From the opening choral refrains of “Yahweh” to the signature vocal scream at the end of “King Of Kings,” it is apparent that Stryper is back with their heaviest and most inspired work to date that is scheduled for release on October 16th via Frontiers Music SRL. Fallen is available for pre-order via digital retailers and can be ordered via iTunes at http://radi.al/StryperFalleniTunes and via AmazonMP3 at http://radi.al/StryperFallenAmazon It is also available in various physical configurations at www.stryper.com/fallen Fallen was produced by Michael Sweet.
“Fallen is about Lucifer before he became Satan. It’s the story of how he got kicked out of Heaven. He tried to overthrow God and take over,” describes Michael Sweet. “The song talks about how beautiful he was. When he walked, there was music. He was the angel of worship and this incredibly powerful and beautiful being.”
The latest song comes on the heels of the album teaser track, “Yahweh,” that was released last month and has been listened to over 135K times since it went live. “Yahweh” was a musical writing collaboration between Michael Sweet and Sevendust’s Clint Lowery. Tracks like “Pride,” “Big Screen Lies” and “Til I Get What I Need” show that Stryper is back and better than ever. Stryper offer their unique interpretation of the Black Sabbath classic “After Forever.” The band flexes their softer side on the instantly memorable “All Over Again” which continues the journey Stryper fans began almost 30 years ago when “Honestly” was released to mainstream success.
The track listing for Fallen is:

6) Love You Like I Do
7) All Over Again
8) After Forever

Looking back over the past 25 years, STRYPER is considered to be a groundbreaking act on all accounts. They are one of the first Christian rock bands to achieve unprecedented success in the mainstream. Their 1986 album To Hell With The Devil is listed among CCM’s “100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music” and the band’s popular power ballad “Honestly” became a Billboard Top 20 hit and reached number 1 on MTV. Let Me Hear You Scream Sweden Rockkkk.Well the annual roadtrip to Swedenrock by the Finnish Metal Rules.com team is already into it’s 11th year! The 2011 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock in the line-up. Over 70 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for the attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past ten years as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t any exception as the fest was sold out despite the lousy economic situation worldwide and the ticket price had risen a little bit. ver these 11 years of coverage, it has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather once again showed positive and negative aspects like in 2010. It either rained or was windy with a little sunshine. But we were there for bands, not for having some beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Enjoy or die!!!
The yellow and black attack otherwise known as Stryper has been dishing out and delivering their distinct brand of hard rocking Christian metal for going on thirty years now. With the release of the band’s latest studio effort "The Covering" the band showcases the secular hard rock and heavy metal music they grew up with, paying tribute to their peers from metal’s heyday in the eighties with faithful interpretations of songs by the likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne and so on. Taking a quick time out on the band’s tour bus, longtime Stryper lead guitarist Oz Fox took the time to fill us in on the band’s new album, as well as a trip or two down memory lane.
Christian rockers Stryper are offering fans a head-banging view of who their influences were early on, with the arrival of an almost entire album’s worth of cover songs titled ‘The Covering’. Set for release on February 15th via Big3 Records, the album includes twelve rocking covers, as well as the all-new original tune, “God”. And most significantly, the album marks the return of original bassist Tim Gaines back into the Stryper fold, setting up the first Stryper release in years to feature the definitive line-up of Michael Sweet (vocals/guitar), Oz Fox (guitar), Tim Gaines (bass), and Robert Sweet (drums).
According to Michael Sweet, the impetus for putting out a mostly covers set was a simple one. “Every Stryper album is pretty serious and pretty bold in the lyrical faith sense of the word. We just wanted to roll our sleeves up, cut loose, and have some fun.” And when it came time to pick out a listing of tunes to cover, all the band had to do was look back upon their club days. “Growing up, before Stryper was even Stryper, we were a cover band. We played Gazzarri’s on the Strip for years – we would do originals but also do covers, as well. We always did Priest covers and Maiden covers, all those bands we grew up on and who influenced us.”
What fans get is a CD that runs the gamut from 1970’s era classic rock (Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”, Deep Purple’s “Highway Star”, Kiss’ “Shout It Out Loud” etc.) to 1980’s era heavy metal (Black Sabbath’s “Heaven and Hell”, the Scorpions’ “Blackout”, “Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper” etc.). “A few things we set out to do on this album was to stay true to the original – we didn’t want to disrespect the original versions,” explains Michael. “I’m never going to sound like Bruce Dickinson or Ronnie James Dio, nor would I ever try to. And having me sing the song puts our own spin on it. We just all did our own thing and with our own touches and feel – Robert, Tim, Oz, and myself – it has that Stryper feel to it as well.”
Big3 Records Chairman Bill Edwards adds, “We are excited to allow Stryper the creative freedom to do what they do best, and take this album to the next level. We are very excited about working with the band and helping make ‘The Covering’ a widespread success.”
To support ‘The Covering’, Stryper is planning a tour that begins in March, and when it comes to the set list, it will contain quite a few surprises for longtime fans. “We’re probably going to pull out four Stryper songs that haven’t been played in the set in years. And then we’re probably going to do four covers. We’ve also got a whole slew of other Stryper songs that we’ve been playing for a long time. So we probably have 20 songs in the set.” Stryper fans rejoice, more anthemic metal will soon be on the way!
‘THE COVERING’ TRACKLIST:

