JAGERMEISTER ANNOUNCES FALL MUSIC TOURFEATURING SLAYER AND MEGADETH WITH SPECIAL GUEST ANTHRAX
LOS ANGELES, CA – August 17, 2010 — Jagermeister, the brand known for decades of involvement with rock and metals bands, continues to own the concert circuit with the announcement of the 2010 Fall Jagermeister Music Tour, North America’s biggest thrash tour in 20 years with the 1991 original “Clash of the Titans” lineup – Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. The brand’s 17th Music Tour will bring three of the hardest hitting metal bands in the world to one stage and will feature complete performances of Slayer’s much lauded Seasons In The Abyss album from 1990, Megadeth’s landmark 1990 album Rust In Peace, and the return of Anthrax’s singer Joey Belladonna. The tour kicks off September 24 and will play 20 venues across the nation.
“I’ve been working with Jagermeister since 2004 to try to make the first Jagermeister Music Tour Trifecta happen,” said guitarist Kerry King of Slayer. “I always have such a killer time on the Jagermeister Music Tour, and this time we’re coming through with Megadeth and Anthrax so you know everyone will be on the top of their game for these shows.” Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine adds, “It is a rush to finally be a part of the Jagermeister Music Tour!”
“Slayer has been a long time friend and supporter of the brand,” says Bill Henderson, Senior Vice President Marketing and Advertising at Sidney Frank Importing Company, Inc. “Jagermeister has been sponsoring them since 2001 and named them as headliner of both the 2003 and 2004 Fall Music Tours. It is great to work with them again and know that adding Megadeth and Anthrax to the program will make this a tour to remember.”
In the beginning, when there were no blueprints, no set paths, no boundaries or steps to follow, SLAYER assaulted the world with its new hybrid of metal and punk. Heavier, faster and darker than the rest, Slayer – guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo – set the new standard that all others continue to follow. And that has continued through to 2010. Revolver, SPIN and Metal Hammer have all named Slayer “Best Live Band.” Esquire presented them with an Esky Award. They’ve got two Grammys, a Kerrang! Hall of Fame Award and multiple Revolver Readers’ Poll Awards. For this fall’s Jagermeister Music Tour, Slayer’s Tom Araya promises “no ballads, no acoustic numbers, no slow tempos.”
For the past two decades, Megadeth’s storied career, including more than 20-million worldwide sales and eight Grammy nods, has not only set standards in hard rock and metal, but defined them. Megadeth’s signature shredding and rousing lyrics have drawn fans in since the band’s beginnings, and are the very things that keep them interested, excited, and of course, head-banging, at every turn. Founding vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine, a NY Times best selling author who was the recipient of the first annual Golden God Award at the inaugural Revolver Golden God Awards in 2009, is renowned for his ability to use the vehicle of music to shake things up, to make a point and to rattle your brain, literally, figuratively and sonically, which he did with 2009’s ENDGAME, which received some of the highest critical accolades of the band’s already impressive career. The band’s fourth album, Rust In Peace, saw the band cement their status as one of the most important metal bands with masterpieces like “Hanger 18” and “Holy Wars…The Punishment Due.”
With worldwide sales in excess of 10-million, Anthrax, who along with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth, is credited with originating the thrash genre, is about to celebrate its 29th year as a band, and continues to be one of metal’s all-time great acts. Over the band’s career, Anthrax has received multiple Gold and Platinum albums, multiple Grammy nominations, and a host of other accolades from the press, industry and fans. Earlier this year, Anthrax announced that vocalist Joey Belladonna, an essential part of Anthrax’s lineup from 1985 to 1992, was rejoining the band, and has taken his place onstage this summer as Anthrax has joined Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth – The Big Four founding members of Thrash – as co-headliners of a series of Sonisphere Festivals in seven European cities. Plans are for the “classic era” Anthrax to write and record a new album for a 2011 release.
The Jagermeister Fall Music Tour will feature Jagermeister custom prizes from tour sponsors Schecter Guitars and Peavey Electronics. “Slayer defines speed metal and these albums define Slayer. Listen at your own risk.”
— Rick Rubin
LOS ANGELES, CA (Monday, August 16, 2010) — For the first time in its near 30-year history, Slayer, the single most distinctive and radical thrash metal band ever, will see its ten American Recordings albums released as a limited-edition, high-end box set – The Vinyl Conflict (American Recordings/Sony Legacy). Ten albums on 11 discs, The Vinyl Conflict will feature the band’s entire Def/American Recordings catalogue: Reign in Blood (1986), South of Heaveneasons (1988), Seasons In The Abyss (1990), the double-record Live Decade of Aggression (1991), Divine Intervention (1994), Undisputed Attitude (1998), God Hates Us All (2001), Christ Illusion (2006), and World Painted Blood (2009). The Vinyl Conflict will be released on October 12, 2010; check Slayer’s website (www[dot]slayer[dot]net) or Amazon[dot]com for pricing.
