THE CIRCUS, HELSINKI
It’s been a long time since Finland has been treated with such a great package tour as this. Therefore, it is a bit strange that although this show was originally supposed to be in the Old Ice Hall of Helsinki, at the last minute, it was moved to a smaller venue. However, the night with four bands and Kreator as headliner was a successful event. The Circus has a capacity of 1200 people and the show was totally sold out. Metal-Rules.com attended the gig to witness Soilwork, Sepultura and the mighty Kreator in action.

The gig tonight comes with the unfortunate timing of being a weekday event. So before even being in Camden there was a hope from this punter and a few on the train, that it would be packed out enough to really get a mosh pit going. There needn’t have been that worry as outside the venue was an impressive queue all boasting a buzz about holding the tickets for the night in their summer sweat palms, coupled with a big smile when the doors finally opened!
SOILWORK Welcomes New Bassist Markus Wibom, Formerly of HEARTS ALIVE New Album “The Ride Majestic” Out August 28, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records
Touring in the US and EU this Year – Performing at Bangalore Open Air 2016
Sweden-based melodic death metal experts SOILWORK will release their forthcoming 10th studio album, The Ride Majestic, worldwide on August 28, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records. The Ride Majestic will be available in various formats (CD, Vinyl, TS/CD Bundle) – pre-order your copy here: http://nblast.de/SOILWORKMajesticNB
As of this new album cycle, SOILWORK is joined by new bassist Markus Wibom, formerly of Helsingborg hardcore groupHearts Alive. Wibom replaces longtime band member Ola Flink, who has amicably left the group to focus on other endeavors. Wibom has been a personal friend of the band for many years and has previously toured with SOILWORK as a guitar tech and lighting designer. Wibom made his live debut with SOILWORK in Stockholm on April 30th.
SOILWORK vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid states, “We all sooner or later come to a crossroad in our lives, when our focus of being fueled by the past, is just as strong as our visions of the future and we have to make that incredibly hard decision. Where do I go now? Flink will forever be a symbol for SOILWORK and of all we were and still are about. That being said, we all could sense that he eventually would come to the above mentioned crossroad. He understandably and respectfully chose to step down.
Sweden-based melodic death metal experts SOILWORK have announced details regarding their forthcoming 10th studio album, The Ride Majestic. The new album will hit stores worldwide on August 28, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records. The Ride Majestic was recorded by David Castillo at Studio Gröndal, and was produced and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street. The cover art was illustrated by Róbert Borbás (Grinddesign / www.theartofgrinddesign.com).
SOILWORK vocalist Björn Speed Strid comments, “We just put the final touches on our new album, The Ride Majestic, and all we can say is that it’s going to be massive. It definitely picks up where we left off with The Living Infinite, but slightly darker, atmospheric and almost anthemic, with some really interesting twists and turns. Can’t wait to play this epic beast live! Await The Ride Majestic ladies n’ gents!”
In celebration of The Ride Majestic’s impending release, SOILWORK have released a live video of their hit song “Let This River Flow” featuring Nightwish/Revamp singer Floor Jansen, which comes off SOILWORK’s most recent DVD/Blu Ray output, Live In The Heart Of Helsinki!

“Dirk Blasts,” the new series of premium online instructional videos by SOILWORK drummer Dirk Verbeuren, has been launched to offer drum students “all the best tools and tricks to build your drumming skills and further your career as a musician.”
“Throughout my tours and drum clinics, I frequently get asked about playing faster, building stamina, creating dynamic grooves and making a living as a musician,” states Verbeuren. “So I decided to put together these ‘Dirk Blasts’ for all my fellow drum maniacs out there. If you’re looking to improve your technique and independence, pick up some cool chops along the way, and gain useful insight about being a professional drummer, these two monthly lessons are for you. It’s such an exciting adventure and I’m really pumped to kick it off this July!”

Next time London decide they want to bulldoze one of our beloved music venues perhaps they could invite the wrecking crew, aka Overkill, along. At least then we’d be guaranteed one more good time before ‘progress’ steps in. Cause after more than 30 years Overkill know about good times, and crucially with them progress isn’t a frightening word. Because in Overkill’s case it doesn’t mean destroying the existing but keeping building on those foundations. Maybe it’s because they’re not British. Take note London.
with Jeff Loomis
& Blackguard, Bonded by Blood, Hatchet
March 30,2013 – The Republik – Calgary, Canada
Review and Photos by Monika Deviat
Just after the release of their ninth album The Living Infinite [Nuclear Blast, 2013], Soilwork began the North American leg of “The Inifinite World Tour”. Joining the swedes as main support was progressive shred master Jeff Loomis. Adding some variety to bill were thrashers Hatchet, Bonded by Blood and death metallers Blackguard. On March 30th, 2013 the tour stopped at the Republik in Calgary, Alta., and a sizable line of fans eagerly awaited the show start.
Hatchet from San Francisco, CA kicked off the show early to a good-sized crowd. The band showed their roots with a Bay Area thrash sound. Their short set was energetic and seemed well received by the hard core thrashers in the crowd, but it wasn’t anything innovative.
Bonded by Blood, the second California thrash act of the night, kept a thrashing frenzy going from their first tune, “I Can’t Hear You”. The charismatic band worked the crowd very well , even getting a small mosh pit going.
Montreal’s Blackguard played a powerful set, creating a full and atmospheric sound. In their short set they gave the audience a taste of their upcoming album in among their older work. Vocalist Paul Ablaze is a gregarious frontman and he was singing into people faces and grabbing their heads, inciting more energy. Blackguard’s axemen shredded furiously and joining them on this tour was the Agonist’s bassist Chris Kells. Justine Ethier was a whirlwind of sticks and hair as she laid into her kit.
When Jeff Loomis took the stage a very enthusiastic multitude of fans had crowded up to the stage and welcomed him with cheers and raised horns. The instrumental set contained only a little banter and some thank you’s from Loomis. The forty-five minute set was all about show casing that stellar vibrato technique and speed that is impressively precise. The set was comprised of songs from Plains of Oblivion [Century Media, 2012] and Zero Order Phase [Century Media, 2008] and the crowd loved hearing the technicality live. Everyone was captivated for the entire set.
Soikwork kicked off their set with “This Momentary Bliss” from their newest release The Living Infinite. They followed up right away with an older track, “Like the Average Stalker” and continued to assault the crowd with an hour and half worth of material. With the newest offering being a double album, Soilwork had a lot of songs to choose from for their live set. They included songs like “Spectrum of Eternity” and “Long Live the Misanthrope” among older favorites like “Nerve” and “Possessing the Angles”.
Bjorn “Speed” Strid’s vocals were spot on as he strode around the stage and leaned out into the crowd. Guitarist Sylvain Coudret shredded alongside David Andersson and both of the axe wielders got right up to crowd. Some technical issues had Coudret out for a few minutes but were resolved soon after and he got right back into the energy. Bassist Ola Flink… Dirk Verbeuren demonstrated his technique and speed behind the drum kick alongside Sven Karlsson’s ambient keyboards. A two song encore of “Late for the Kill” and “Stabbing the Drama” made for a strong ending to the evening.
