by the balls filled most thrashers with joy. On the very same night, the Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards were being held in the O2, but the Electric Ballroom in Camden was still packed to the brim for the arrival of the Cyco crew.