“Most longtime Slayer fans may not have these records at this point,” said American Recordings’ Dino Paredes, “or their copies are completely beat-up, so to have the complete catalogue in this first-class presentation is terrific. For the newer fans, this is their opportunity to really get into this band the way that they could have if they were born 20 years earlier.”
American/Sony Legacy invested a great amount of care into making The Vinyl Conflict, treating the albums the way they would treat a great jazz, classical, Bob Dylan or Miles Davis record, something that isn’t normally done for metal records. All ten albums have been re-mastered from the original analog flat master tapes and were pressed on the highest quality, 180-gram audiophile vinyl at RTI, the most respected pressing plant in the U.S. and among the best in the world. Lacquers were cut and re-cut several times to ensure the highest sound quality. The individual vinyl discs will come in a standard, clear inner sleeve to preserve the vinyl, are then housed in high-quality litho-wrapped jackets, and then boxed in a hardcover slipcase. Additionally, reproductions of the original LP inner sleeve artwork were converted to 12X12 inserts.
“The vinyl box is a real treat for fans, especially with today’s renewed and increased interest in vinyl,” added Sony Legacy’s Adam Farber. “It’s been years and years since the Slayer vinyl has been in print – only the two most recent albums are currently available on vinyl, the rest have been out of print for years and very hard to find. These albums sound spectacular – they sound like you’ve never heard them before.”
“Everything about ‘The Vinyl Conflict’ – the look of it, the feel of it – it’s very strong, very powerful, very Slayer,” added Paredes, “from the music to the dripping, bloody pentagram on the front of the box. It’s perfect.”
The Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot wrote that Slayer is “one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.” Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer – guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo – bring to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer. The band has received numerous nominations and awards, including four Grammy nods and two wins.
Currently, Slayer is co-headlining the first leg of the American Carnage Tour with Megadeth that kicked off August 11 and goes through September 4. In addition, the band’s three classic in-concert DVDs – Live Intrusion, War at the Warfield, and Still Reigning, will be released August 17, separately and as a limited-edition, 3-pak box set.
Slayer and Megadeth co-headline the 19-city “American Carnage” tour that kicks off tonight in Glens Falls, NY. Three classic Slayer in-concert DVDs – “Live Intrusion,” “War at the Warfield,” and “Still Reigning,” will be released separately and as a box-set next week, on August 17.
X Japan made its U.S. concert debut at Lollapalooza this past Sunday, and an ABC “World News with Diana Sawyer” crew was there to record the historic event. The Chicago Sun-Times called the band’s performance “a spectacular, almost operatic performance of big ballads and speed metal.” Time Out Chicago’s review thanked Lollapalooza’s co-founder Perry Farrell for booking “the coup of the festival,” and USA Today wrote, “The metal-pop-punk was fast and furious,” describing the drumming of band leader Yoshiki as “Keith Moon on Red Bull.”

Originally scheduled for November 2009, then moved to February 2010, then again moved to July 2010, this seemed to be the concert that would never happen for many of us on the East Coast of Canada. Thanks to the rescheduling, in airline ticket change fees alone this concert cost $300! Add on top of the actual flight cost, concert ticket, hotels, meals, and a pile of metal shirts, this is one of the most expensive concerts I’ve ever been to!! Sadly none of these bands have ever played out this way before which added to the anticipation. As everyone knows, the delays were caused by Slayer’s Tom Araya and his ongoing back problems and eventual back surgery. The line-up also changed with openers Machine Head being replaced by the mighty Testament and the band Suicide Silence thankfully no longer on the bill for July. Read the rest of this entry »
THREE CLASSIC SLAYER IN-CONCERT TITLES TO BE RELEASED ON DVD
Note: A video press release can be viewed below.
LOS ANGELES, CA – THURSDAY, July 29, 2010 — The last time you went shopping for DVDs, you might have noticed an unmistakable empty space where Slayer titles should have been. The reason is simple – all of Slayer’s DVDs have been out of print. But rest easy Slayer fanatics, the wait will soon be over. On August 17, 2010, 2003’s “War at the Warfield” and 2004’s “Still Reigning” will be reissued, and, for the first time ever, 1995’s “Live Intrusion,” having been digitally remastered, will also be available on DVD. All three will be sold separately at retail and online ($13.98 each), and the Limited Edition “Slayer Live DVD 3-Pak” ($29.98), will be available exclusively on Slayer’s website, www.slayer.net
“I remember around ‘God Hates Us All,'” , said Slayer’s Kerry King, “asking when we were going to make a DVD of ‘Live Intrusion.’ So, here we are, ten years later, and it’s about time.”
