“The Unholy Alliance” tour stormed Finnish shores on November 12th and 13th 2006. It featured 5 popular metal acts in the same package: Thine Eyes Bleed, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, In Flames - and of course the headliners of the whole tour, no less than the true Thrash kings from Los Angeles… Slayer. Last time the same tour hit European soil in 2004, having such highly popular American metal bands as Mastadon and Slipknot booked on the tour line-up.

With such a variation of metal bands both from today and yesterday, it was the kind of tour that appeals to many generations of metal fans. For the younger metal loving generation, bands like Children of Bodom and In Flames surely gave a good run for their money – and for the old fucks (ha!) like me, Slayer was basically the only good reason that dragged my lazy ass to witness this happening that took place at the Ice Hall in Helsinki on a snow storming Sunday evening, on the 12th of November´06.

Before the show got started at the Icehall of Helsinki, I managed to meet and talk briefly to Jeff Hanneman from Slayer in their tour bus for about 20-minutes about the band´s ongoing tour, the band´s warmly welcomed new album CHRIST ILLUSION, Jeff´s collection of Nazi-medals, censorship problems of the new Slayer album in India, and naturally we couldn´t avoid talking a bit about the past times either.

It was actually very nice to meet Jeff as normally it´s been both Kerry and Tom who have worked as spokeman for Slayer in the interviews. Jeff turned out to be a really nice, mellow and funny guy, as this interview with him proves this fact so well…

Sauna Open Air Metal Festival, Tampere, Finland, 9th-11th of June 2005

July 31st, 2005

Intro/outro by Luxi ?got-some-tan? Lahtinen

Relentless commentary, bullshitting, teeth-gnashing, headaches, photographing, documenting of all kinds, etc. by Luxi ?show-no-fucking-mercy? Lahtinen & Niko ?metal-up-yer-fucking-ass? Karppinen

Sauna Open Air Metal -festival was held for the 2nd time in its entire history ? and this year the organizers of the festival had succeeded to book 3 internationally big names for the festival to headline each of the 3 days; Slayer, Megadeth and Dio; not to forget the Swedish Pain either as the fourth international band for the festival. Last year was a real success for the festival organizers already, bringing approx. 6000 metal fans to the venue for one day to enjoy such bands as Lordi, Finntroll, Children of Bodom, Thunderstone, etc. ? and of course the festival?s biggest name Nightwish.

This year nearly 7000 Metal fans gathered together with each of the 3 days being nearly sold-out or completely sold-out. So from an attendance point of view there?s undoubtedly going to be a continuation of this festival for the next year at leas and that?s what all Metal fans hope for, that?s for sure.

Kerry King of SLAYER

October 29th, 2004

Interview with Kerry King of SLAYER

Interview & live pictures by Luxi Lahtinen

Slayer last visited Finland in 2002 on their ”Tattoo the Planet” tour. That tour suffered from the cancellations of both Pantera and Static-X due to the WTC/Pentagon tragedy. Luckily the Slayer guys stated that they didn´t allow terrorists to disrupt their lives, and they tour was eventually made with Cradle of Filth, Amorphis, and In Flames filling Pantera´s and Static-X´s empty spots for the dates in both Sweden and Finland.

On “The Unholy Alliance” tour, Slayer brought Mastodon and Slipknot with them to Helsinki Icehall on 17th of October ´04 and Slayer proved to be in a very good live shape just like they have always been (hey, we are talking about Slayer here, so what more you can really expect from them!).

A few hours before Slayer hit the stage, I met Kerry King at Helsinki´s most expensive hotel, Hotel Kämp, and went through an interesting conversation about the on-going tour naturally, the band´s forth-coming album, Slayer –fans, Kerry´s own K.F.K. Industries (I guess it´s not hard to guess what the letters K.F.K. stands for, heh!), Kerry´s favorite hard drinks, the state of Metal scene nowadays, etc. – amongst many other cool things were talked through between me and him as well.

Now just keep on reading what Kerry had to say about all these things more accurately…