The titans of Christian metal! In the 80s, California’s Stryper ranked among the greatest in melodic metal. Albums like “To Hell With the Devil” (1986) sold millions of copies and songs like “Free”, “Honestly” and “Always There For You” became smash hits on MTV. Consequently, many of Stryper’s fellow Christians claim that the band were not “true” believers. This frustrated the quartet, who gradually switched styles and eventually dissolved. However, history redeemed Stryper’s legacy, and the band reunited permanently in 2003. Their music and lyrics are once more reminiscent of the golden age, and currently Stryper’s third album since the reunion, the cover release “The Covering”, is pending release. Many have yearned for the band to come to SRF, and now they finally will – in their classic original line-up featuring brothers Michael and Robert Sweet (vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Oz Fox (guitar) and Tim Gaines (bass).
Confirmed bands so far out of a total of around 70:
Judas Priest –
last show ever in Sweden
Whitesnake – with very special guests
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Rhapsody of Fire
Jason & the Scorchers
Dan Reed Band

Christian hard rockers Stryper returned to Finland after three year break. Although Christian metal bands are not too much headlines in Finland, Stryper seems to enjoy great success here. This Saturday evening show was completely sold out months ago. This was their last show on their 25’th Anniversary tour here in Europe and was their first time here with the original Stryper lineup: Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet, Oz Fox and returning bassist Tim Gaines.
Stryper is a Christian metal/hard rock band from California, USA. The band was formed in around 1983 when bassist Timothy Gaines and guitarist Oz Fox joined their forced with for Roxx Regime members Robert and Michael Sweet. Stryper became the pioneers in the mainstream popularization of Christian rock/metal music. Stryper enjoyed great success during the mid/late 80’s. Their most successful album was TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL which went platinum in 1986. The band also got two gold record for their albums SOLDIERS UNDER COMMAND and IN GOD WE TRUST. Unfortunately the band started to lose its popularity in the early 90’s. The band’s final release was AGAINST THE LAW which was released in 1990. At that point the band tried to drastically change their image and lyrical message. The sound was heavier and gone was their trademark, the yellow and black clothing and big hair. The band really tried to get rid of their old glam image but although critics liked the band’s new style their old fan base claimed that they were not being true to their roots and the album sold poorly. Michael Sweet left the group in 1992 and decided to concentrate on his solo career. The rest of the guys decided to carry on without him but it wasn’t long until the band split up.
During the following years Tim and Oz formed the band Sin Dizzy, Michael released several solo albums and Robert played in many bands including Blissed who released album in 2002. In 1999 Michael joined Sin Dizzy on stage in Puerto Rico and they performed a number of old Stryper classics. It was his first performance with Oz and Tim since his departure in 1992. The next year, the first Stryper Expo was held in New Jersey and there, for the first time in eight years, the whole original Stryper performed together on stage. The band did some more gigs every now and then and in 2003 they were asked by Hollywood Records to write some new music for the upcoming 7: THE BEST OF STRYPER compilation. A full tour followed and on next year band released its first live album 7 WEEKS: LIVE IN AMERICA.
Timothy Gaines departed in late 2004 and he was soon replaced by Tracy Ferrie who had earlier played in Michael’s solo band. The band started to record a new album and as a result they released REBORN in August of 2005. The CD was the groups heaviest to date and it received a positive response both from fans and critics. In 2006, after two years of production, the band finally released its first DVD: GREATEST HITS LIVE which was filmed in 2004 in Puerto Rico. The group started to work on the follow up for REBORN in 2006 and since then the album’s release has been delayed for many reasons but it should finally see the light of day in the summer of 2008. Last November I managed to sit down with the whole band in Turku before their sold out show in Turkuhalli and here is the latest from the Stryper camp, enjoy!