Every one of the Slayer live-in-concert DVDs represents a different era of the band: “Live Intrusion” was recorded on March 12, 1995 at the Mesa Amphitheatre in Mesa, AZ, and features guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Paul Bostaph. The disc, which is certified Gold, includes some of the most classic Slayer songs such as “Raining Blood” and “War Ensemble,” but also some early special tracks like “At Dawn They Sleep” and “Captor of Sin.” As a bonus, Machine Head’s Robb Flynn and Chris Kontos join the band on-stage for a cover of Venom’s “Witching Hour.” The opening of “Live Intrusion” features a look at some of the band’s very unique fans, in particular, with special emphasis placed upon the fan from the mid-90s who had “Slayer” carved onto his forearm. In addition, the quality of “Live Intrusion” is high-end, as the original VHS master was located and used to create the DVD.
“War at the Warfield” was filmed at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, CA on December 7, 2001, and like “Live Intrusion,” features drummer Paul Bostaph, marking his last release with Slayer before original drummer, Dave Lombardo, rejoined the band. “Seasons in the Abyss,” “Mandatory Suicide,” and “Disciple” are some of the jewels on this live collection that debuted at #3 on Billboard’s DVD chart, and has since been certified Gold.
Filmed at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME on July 11, 2004, “Still Reigning” – also Gold certified and voted Best Live DVD by the readers of Revolver magazine – was directed by Dean Karr and recreates Slayer’s thrash/punk, 28-minute classic 1986 album “Reign In Blood” performed in its entirety. The end of the video features the “Wall of Blood,” with the band, their instruments, and the stage completely drenched by a downpour of 150 liters of “blood.”
“There was no dress rehearsal for the blood trick,” explained King. “It was either going to work or it wasn’t going to work, and we know it did work. It was so hard to play, I thought I was going to have to go back and overdub all of ‘Reigning Blood,’ but I listened to it and it was all there, it was just a lot more slippery with all the blood goo.”
The “Still Reigning” DVD offers bonus material including live performances of Slayer staples such as “Hell Awaits,” “Hallowed Point,” Necrophiliac,” “Spill the Blood,” and “South of Heaven.” The DVD also marked the return of drummer Dave Lombardo. “Even before the idea of ‘Still Reigning’ became a reality, I really wanted to do a video with Dave in it,” said King, “and I knew the fans wanted that as well.”
The Chicago Tribune’s long-time pop music critic Greg Kot wrote that Slayer “is one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.” Over the past near three-decades, Slayer has created some of thrash/metal’s most enduring and influential recordings – 1986’s “Reign In Blood,” 1990’s “Seasons in the Abyss,” up to the band’s latest, 2009’s “World Painted Blood.” Long-time fans will attest that nothing comes close to experiencing a Slayer show live and in the flesh; but there’s no denying how the band’s intensity and heaviness translates to these three killer DVDs.

The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax digital cinema event is distributed globally by New York-based BY Experience.
LOS ANGELES, CA – MONDAY, July 12, 2010 — Metalheads, rejoice: North America’s biggest thrash tour in 20 years is announced, as 1991’s original American “Clash of the Titans” lineup – Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – will tour together once again on Leg Two of the “American Carnage Tour.” This trek kicks off September 24 at Verizon Wireless Theatre in Dallas, TX and will play 20 dates, including New York’s Nassau Coliseum, concluding at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on October 21.
On Leg Two of American Carnage, Megadeth will continue to roar through its landmark 1990 album Rust in Peace from front to back, while Slayer will rip the roof off by performing its much-lauded Seasons in the Abyss album, which was also released in 1990. Anthrax recently welcomed back singer Joey Belladonna, who defined the band during its heyday, and now permanently back in the band, will be front-and-center.
In the spirit of beating the recession, there will be pre-sale discounts on all tickets in most markets (see below for more details), and if that’s not enough, a limited amount of $10 tickets will be available in many cities – log onto any of the bands’ websites or onto Ticketmaster’s site for those details.
But wait, there’s even more. For Leg Two of the “American Carnage Tour,” Megadeth has teamed up with iloveallaccess.com to provide fans with VIP experiences including priority venue access, meet and greets, parties, exclusive gifts and more. Logging onto www.megadeth.com will provide those details. Plus, fans who purchase their tickets online at either www.slayer.net or www.ticketmaster.com will receive a free download of the live audio track “War Ensemble,” set to be included on Slayer’s forthcoming, as yet unannounced, “Live Intrusion” DVD release.
Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will kick off the second leg of the “American Carnage Tour” on the heels of the historic “Big Four” Sonisphere Festival concerts they played with Metallica in seven European cities this summer. The dates marked the first time that these four bands – acknowledged as the most influential bands of the thrash genre – had shared a concert bill.
