Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA have uploaded the fifth video installment of a series featuring behind-the-scenes footage from their recent South American tour. Watch the video clip here or below:
SONATA ARCTICA’s February 27, 2011 concert in Milan, Italy will be filmed for the band’s second live DVD, to be released in late 2011. According to a recent statement, “[SONATA ARCTICA] will perform a pretty unique show of at least 120 minutes. Next to songs of their latest albums, The Days Of Grays and Unia, they also will perform some of the older songs from previous albums plus some very rare songs they didn’t play live during the last years. For sure this will be an unforgettable event and a journey from the beginning of their career as one of the most popular Finnish metal bands until now — you definitely shouldn’t miss it.
“The DVD will be released through Nuclear Blast Records and Marquee Inc. in Japan and will, next to the show in Milan, contain another show, recorded 2009 during the SONATA ARCTICA Open Air Festival in their hometown Kemi, Finland. And of course, there will be massive bonus material such as the ‘making-of,’ interviews, and plenty of video footage the band recorded the last few years during their career on tour.”

SONATA ARCTICA’s lead vocalist Tony Kakko shares the background on the band’s dedicated YouTube channel:
“The idea for this channel came about when I caught myself shooting a lot of video with my mobile phone on this latest Latin-American tour. As there was a lot of time to kill on the hotel rooms and airports, I figured trying to edit these bits and see what I can come up with. At least it might be something our families might enjoy to watch. I have to admit I am way lazy when it comes to compiling all the thousand of photos I´ve taken on tours and showing them, explaining where I´m at, what´s that and who or what are these… half the time I CAN’T EVEN REMEMBER! So obviously the other function would be to serve as my ‘spare memory’ for the years to come. Anyhow, the band and crew seemed to approve and enjoyed the humor, so I just kept on bugging them all with my ‘camera.’ As a result I now have [material] for 6 to 8 15minute episodes: The first season of SONATA’s television series of our great adventures all over the world.
“The quality is what it is, as my equipment is what it is, and my skills in editing are what they are. None of it is very professional, but besides the point, I think that: We want to offer you all, including our families, friends and relatives, a glimpse of what the life on the road is. Everyone is welcome to see what happens on stage, as a member of the audience… but the behind-the-scenes world, it´s something else. I sure wish I could have my personal fast forward-button sometimes (something you will see on this documentary)… Waiting in many forms, but also some precious, glorious moments you would happily slow down and watch frame by frame, again and again and again. We travel the world, see and visit places and often wish we could share it all with our loved ones. Well, this is one way of doing just that. In a goofy kinda way. And now we want to give you all the same opportunity.
Once again tens of thousands of lunatic metal freaks travelled from all over the world to the small German village located in the middle of the beautiful northern German countryside. The small peaceful Wacken literally goes upside down when nearly 80.000 conquer the village during one weekend in a year. Wacken Open Air celebrated its 19th birthday from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August, whose biggest headliner ever in the history of Wacken was Iron Maiden. Despite Iron Maiden being the biggest name on the bill, however there were tons of other interesting and fascinating names.
Brat: The mass convergence of catholic youth in Sydney for World Youth Day the week Ray and I left brought a smile to my face and a feeling of warmth as I realised it wouldn’t be long until I was part of a similar pilgrimage but to Hamburg Germany and with two major differences—where Sydney was awash with colourful youth, Hamburg would be invaded by a swarm of black; and the trolley suitcases carrying clothing would instead be trolleys full of beer; songs of the gospel would be replaced by metal anthems. They came to worship at the cross—we to worship at the flaming longhorn but we all would display our nations’ flags proudly.
Tickets for W:O:A 2008 sold phenomenally fast. The special edition X-mas pack with extra goodie bag sold out before I could take a long breath after my 2007 trip. By February the official festival ticket seller was “SOLD OUT”. Suddenly the ebay market was flooded with tickets with one ticket reaching a record price of 800 British Pounds—obscene. Even in July with less than 1 month before the festival, there was an average of 5 new listings a day for tickets, which nullified all “SOLD OUT” credibility. (Brat)
