Death To All But Metal – Steel Panther rocks the Sunset Strip

Review by Metalette
I love hair metal, and I’m not afraid to say it. My love for it goes back to discovering Mӧtley Crϋe at 13 years old, and delving into the whole world of the 80s glam scene as a result. It was pure rock’n’roll fun, and I got my best friends into it, and we ran around like little hair-metal chickies and thumbed our noses at all the kids listening to Panic! At the Disco. So I consider hair metal to be my metal “roots”, if you will, because it steered me on the path of good music at an impressionable age. Now, the only thing that makes me happier than seeing guys in kilts and war-paint onstage is seeing a stage full of guys with giant hair and shiny spandex pants. I’m even the proud owner of the “American Hair Metal encyclopedia”, which will always have a cherished space on my decorative bookshelf. Read the rest of this entry »
STEEL PANTHER’s Spreading The Disease tour came to a close on the final day of the third annual Rocklahoma concert festival May 26th in Pryor, OK.
It was the first bus tour in the United States for Steel Panther and 88 Miles West were invited to sit in the back of the bus for a chat with Stix Zadinia (drums) and Lexxi Foxx (bass) to talk numerous things such as Lexxi’s ability to communicate with birds and makeup tips, while Stix puts on a show and offerssome driving advice. Plus, there’s a scoop on the new record.
American glam metal parody band Steel Panther returned to Finland just six months after the previous visit. Although there’s no new album to promote on this round it seems that there’s still plenty of demand for these glam heroes. Last March, the Panthers played in front of 700 people in the sold out Club Nosturi and now there were about 1000 pairs of eyes packed into The Circus in Helsinki.
ALICE COOPER drummer Glen Sobel (whose other credits include Vivian Campbell, SIXX: A.M., BEAUTIFUL CREATURES and Paul Gilbert) sat in with STEEL PANTHER Monday night to play VAN HALEN’s “Hot For Teacher” at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA. Footage has been postage at this location:
This was Sobel’s first live appearance since being forced to take a temporary leave of absence from the ALICE COOPER summer tour due to a persistent neck injury. He is expected back with the Cooper band this Fall. Also joining STEEL PANTHER on stage during “Hot For Teacher” were Lance Turner and Joe Lester of famed VAN HALEN tribute band the ATOMIC PUNKS which STEEL PANTHER’s Russ Parrish and Ralph Saenz were long time members of.
As promised, episode #1 from the new STEEL PANTHER web series is online, with new webisodes due to be posted every Friday. Check it out below.
In other news, the band has issued the following update: “Unfortunately the show at Hellraiser in Leipzig on June 12th has been canceled due to logistical difficulties related to the venue change. Hopefully you’ll be able to rock with The Panther at one of our other dates in Germany.”
Steel Panther’s complete tour schedule is available at this location.
Written in the annals of history, carved into the primordial genetic makeup of modern music and stuffed into skin tight trousers is the greatest heavy metal band in the world. The year, 1985, Hollywood California, four high school friends come together and create a band in order to get drunk, get high and most importantly get laid.
Emerging triumphantly from sunset strip, the infamous cess pit of sordid rock and roll decadence Steel Panther was born!
Steel Panther from Los Angeles, are well known for their humorous lyrics as well as their exaggerated on-stage personas that parody and exaggerate the 80’s glam metal lifestyle. The band was formed in 2000 and the debut album FEEL THE STEEL came out in 2009. The sophomore release BALLS OUT followed in 2011. By their own words, Steel Panther are “the hottest band out of Hollywood since Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses and Poison ruled the Sunset Strip” and it does seem that fans of those bands in Finland have accepted Steel Panther as their show here sold out within just few days.
Los Angeles’ glam metal jokesters Steel Panther have learned to celebrate the holidays in their own rockin’ style, which includes –- what else? — call girls and golden showers. So, naturally, they’ve melded the two in an x-rated version of the yuletide classic “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” which the quartet sang a cappella before a recent gig in New Jersey. Check it out in the video below and on FUSE!
STEEL PANTHER have unveiled the artwork for their new album, Balls Out. Check it out below:
Steel Panther - Balls Out
The release of Balls Out has been pushed back to October 31st in the UK, and(November 1st in North America. “We aren’t happy about the extra two week wait, but the move was out of our control,” says the band. “Look at it this way – now you have more reason to whip your balls out on Halloween! Chicks are always out on Halloween seeking that perfect set of testicals to place on their face! Now you have a legitimate reason to make that happen! And if you’re feeling really ballsy, come celebrate the release and Halloween at the House of Blues Sunset with the Panther!”
“Damn the record companies! We tried everything to cheer Lexxi up; hookers, blow, new spandex… even a fresh can of AquaNet, but Balls Out getting pushed back to Oct. 31st was too much.”

In a May 2011 interview with Guitar International, Satchel stated about the recording process for “Balls Out”, “We’ve been recording since last August and we’ve been tracking five songs at a time so we focus intently on a few songs rather than all 15 at once. We’re just finishing up the last five now and they all sound amazing. I would say that out of the 15 songs we’ve recorded, there are at least 10 or 12 No. 1 singles in there.”
When asked what lessons STEEL PANTHER learned from its 2009 debut,“Feel The Steel”, that he and his bandmates applied to this new album,Satchel said, “It’s funny because we haven’t learned any lessons from our first record. We don’t even think of it as our sophomore album, we think of it as our second debut release. Many bands will try to make a different-sounding record for their second release, but we couldn’t really get any better than our first record. Our first record was awesome, so we decided to go in and make the same record for our second album, just better. We didn’t really grow as writers. We didn’t grow as musicians. In fact, I think I got a little bit worse . . . But because of that it’s much better. It’s kind of like a fine wine. If you let it sit there and let it get moldy, that’s what they do with wine, right? Then you let the mold fester in the bottom of the bottle, that’s what our music is like on this record. We’re like a moldy cheese that’s been left out in the sun all summer. You wouldn’t think that it would taste good at the end of the summer, but surprisingly, it does. That’s us in a nutshell.”
Featuring vocalist Michael Starr (real name Ralph Saenz; ex-L.A. GUNS), guitarist Satchel (real name Russ Parrish; ex-FIGHT), drummerStix Zadinia, bassist Lexxi Foxxx, and Satchel, STEEL PANTHER(formerly known as METAL SKOOL) is a parody heavy metal band from Los Angeles, known for its profane and humorous lyrics. The group’s over-the-top live performances have attracted celebrities and fans alike, and in February 2009 the band succeeded in becoming one of the most popular cover bands in California, winning the contest of “Best Tribute Band in the Universe.”
Sauna Open Air (Etelä Puisto, Tampere, Finland, 10. – 12.06/10)

Sauna Open Air is pretty much the kick-off for the ”Festival Season” here in Finland and the first metal festival of the summer. This year, according to the organizers, there was a total audience of 23.000, with just the first day (Thursday) sold out. There was a feeling that this year’s SOA wasn’t a big hit among the fans. You could see already that from the last two days, which seemed kinda empty. Maybe it was because of the old money issue for the fans or maybe they weren’t that much interested in seeing some bands that seem to play quite often in SOA or other festivals.