The original “Clash of the Titans” tour united the three forces of thrash metal for the entire summer of 1991, with then-little known Alice in Chains serving as the opener. This tour, which falls under the “American Carnage” banner, isn’t rewriting history, it’s writing a whole new chapter of head-banging history that is sure to delight fans new and old.
Megadeth and Slayer return to North America late this month to co-headline the east coast “Canadian Carnage Tour,” and then starting August 11, the first leg of the “American Carnage Tour” (dates below) with Testament as Special Guest. The tour was originally scheduled for a winter 2010 run, but was postponed when Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was forced to undergo neck surgery. But as is the case for anything good in life, this tour will be well worth the wait.
The Big 4: METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX
Austria’s Stormbringer.at webzine conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine when the band played in Vienna on July 1, 2010. Watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On whether “Big Four” tour [featuring METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX] is something special for him or if it’s just “another MEGADETH tour”:
Mustaine: “Of course it’s special. It’s historical. It’s life-changing for a lot of people that were there. And I think the bragging rights for people who actually witnessed it versus somebody who saw it on YouTube or saw it in a movie theater or is gonna see it on the DVD that’s coming up… they weren’t there. So to actually watch it was a fantastic thing. Standing up on stage where I was [during the ‘Big Four’ jam at the Sonisphere festival in Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22], being able to look next to me, on either side being flanked by so much tremendous talent, it was great. It’s just one of those things where in the moment it doesn’t seem as enormous as it really is. After the fact, you look back and you’re like… You know like when you survive a car crash, you don’t think it’s such a big deal until you watch it in slow motion, you’re thinking, ‘Oh, my god, I can’t believe I survived.’ So going up on stage was really, really amazing. Especially when I looked back and saw how everybody was embracing everyone and how I think that… If you were there, you would have heard when, through all the goodbyes and everything at the end, when James [Hetfield, METALLICA frontman] and I embraced, the whole audience went [wild], ’cause it’s what they’ve been waiting for. It’s what I think James and I both have been waiting for, too, so it’s a good thing.”
On whether the “Big Four” tour will hit the U.S.:
Mustaine: “That’s up to METALLICA and their camp, because I think it’s fairly obvious, for myself… it doesn’t need to be the ‘Big Four’ for me to wanna play with James and Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer]. I think if the ‘Big Four’ [tour in the U.S.] doesn’t happen, certainly a MEGADETH/METALLICA tour would be great — whether it’s just the two of us or if we have a support group or something like that. But yeah, I think it was really fun because of what we stand for in heavy metal. Me and James are like the ‘big daddies’ of this whole thing — we were the two guitar players that set the wheels in motion when the first tapes were made of METALLICA. I think it’s exciting now to look back and see all the millions of bands that have been created off what me and James did sitting in a room in Norwalk [California].”
According to Billboard.com, a DVD of the Sonisphere concert in Sofia, Bulgaria — which was beamed via satellite in HD to cinemas and was seen by more than 100,000 fans globally — is set to be released later this year. TV deals have also been struck for sets from Sonisphere and in Britain ITV2 will screen highlights from the U.K. festival. VH1 will show Sonisphere in the U.S.
In the U.K. it was screened in 79 cinemas. “At the Odeon in Leicester Square in London there was a mosh pit, and at the end of the show they had a stage invasion, which is just phenomenal to even think about,” says promoter Stuart Galbraith. “Not only are we hitting the territories that we’re playing with this tour, [with the cinecast] we’ve taken the ‘Big Four’ and Sonisphere into countries we haven’t been able to get to this year.”
METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX — the so-called “Big Four” of 1980s thrash metal — played together for the first time in history on June 16 in front of 81,000 fans in Warsaw, Poland.
According to Tim Cashmere from Undercover.com.au, the now-legendary Big Four show – which was held on June 22nd at Sofia, Bulgaria’s Sonisphere and featured METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX on stage for the first time – will be screened in selected cinemas across Australia from July 9. For ticketing information, head to Thebigfourlive.com and click on Australia down the bottom.
In September, a DVD/Blu-Ray package will be released showcasing the entire event including two hours of Metallica and one hour each of Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and the ‘Am I Evil?’ jam. The two-disc set will contain backstage footage and more.
Members of the Big Four, including Dave Mustaine (MEGADETH), Lars Ulrich (METALLICA), Scott Ian (ANTHRAX) and Kerry King (SLAYER), recorded a special video tribute to the late, great heavy metal singer RONNIE JAMES DIO (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) from the Sonisphere festival in Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22nd.
The video tribute was shown as part of the June 22nd (not so live and not complete set-lists were shows in all theaters BTW) satellite broadcast of the Big Four concert from Sofia to movie theaters around the world.
